DISBUG's Grand Adventures & pictures (Cont...from the SWAN/DOLPHIN FAQ thread)

Hi Everyone~

I missed a day on the boards and finally caught up on the trip boards.

Disbug~ Your trip reports are hilarious. I still haven't finished reading the s/d threads.... just popped right over here.
I loved the Burger King gold spray painted hats. Such a great treat for the kids.

Back to the s/d thread to finish up there :D

Welcome over marymrg and splashfamily! Enjoy! I only have a few more days until our sojourn is over... I'm glad you find them worth reading!

Happy Birthday Disbug!!

Once again, great pictures and great story! I am so glad you stood up and said something at The California Grill. Sounds like the food there was also fantastic! Its on the list.. I must go back and finish my list or at least put a dent in it! You have put together a lovely vacation for your extended family! :)

Debbie

Hi, Disbug--HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I also flew over here from the Swan thread. Your trip reports are inspirational! Everyone is right; you are the master of creative trip planning...and trip reporting. Love the photos, especially from the California Grill at sunset!

Can't wait for your next report! :D

FRIDAY, AUGUST 01, 2003

Well, it's moving day again and I am up early! One more load of laundry for the road! Have to be at Typhoon Lagoon by 8:30 AM so must make a move! Gather everything up and into the suitcases, call Bell Services to transfer luggage to the WL, heat a bottle up in the microwave, and we're out the door! This time valet brings around both vans since everyone is heading out together... My DH says he and DD2 will meet us at Blizzard Beach and I say "That'll be a little hard since we're going to TYPHOON LAGOON!" :p (LOL! I'm glad we had that discussion!) Some how I still manage to lose him at the first light?? At Typhoon Lagoon, I park and see him drive by. Good! I get in line and people start going through the turnstiles. DD14 does not want to swim today so I give her a few passes to the AMC 24 theatres and some lunch money and she heads for the busstop. Since (I think) DH is here and he has his ticket, I go on in.

I get to the rope drop where people are being held until the official opening time and get out my 2-way radio. "Hello, Hello! Disney Family are you here?" Wonder of wonders I get a response from sister, "Yes, we are! Where are you?" I reply "at the front rope drop" while doing a 360 degree scan of the crowd. As I turn around we both start laughing! She is about 4 feet behind me! My DB is there with my DD8 and the twins. Sister and BIL are there with DNeph13 as well! Everyone is getting towels/ lockers while waiting for the official entry time! My DB is amazed! How in the world did you get here after moving over from the BWV?? I smile and say... practice, practice, practice! ;)

The rope drops and we begin the "Typhoon Lagoon Sprint" to find the best spot to put our stuff! I have one in mind (:smooth: super secret, I won't even tell my family... and doubt if they can ever find it again without me!) It is so secret, I even make one wrong turn and have to double back! We find it and I am fixing to go back to the entrance to track down DH and DD2 when someone says, "There he goes!" After bringing him back to our spot, he tells me that was not him who was driving by in the parking lot... He apparently stopped for gas at the station and went right instead of left and ended up at Blizzard Beach. After getting directions, he found the right place and an angel on his shoulder must have guided him to where we were!

Sometime in the next hour my parents show up! (I wasn't expecting them!) DD14 had come back to their room at the WL, just as they were leaving, so they gave her a ride to Downtown Disney. My parents were very impressed with TL. Having never been to a water park before, they didn't think it was going to be anything like this... By the end of the day, they had so much fun, especially in the lazy river and at the wave pool, they are looking forward to going back!

