I know you can buy the discounted annual pass vouchers on the dvcmember website. My question is, how long do you have to renew the vouchers? We will be going in January, but I want to make sure that we buy the vouchers before any price increase. Can I buy them now and redeem them in January or do I have to wait until we get closer?

TIA,
Amy

I think they are good forever....

We got our vouchers in the mail a couple of weeks ago. There's nothing on the voucher or the letter it's attached to that mentions an expiration date.

If you would like to call WDW Ticketing to ask, their phone number is 407-566-4985. They are open Monday - Friday 8:30AM - 4:45PM EST and Saturday 8:00AM - 4:15PM EST.

You can buy those vouchers at today's price and hold on to them for years if you want to.

We are planning for our first trip home in sept.

I am considering getting annual passes or maybe the pap for dh and I and then buying the kids MYWplus tickets

do you have to buy tickets for the whole length of your stay when you are using your DVC?
I am use to the rack rate package deals from Disney and they require the tickets for the whole length of the trip. If we go to the water parks one or 2 days, and don't go to WDW then we wouldn't need those extra tickets

trying to find an affordable alternative. We may be leaving the kids with a babysitter while we go do something alone. We have never been to a water park..not sure if we will like that. Did want to try Disney Quest once.

Just weighing options--so many choices!

Point of information: You can do that with vouchers for new AP's and still exchange them one-for-one for a paid AP years later but not for the renewal ones as the OP was interested in. AP renewals are back dated to the expiration of the previous AP no matter when you exchange the voucher. In the event you hold onto a renewal voucher for more than a year (thus making the time frame for the original renewal AP expired too), you can only apply the money you paid for it towards the purchase of a brand new AP at the then current selling price and paying the price difference. So buying and holding renewal certificates is not as fiscally desireable as holding onto the vouchers for a new AP.

Pickles, there is no requirement to purchase any tickets whatsoever when you stay on a DVC reservation. You can buy whatever you want or nothing at all.

Ok, so maybe my plan won't work. I was planning on buying the new annual pass voucher now to be used in January. We will then go again in December on those aps. The passes won't expire until January. We won't go again until December or January again. Can I not do the renewal thing? Will my renewal be back dated to when the original passes expired? Will I just have to gete new aps?

Correct

We won't go again until December (ETA: 2007) or January (ETA: 2008) again. Can I not do the renewal thing? Will my renewal be back dated to when the original passes expired?
If you do get a renewal voucher for your original AP, the AP will expire in January 2008 no matter when you actually exchange it at WDW. All AP renewals are backdated to the expiration date of the original AP. There is no way to renew and get around this.

Will I just have to gete new aps?
It would seem to be more prudent to spend the extra $15 or so and have a new AP that would be good for a whole year versus one that you saved $15 on but will only be useful to you for several weeks, if that.

It sounds like you are pretty much trying to do what we do. We purchase a new AP every other year. We go in mid to late July the first time on the AP, and again in late June-early July on the same AP. We usually throw in a spur of the moment sometime between those vacations since the "passes are paid for" :rotfl2: .

We do not renew the AP as it will not be cost efective for us. We jsut purchase a new one the next time and restart the cycle.
