HI All! This is a dress that I made Lexie this morning. I bought Minnie and Mickey fabric from Malaysia and had never used it. So today I dragged it out and cut out the Minnie and Mickey. Lexie told me what she wanted. I wanted to use some yellow, but she said no...:confused3

I had really wanted to just use the Minnie and make a pink dot skirt to match Minnie's skirt, but in light of all of the discussions...LOL that we had last weekend, I decided since someone recently used pink dot, I decided not to. Sad huh?

Could you talk her into a yellow flower on her head band like Minnie's??

Is AimeeG still here? I have tried pming her several times and never heard back...does anyone have her email? thanks!

TJ & Heather, glad to hear that Barbara has come through well so far. We've been thinking of you all.:goodvibes
...t.

Teresa you are brilliant increasing the tension on the macine works GREAT for ruffles!!!! That will save soooo much time!!!!

T-Beri-good luck with the serger. I just got a new singer serger over the weekend and I love it! I learned how to do a rolled edge hem with it today!!!
MY Big Give outfit is in the mail!!!! Yea!!!!

My goodness it is hard to keep up with all the posts

Soem of those items I hadn't thought of, but I pretty much do the same thing. I scrounch around for things. And you can not go back to lurkdom you now have to post pics so we can see what you are making.

.

I didnt say they were great, but when I find my stupid camera cord I will shutterfly some

DON'T LEAVE! You're just getting started! We need your tips! And I want to see pics of your bows, please! Please!

Thank you!!
:welcome: I don't like "lurker" either. That sounds sort of evil. I like "window shopper", too! Too funny that you made a toga! :rotfl: Do try to sew again! I gave up when I was 17 after making a truly awful outfit for my baby nephew. But, I started up again about 10 months ago and I LOVE it now!

Thank you this is such a wonderful. kind, talented generous board
Wow! These are great ideas! Now I just wish that I could make a decent bow to start out with! Somehow I just end up with hot glue all over my fingers!

I agree with the term lurking (makes me think of Lurk from the Addams Family). Window shopping is much better!
Try jewelry wire or even stitching the bows, I just hot glue the bling bling

WOW, ask and ye shall recieve!!! You can absolutely NOT go back to window shopping!!! You belong to us now.::yes::

Thanks I like to shop though but as I have read in many posts do not look at this board while dd is watching. The only saving grace is my children don't say make me that they say buy me that (they know my lack of sewing talent real well) :rotfl:

Again thanks for the warm welcome, this board is the creme de la creme (trust me there are a lot of us browsers out there)

Those are really cool!!!

Those are great ideas. My youngest DD is a tomboy but will wear a barrett if it isn't too frilly. I bet she'd love some of your ideas!

Sorry I forgot to comment, my eldest girl is the same (no princess, just Buzz, woody nothing frilly) have you tried a headband with a clip on bow. I just finished one if these I will make sure to take a photo of that

Too cute! I really like the Disney cuties stuff. It would look cute with pink dots too.

Me either...have you all seen the Fancy Nancy stuff at Target! TOO CUTE!

Jenna is staying a couple of days at my grandparents house so I will nosey on over there and see what they have. I might pick something up for her birthday which is 2 1/2 months away

GOOD MORNING LASSIES!!!
I will NEVER apologize for being a neurotic over-planner again:rotfl2: J/K. Well, no, it does make me feel a little better...I wish you the best of luck w/ your rain coat, it is a great idea. We go in Oct. and usually the traditional summer storms are over but we can still get belts of rain from tropical storm systems, and even though I preach to EVERYONE to be prepared for ANY and all kinds of weather most times of the year in FL. I still ended up at Epcot in the pouring rain completely unprepared last year so I think the rain coat is a super idea!:thumbsup2 The bonus was the park was COMPLETELY empty and we walked on to almost all the rides we went on (except Soarin', don'tcha know.)
Also good luck w/ the remainder of your pregnancy I had 2 summer babies (in FL)and am hoping to avoid being at the end of my pregnancy in the summer EVER again. For one thing to spread out the freakin' birthdays!! My mom had summer babies (june 11 and Aug 20) My sister had summer babies (July 23 and Aug 28) and mine are June 20 and July 19 So just between me and my sister and our kids we pretty well have june-aug. covered:laughing:

I am totally a neurotic-over planner!!!::yes:: I see things on here, or hear about things and I just want to do them right now! I don't like things to take long! I will read a book straight through just so I don't have to wait! I think the rain coat might work. I think I found a pattern for a long sleeved collared coat - it's a McCalls childrens, although I can't recall the #. I just hope I bought enough fabric for it. I am so used to buying for baby stuff, that I didn't even think about needing more. I guess I can always buy more later! I got childrens size 3,4 to something. Does everyone think a 3/4 will fit a 2.5 year old??
To make it more water proof I think I am going to use some kind of clear seem sealant on the seems - if there is such a thing. Any ideas?? and what kind of thread would you use on vinyl??