We immediately drench ourselves in SPF45 then head off to do the slides! I have DD2 so I take her to the Lazy River. She loves this! Throughout the day we must go on it 6 or 7 times! We put her in a yellow tube that has a bottom and are able to spin her around in the water and watch her giggle and smile! I shoot myself for not bringing the camera in with me (waterproof or not!) I have brought the collapsible cooler on wheels and we have drinks and bottled water. Before too long it's lunch time so we head over to Typhoon Tillies. They have some very good sandwiches.. I get the chicken wraps with chips, bottled water and ice cream sandwich for me and DD8, while DH has the BBQ sandwich, some fries, bottled water, and choc chip cookie. (*I used 2 of the Connections Q&C vouchers for this!)

fb6b180f.jpg

After lunch, clouds look a little threatening but we decide to keep on going. The lifeguards will let us know when to get out we're sure! My DH decides to feed DD2 her bottle so I can go on a slide and I go over to the storm slides. I ride the middle one... it was a blast and not too long a line. The Family Raft line is insane. Easily 60 to 90 minutes judging from how far back the line goes. I am not in the mood for a "wedgie" so I skip the Kowabunga Humunga!

fb5a1c62.jpg

The rain never does materialize and we make an entire day at Typhoon Lagoon! YAY! By 3:30 PM we realize it's time to head back to WL to check in and get ready for Dinner at Artist's Point. After losing our luggage once on the trip... I figure, better not push my luck! DD8 stays at TL with the rest of the group who want another hour of play!

Walk into that grandiose LODGE and the music, the view, the CHILL! I think they have the thermostat set to 60 degrees! Brrrr! The great NORTHWEST! What atmosphere! We are staying here for the first time...LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! Go to Front Desk to get my room number and/or cardkey... DH should be there already with DD2 napping, hopefully. I am behind a gentleman who is obviously very impatient so I inquire as to how long he has been waiting. "10 minutes!" He huffily replies. "If the Front Desk clerks would quit acting like @#$! Travel Agents and Social Directors, maybe the line would start moving!!" Hmmmm! Okey dokey, then! Better just smile and not say anything.

Our room is everything I asked for... close to Lobby, quiet, 4th floor or higher, view of fireworks! WOW! Thank you whoever put us in room 5081... Loved it very much! Loved the theming of this hotel... ONLY complaints (and everybody who has stayed here knows them already) the bed frames stick out and you will, sometime during your stay.. bump a knee or stub a toe (we ALL did). The bed corners are SHARP! The other was that the door to the bathroom opens out, not in. Which is pretty inconvenient to the person standing at the sink right next to the door! Other than that... NO WORRIES MATE!

We're going to get "ALL CLEAN AND PRETTY" then see you for dinner at Artist's Point!

I've followed you over here to continue reading about your WONDERFUL vacation! Your trip reports are great!

Hope you have a fantastic Birthday! If I was nearby I would make YOU a crown!

Muffy

FOR THE BIRTHDAY GREETINGS, EVERYONE!

And for my crown, muffy! My Disney Fam is taking me to Outback for dinner. OOH! A Thunder from DOWN UNDER! Can't wait!

#1hockeymom! I'm glad I said something, too...Most children learn these kind of manners from their parents, but occasionally from a "Disney Parent", I guess! LOL! It's ironic that we had our own children in the Cub's Den and really did not notice anyone else having children (no one in our section did), until the Fireworks incident.

Morning, tinkohio! Thank you, too. Having a great day! Hope you do also...

Aaahhh - the Cali Grille - our fav!!! We celebrated our Anniversary dinner there on 7/26. We got the chocolate cake with raspberry with a chocolate square that said "Happy Anniversary f or the California Grille".

I usually have the delicious pork but I deviated this time. I had the steak and it was to die for! along with the cheese potatoes - YUM. DH asked if he could substitute the yellow-fin tuna for blue-fin since it was on the sushi menu - of course it was no problem for an additional nominal cost. Our waiter - Gary - from Hawaii was incredible - the best we have ever had anywhere in the World.

Happy Birthday, Disbug!! Raise a glass for me at your dinner.

Thank you for the greetings! We will have fun tonight!

I'm pushing to finish the "Grand Adventure" today... then later, if any of my Disney family send me their photos, I will post separately!

Looking forward to photo of family terrier from you...

FRIDAY, AUGUST 01, 2003 6:30 PM

We are finally at the WL with the rest of our extended family and wouldn't you know it... this is the only dinner I am late to! (Only a few minutes, but still:rolleyes: !) While we are waiting to be seated, my Sister casually mentions she brought clothes thinking we were going to "Whispering Canyon". OOPS! No one ever mentioned going to WC and since we are headed to Hoop de Doo tomorrow night, I thought it would be too similar... While WC is fun, the food we had eaten there had been unmemorable... Artists Point, from our experience, had a beautiful atmosphere and superior food.

