If I offended anyone I apologize. If I did not like this place and the people I would not be here. I like and respect all the talented designers here. I was merely giving my opinion on a question that was posed. You don't have to like my opinion, but it was not meant to offend anyone or stir up trouble as I said before.

aimee - I totally agree that it is wrong of whoever is selling YOUR creation! I don't think the question should be whether you used Disney characters - you took the time and talent to put the file together and it is ultimately your property, so for sometone to sell it for profit (and claim it as their own) is certainly infuriating.

So now I should get something off of my chest. When I first started posting on this thread - not at the very beginning, but close - one of my custom creations was CASED and then put on ebay. I'm not sure if it actually sold, but I do admit that it kinda chapped my hide a bit. Now, keep in mind, it wasn't anything outstandingly spectacular or anything, but it was MY fabric combination and t-shirt idea. I hadn't sold anything on ebay yet, but I was thinking I might start. It almost turned me off from posting anything here, but obviously, it didn't. LOL. I've since sold only a couple of things on ebay, but now I know better than to post here first whatever I plan to list.

It's the same in almost any artistic industry. I'm also a scrapbooker and used to post a lot of my layouts on a public site, but when I became interested in being published in magazines, I kind of had to hold back what I posted because I didn't want an original page of mine to be scraplifted (CASED) and published. I actually was published a couple of times and I kind of liken that to selling on ebay - those pages were my original designs and I don't think it would be right or fair for someone to copy my design, claim it for their own, submit it to a magazine and get published. Just like someone shouldn't take an original custom outfit, copy it, say it is their design, and sell it for profit.

OTOH, if someone copies or is inspired by my scrapbooks or clothing creations, makes it FOR THEMSELVES (or child) for their own enjoyment, NOT FOR SALE OR PROFIT, then I see that as flattering and I don't mind. It's the whole copying/claiming it as your own design/selling thing that irks me.

I hope that makes sense. Just my thoughts and how I feel. Goodness knows I've been inspired by each and everyone of you and have made things similar to several, but I would only sell what was my own design. Sorry for rambling (and ranting) on.

On a lighter note, I made my Ellie Bellie a little outfit tonight - a top that I made a pattern from a Gymboree shirt - so not exactly a case, but inspired by, LOL! Hopefully, I can get her to model it tomorrow and post pics.

Glorib - agree with you 100%!! Post a pic of that cutie in your inspired (not CASEd) set!!

BTW - where's TJ been did I miss her in all the CASEing discussion?

Wow lots of posts

Just my 2cw - but I think maybe people need to remember that this is a public forum. Anyone can do a google search for disney sewing, outfits, boutiques, customs etc and it will come straight to one of these disboutiquer threads - it's how I found you gals and disboards and it's now my main source of disney planning info :)

Anyone can copy your pics you post on here and save it to their own hard-drive - you will never know. And you will probably find that the people selling on ebay aren't part of the disboards but just lurking in the background waiting to pounce :confused3 None of you ladies seem like the type to profit from others - I actually think the opposite - you are always there to help anyone who needs it. Including me .....you ladies have never met me - I live on the other side of the world - yet a couple of you have contacted me and shopped for me so I too can have disney outfits for my girls for our trip :) THANK YOU

I love this is a wee community and it sometimes feel that we are our own group. I think maybe we need to remember we aren't always on our own ;) :)

Wow! I go to work and come back to this???

Sorry for this ramble....feel free to skip over it!

I have posted quite a few things that I have made. Lots of these things were my original idea, fabric combo, or whatever. I have often heard, can I CASE this or CAB this? I usually say sure.
My Mrs. Potato Head outfit is a prime example. I think I had everyone and their cousin looking at CB to find the tshirt, just to make it. Do I mind... NO... as long as it is for you own child or family. I don't want to go browsing :wizard: one day, and see that it is up for sale, with the seller boasting that it was their own idea, when I have the original still here.
I remember a few months ago, people asking what their favorite outfit was that was posted here. I remember seeing a few of the ones that I did. I was flattered.
Have I ever CASED anything? Sure..... we all see something here, :wizard: , or even local boutiques. Do I use the EXACT same fabrics? NO! I don't think I could possible even find the exact same fabric. Lots of times I like my own fabric combo better.

The main reason that I started sewing is because my wife loved to browse :wizard: and would often get an itchy bidding finger, and I would have to work a few extra days to pay for it. I didn't mind, anything for my Princessprincess: . But I knew that I could surely make something like it without having to work 7 days straight to pay for it.