The pregnancy is going good so far - but I do not look forward to it getting hot. I live in the midwest, so it gets hot and humid! It's supposed to be 90 this weekend!:scared1: Oh well, there is always sewing in the air conditioning!! She's due July 17. I hadn't planned on be pregnant in the summer, but that's just how it worked out. It's a little girl. We just had another sonogram this morning to check on her. She looks good, a little small for the "age", and with a full head of hair!

Thanks!!!

So I get new desk!!! It is great..not going to be able to cut much fabric on it but I have a table for that anyway. So I get my little area set up and this morning I felt like sewing...so I did.....

I made a crayon Roll....a chalk mat.....1st attempt at crayon roll...and made one minor mistake but easily remedied on my next one.
Congrats on the new sewing set up!

What went wrong on your first crayon roll? I want to make a few and would love to hear any tips you might have.

I have the safety pins in place so I will try it on when she gets home. I just pressed the hem and it is ready to go now too. That was a quick top to make! I have one more to do in the blue Pooh Toile.
It looks super cute! I have that blue Pooh Toile that I was going to make an A-line out of.

Sorry I forgot to comment, my eldest girl is the same (no princess, just Buzz, woody nothing frilly) have you tried a headband with a clip on bow. I just finished one if these I will make sure to take a photo of that
Would love to see a photo!

I made her a headband this weekend using the free YCMT pattern that has a bow and she would only wear it with the bow in the back under her hair. She kept taking it off too. She keeps barretts in so I'll have to find something not too girly to embellish those with. She's a funny thing. She'll wear dresses but won't wear pink, flowers, or polka dots (don't know what she's got against those????). Up til about 9 months ago she always wanted a boy's haircut. Her bangs are almost grown out but she still needs something to keep the hair off her face.

I used to sew a lot 15 years or so ago and got back into it recently so that I could make her something with a more boyish fabric but still have a bit of style. I think the boyish fabrics in the A-line style with matching shorts/capris look really cute on her and she loves them. I made her 4 outfits for a trip in May with just the 2 of us and much to my surprise her favorite was a Simply Sweet top with capris. Now all 5 of us [me, DH, DD(9), DS(7) and tomboy(5)] are going to Disney in August so I have to make a few outfits for the older 2.

Need more Peasant Top help! Have you found that the elastic measurements given are too much? I have it fed thru for the neckline and around the arms and it does not look tight enough. Of course I know I will have to wait on Erin to get home to try it on. Here is what it looks like so far:

th_friendspeasant.jpg

That looks great!! I have that same blue fabric but haven't figured out what to do with them yet...I think I am going to save them for our next trip.

I do find that I have to shorten the elastic especially around the neck for my dd; otherwise it fals off her shoulders.

Good Afternoon ladies and gent! I have fun news....Yesterday on our daily Wal-Mart trip they were clearancing out furniture desks, shelves, end tables stuff like that....So lovely boyfriend decides he might want a new desk for his office/ my sewing room...So that would work out great for me as his old desk would be perfect for sewing it is an "L" shape desk....So we get new desk and I WAS going to get the leftovers. We get it home and the new desk is to short for him he's 6'9. Yeah tall!

So I get new desk!!! It is great..not going to be able to cut much fabric on it but I have a table for that anyway. So I get my little area set up and this morning I felt like sewing...so I did.....

And I would love to show you all what, I made except I have no idea where the usb cable is...heck, I don't even know what it looks like...But I will work on that today so I can show off my creations and my new sewing area...Which thank the good guy above is not a folding plastic table anymore!

Ooh I am so jealous!! I would love to have a sewing area instead of our dining room table. Can't wait to see pictures.

Jenny

Hi Jess...thanks for the information on the Disney vinyl. I will have to take a look and see if I can find some. I think making a rain coat would be a cool idea. Let me know if you find a good pattern. Oh and I think planning in advance is a GOOD thing....!!!!