We are seated and have 2 CM's who will be our servers, and one of them is "extremely" friendly... to the point of being too familiar at times (maybe she used to work at WC?). I think she is trying to make us have fun so we go along. The tone for the evening is set when Sister orders a Pinot Grigiot and the CM brings her a Pinot Gris. The flavor is not good for her, so they try another. And another. And another... (you're getting my drift here, aren't you? We never do find the "right" wine! So she settles for one, since she is slightly embarrassed at this point.) I have to agree with sis on this one. I tried all of the wines she brought, and did not like any of them either! Unfortunately to make it worse, the CM kept insisting she had "just the right wine" for her! I choose the "featured flight", which is 3 glasses (2-1/2 oz size) of a Riesling, a voigner, and a merlot. More on this later.

Everyone places their drink order. Followed by appetizers. We have to request bread. The entrees are ordered (I choose the signature cedar planked salmon, which is their specialty.) My SIL chooses the filet mignon, my father the trout, DH the Buffalo Steak. This meal I am sorry to say was slightly "off" for me. My mother says she enjoyed what she had and compared it to the Cali Grill in everything except atmosphere. But my salmon, was plated without me ever seeing it on the plank. The salmon was slightly under done (and I like raw meat, so I did not complain)... I had finished my entree and had to inquire about my flight of wine. It was not as enjoyable drinking the glasses back to back instead of savoring them individually with each course. I must say dessert was the exception! I had the flourless chocolate whiskey cake with pecans... superb! My father and BIL each had the cappuccino creme brulee which they pronounced was better than the Cali Grill! In retrospect, I wish I had made Dinner PS for Whispering Canyon and Dessert/ Coffee PS for Artists Point!

After dinner it is still raining and we have some time before E-ride night begins, so we decide to "check out everybody's rooms"! This is my sister's idea and it is a little silly, since all our rooms are supposed to be the same, but it is just silly enough to sound like fun (like a snipe hunt) so off we go! This IS fun and we enjoy the trek though the halls. DB and SIL have 2 rooms as far away from the lobby as possible! Mom & Dad are across the hall from them. We are near the lobby, finally Sis and BIL are on the opposite wing! The one thing we have in common is we're on the same floor!

We make the mistake of laying down for a few minutes when we go back to our rooms and I have the feeling no one is going to E-Ride night. That all changes when I hear the booms from the MK fireworks going off! I jump up go out to the balcony and SAY ... "Let's Get Over There. The fun is starting without us!" DD14 says OK. The phone rings it's DB who is checking on us. I tell him I am just strapping on my fanny pack getting ready to head out! He replies, "YOU'RE GOING IN THE RAIN??" Sure, why not. I'll bet NOAH never let a thing like that stop him! He pauses and says, "You're twisting my arm.." Not at all. Sleep if you must I'm out to ride! He laughs, "Meet me in the Lobby!" I call BIL and sis, no go for them. So we grab DNeph13, DD14 and head out. We don't think the boat is running so we head to the bus depot. (Turns out later that the boats were running both ways on E-Ride night, so keep that in mind!)

We arrive at MK, better late than never and head for Space Mountain. We all ride about 4 times. I am hysterical when we exit the ride since DB tickled me mercilously throughout our final space journey!) Over to Buzz Lightyear (what fun!) and Alien Encounter (sorry, folks this is such a SO-SO attraction... Disappointing! Looking forward to the next renovation..) We also take the time for WEDWAY people mover because our own little "people movers" are tired! DD14 and neph make a B-Line for Haunted Mansion to ride it before the end of E-Ride night...which comes much too soon! Next time we will arrive early, we vow! Back to the WL via boat. It is so spooky cool walking back to the Lodge on that long dock! We are tired, but boy did we have fun!

See everybody in the morning for EPCOT! We've got a special invitaton to ride MISSION SPACE! OOOH! CAN'T WAIT!

I'm sorry I'm late with Birthday wishes! Hope it was happy. I love your reports. Three resorts in one trip, amazing! I don't want your trip to end.

It's never too late for BD wishes! Thank you for thinking to send them!
I am pushing forward with the last of the trip report, should be ready soon!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 02, 2003

We have EPCOT on our schedule for this morning and with a scheduled arrive time of 8:30 AM we need to drive (again!) This is a real pattern with me... but I feel a little stranded if I have to wait for a bus with a crying baby!

We have a coupon from the BWV for a free one-day rental of a Pal Mickey and I go over to the gift shop to redeem it. We learn how to operate him while driving over to EPCOT.

fb6b1776.jpg

We are through the turnstiles early (YAY! This is the smart way to avoid backing up the crowd!) The rope drop is by Space Ship Earth (or the "Big Ball" as we call it!). We discuss our plan, and for the first time realize that we are the only one's who made it this early. We get a cell phone call and learn the reason why... they decided to take the bus which picked them up, then made a run over to FT. Wilderness where they had to load several handicapped people. We let them know we will keep in touch and see them inside!

We are enjoying the day so far, it's not too hot ~ slightly muggy from being overcast. All of a sudden, unexpectedly I might add since I had never seen this, a "Character Caravan" pulls up behind the rope drop chock full of characters! Captain Hook and Smee were even there! The music starts and we know it's time to boogie!

fb6b15f2.jpg

As the crowd starts moving, I know DD14, DD8, and I will become separated from DH who is strolling DD2, so I shout, "Meet us at Test Track for the Baby Swap"! Then we join the other marathoners hoofing it for Test Track. Just before getting in the Single Riders line, I ask the CM for a Child Switch Off Pass and he graciously gives me one! One thing we all noted about the single rider passes (which look just like Fast Passes, but say Single Riders) they sure looked worn and beaten up. In fact, one of ours tore in half and I had to make sure not to lose both pieces! Perhaps (IMHO) a more durable material should be used for these if they are going to be used over and over again! We zip right through and ride with the wind blowing our hair all over the place! By the time we are out, DH is in the waiting area and he goes back with the 2 girls to ride in the Fastpass line. I settle down in the passenger seat of a SAAB to feed DD2 her morning bottle... This is very relaxing and I get to do quite a bit of people watching which is always fun. After the ride we all exit Test Track and head over to MISSION SPACE!

Is there anything as great as a new ride before you have ridden it? The drama, the anticipation? I just can't wait to get over there! The CM's are being very careful to ONLY let AP passholders inside! I mean if the parents had AP's but their kids didn't? Too bad, kids! You're waiting outside! Luckily we all have them. DH rides first with DD14 and DD8 while I find a cool place to sit inside with DD2. Not too much time passes before they are back. Everyone raves! My turn! I go back in with DD8 and DD14. Looking around and trying to keep from hyperventilating. (I'd heard the stories too, you know... about feeling nauseous?) We climb into our module and I am the Commander for my first ride. We are a GO! OKAY...spoilers coming so skip to next paragraph if you "don't wanna know"! THIS RIDE IS COOL!
Never once did I feel nauseous! I thought I would scream at lift off, because that is exactly how it FELT and seemed like we were lifting off from the earth! During our mission, different crew members needed to perform different tasks such as "separating the rocket module", putting us into "hypersleep" etc... and trying to reach up and press the buttons you could feel the G-Forces trying to hold you back! AWESOME! I went on this ride 4 times! My new fave at EPCOT! OKAY SPOILERS OVER!

Back outside our 2-way radios go off and it's DB and SIL with their kids. We say to meet us in front of Test Track. Luckily I had gotten FastPasses earlier, so we give our Fastpasses to them and the rest of us jump back into the Single Rider line. We ended up riding very close together! After we're off, we get a page from sister, BIL, and DNeph13. We tell them to meet us over at Mission Space where we ride again. My parents who are not Test Trackers, let alone Mission Spacers, have headed over to The Land and on to England for Fish 'n Chips. We are headed to Norway for the buffet.

fb6b1666.jpg

*When my parents learn we have gone to Norway, my dad's fave, they turn around and say to save a place for them!