Awww thank you so much for the kind words on my TR. Teresa actually just sent me a PM today asking what happened to my TR. I guess the mods moved it over to the completed TR's...even though I have one day left to write about. I have been so busy with our new baby that I never had a chance to complete it. We are praying that we will be celebrating another adoption in December and if so we are going to WDW!!! I may just have to do another TR! Thanks again...you are a sweetie!!!

I am hoping the raincoat will turn out. I got this pattern today, it may work. McCalls M4961

I just hope I got enough vinyl. If not, I'll buy a bit more, we'll see. Your daughter is young, what age? and what size? I thought I would use some sort of clear sealant on the seems. We'll see. I don't know when I will get around to it! I have things to make that she will actually wear within the next two years.:rotfl:

I am pretty sure it was your trip report that got me interested in making things for my kids for Disney - the little minnie pants and shirt your DD wore on her first day in MK! Congrats on the new little one and the upcoming adoption. Will that make 3?? I hope you get to go back to WDW. December is the best time!!

Jess

We're not entirely sure about the whole insurance situation. But, they are planning on keeping her in the hospital until tomorrow. We do know she cam through surgery well and she's in recovery right now. The mass in her breast was big, but that wasn't a surprise. They are still thinking it's stage 0 cancer, so that's good.

Stage 0 is fantastic! If you have to have cancer I mean. My Dad had stage 4 melanoma 5 years ago and he is a survivor (almost a miracle!). Cancer is so scary! Hopefully if she needs to stay longer her doctor will be persuasive and insurance will let her stay. Glad she came through it okay!

We are in the same boat! I have a 2 (she'll be three on 6/1) and a 4 (she'll be 5 on 7/26) year old daughter and my third is due on 7/9 but I'll be induced on 7/2 if the baby doesn't decide to make it's debut sooner (and mine never do!)! We have been in the 90's for the last week and a half and will continue to be until Octoboer probably! Thankfully Texas isn't as humid as the midwest (usually, although this past week has been humid). I grew up in St. Louis and I truly don't think there is anyplace hotter than St. Louis in July! Nothing like 95 degrees with 90% humidity! My babies always end up being a little on the big side so the doctor takes pity on me and induces me. The first one I was a week overdue though before I got induced. Typical for her, all in her own time :rotfl: . I have gained 24 pounds (more than I had hoped at 35 weeks) but I'm measuring about 3 cm big right now. My first was 9 lb 1 oz and my second (10 days early) was 7 lb 14 oz. We'll see with this one! Good luck!

I've just been looking at the chalk boards on YCMT - do you mind me asking how you make the board bit? I'm very tempted to get this to make as stocking filler presents for Christmas but wanted to be sure I could get the materials first!!

I think you will find the vynal (sp??) a challenge for curved edges- like the collar. You might consider doing a collar with points- OR a madarin collar would be cute. Cant wait to see.

AND if there really are a lot of people out there reading and not posting- shame on you! It's such a great community here, please, come post pictures of WHATEVER you create- be bows, clothes, crayon rolls- anything goes...really!

Okay, now why did I sit down at this laptop??? Im in the middle of packing (yes, gasp! the day before we leave) for Megan and myself and doing laundry in order to have the clean clothes to pack.
with no power most of yesterday I am waaay behind. I took a walk this morning and we have power lines down and lots of big tree damage- most snaps, breaks, and bends. Nothing looks like my "exploding tree"
I could hear someone outside mowing right up until the storm came and when it came, it didnt ease in with a few drops, then light rain, then lighting, nope it was just "snap!" and it was upon us.

anywho...back to work getting stuff done....

I'll banana with you!   How cool to have your very own sewing area! I'm still sewing on the dining room table, but hope to have a sewing room sometime within the next year or so.

Shameless plug: I updated my Trip Report!

Hi everyone...have to admit I have been not sewing today...feel sorry for me! I have been trying to get caught up on house work. I hate housework! Hate it I tell you!

H & T glad to hear your SIL came thru the surgery good. I'll pray for a good recovery.

My mom's MRI got rescheduled because her insurance had not approved it yet. I think she goes in the morning. She is going to see about some compression fractures in her spine and now possibly her feet. She is going with us to WDW. I think we will have to rent a chair for her because I really don't see how she can do all of that walking.

Back to my house:headache: and hopefully some sewing tonight.::yes::

Me either...have you all seen the Fancy Nancy stuff at Target! TOO CUTE!

I have all of the FN stuff Gracie. She will be having a Fancy Nancy party for her 3rd birthday and of course a custom is in the works!

BTW, I will tell AimeeG you are looking for her.