fb69e1b5.jpg

We have no real wait even without PS for lunch. Restaurant Akershaus (think of it like "Aker's house") is not open for another 5 minutes. We are among the first seated and they are able to accomodate us at two tables. One for the adults, one for the children. Perfecto! We run into some language barriers with the CM who is a Norwegian citizen. She leads us to believe that she can break the check up into 4 parts with the Disney Dining experience card (which other restaurants have done, so it is not unusual) but at the end she messes everyone's checks up and forgets to deduct 20%. It takes us about 30 minutes to finalize the bill at the end. But the food was wonderful! And the Ringes beer is a legend! Very delicious and a nice complement to their buffet! There has been a recent major change to their buffet and I really like it! When you arrive and put in your drink order, you also put in your hot entree item. (Mine was salmon, which was sheer ecstacy!) Others had porcini mushroom alfedo type of dish, and others had swedish meatballs. My dad as always, had the fish (hallibut?). Meanwhile all the cold dishes, breads, salads etc.. are up on the buffet and you can serve yourself. Very neat! This is all you can eat and the last lunch seating is at 4 PM, so for $13.95 you can have yourself a nice inexpensive early dinner if you prefer!

After lunch, DD8 is the one who really needs a nap and wanted to ride Mission Space one more time as well as Spaceship Earth. I volunteer to take both DD2 and DD8 back to the WL while everyone else enjoys EPCOT. We do make it back and ride Mission Space. I even get to shop in the gift shop... purchasing 2 or the special limited edition Mission Space AP 2003 pins! (Oh, did I not mention I am a pin collector as well??) I haven't traded any yet, since I haven't seen any I like better than those I already have! Upon exiting the ride, the wind has picked up and thunder is booming... so we make a dash for Spaceship Earth. It is so dark I give DD8 the choice to stay dry and get back or ride the ride and huddle under the "Big Ball" in the rain.. She chooses the car (Smart girl!) and we RUN! I mean I am holding my breath because I see lighting striking (not at my feet, or anything) but, I want IN the car! We make it and are inside before the fat drops break onto the windshield!

fb6b16da.jpg

Nothing better than to hear the rain drops on the roof of the WL when you're in the mood for a nap! We've got Hoop de Doo tonight and want to be wide awake for that! AAAHHH! That pillow feels so g-o-o-o-o-o-o-d! ;)

I see your DD's nametag in the pix. I feel like one of the family b/c of my name tag. ;)

I am so glad because that is how you made ME feel on the S/D thread! I wish I had thought to do the same for DreamFlight. With all of her sojourns I forgot she was going to be there as well!

Got back from BD dinner! Raised a glass of red to you (and turning 45)!

I'm re-looking at DD8 picture and realizing why her shirt looks so wrinkled. I forgot to mention that the last load of clothes I did at the BWV that morning, did not get dried. I was drying outfits that morning with the blow dryer! LOL! That was fun! (It might have looked better if I had ironed them dry!)

didn't notice the wrinkles - just saw the spiffy name tag similar to mine!

Thanks for raising that glass of red for me (but I'm a white wine person ;) ). Have a nice evening.

You, too! My SIL and younger sister both prefer white wines as well. I am an occasional white wine drinker (unless champagne, which I love!).. but red wine just appeals to me! Especially with dinner!

Good night, all! I had a GREAT Birthday!

really enjoyed your trip reports so much it made me want to be there!

my friend and I decided this morning that we are taking ourselves and my 2 kids and her 2 kids and off we go.

Tomorrow! 2 days driving in a car.
4 nites in the World!
Can't wait! Im so excited!

I can't believe Im doing this!!!!
Look for my trip reports when i get back.
Unfortunately, I did not have time in 12 hours to make little gifts like you did - it gives me something to aspire to next time!!!

Hope you don't mind me adding this on your thread! I am so excited I have to tell people who understand! (My husband and parents think I am NUTS!)

Thanks all,
Ill tell Mickey you all said HI!!

Donna

Glad you had a wonderful birthday, Disbug! *raising another glass of wine to you*

Have a wonderful trip, Donna! I think Disbug has made us all want to show up down there and pretend we're part of her family!