Have I ever sold a cased outfit? This answer is yes. (although I have NEVER cased anything 100 percent, I *ahem* feel like I improved the original idea with my own take on it) Did I make a profit on it..... very little. I rarely sell anything on :wizard: for this reason. I know that finding fabric, putting it all together, working HOURS on it, having my little one LOVE it, is worth more money than I will ever get.

I enjoy the Disboutique board for many reasons. The creativity, the generosity of many of you, the willingness to share your helpful hints and ideas. If it weren't for this board, I doubt that I would have even attempted my first applique. I didn't think I could EVER do it.

So again, I would like to thank all of you for your friendship, wonderful comments, and great inspiration.:grouphug:

Now get back to the regularly scheduled programming. I don't like this detour that has happened.:goodvibes

Cindee, How is your aunt doing today?

Were you able to finish your She loves me Knot bag you started on Thursday Night?

I saw your question on Friday so I wasn't able to help. I was making a She Loves me Knot bag on Thursday Night too.

Here it is. I made if for DD's Teacher as a Teacher Appreciation Gift. She loves jungle animals and jungle print.

I really want to make another one, I think it was pretty easy to follow the pattern.
DO you have a picture of yours?

I know I am kind of late jumping in here. But I have been thinking about making something for the "Big GIve".
Do you think she would like a bag for her trip?

I am thinking of making a bag out of the Minnie Dot fabric with a Mickey head applique and some yellow trim. Or I could also make one with a pretty blue Princess Fabric I have.

If you think it sounds good let me know. Also, how soon does it need to be finished by?

sigh....anyone want to offer their opinion about Simplicity 4949 pattern and it's difficulty???

sigh....anyone want to offer their opinion about Simplicity 4949 pattern and it's difficulty???

I haven't tried that one. It sure is a beautiful dress though! I think the hardest pattern I have ever done is Simplicity 9384 and I did the Snow White Dress.

If you try it go slow and ask questions here. Do you have the Simplicity basic sewing book? A lot of ladies here have found it helpful. Good Luck

sigh....anyone want to offer their opinion about Simplicity 4949 pattern and it's difficulty???

I wanted to respond to this earlier but my Friday was sooo busy. I had to run things to my brother who is opening his store today :) I also had 2 baseball games at the same time on different fields clear across the park from each other. I also had gymnastics that you guessed it started at exactly the same time as baseball. Not to mention running all over town to meet my friend who borrowed my serger only to find out she forgot the power cord. :lmao: All the while dragging 4 grumpy kids and just to make it worse DH had to work late so I was doing it alone. OK enough of my crying! I do get a kid and husband free day today. If only my house was clean I would get to sew.

The simplicity pattern was not hard. The only issue I had was the bodice. I never really did figure out how to read the pattern, but looking at the pictures I was able figure it out. I did have help from my grandma, but she was even a little confused by this one. I really just looked at the pic and figured it out. Grandma thought I was nuts and that it would never work. When I got it all finished she was surprised and is now asking me for help. Scary HUH? Don't let the puff sleeves scare you, they were a breeze. Get a little extra of the thin fabric it frays. I did one of my sleeves twice because there was not enough puff LOL! You have to pull the elastic as you sew very tight. The zipper I did not do, my grandma did. However, I watched her and with a zipper foot, I am sure it would be no problem for you. The directions were actually very good for both sleeves and zipper. The little peplum things on the sides were a breeze. I am sure you can do it. Anyway- To answer a few of your previous questions.

It took me about 6 hours to make the dress. I did however, line it serge it and hand sew all of the sequins (around the bottom, and on the neckline). I added ruffles to the bottom of the dress instead of lace. I am not a lace person, but add ruffles and I LOVE it. This dress is a size 2. It was a little long until I added the petti skirt. I totally think you can do it. With my 50% off coupons it was between $20-25. I forgot I had to make a run for more sequin trim. I can not remember if I got the stuff for the petti at the same time, so the overall cost may very. Good luck. If you have any questions, please PM me. I can try to walk you through it.

Very well said, Tom! The love and time that you put into your creations definitely shows through, too!

Before I had Louie, I used to make clothes for high-end collector dolls. I would spend weeks on one tiny outfit. Not all the time was sewing, either. A lot of thought would go into thinking about the embellishments, the theme, etc. Then I would spend a few days on the photography and writing the listing (for some reason I felt compelled to write a story to go with each outfit :upsidedow ). Most of the time, I would get pretty good prices for my sets, but I definitely had my share of tanks. Even when I made $$$, I probably only made about a dollar for every hour I put into an outfit. Looking back, it was more of a self-sustaining creative outlet than a viable business (thank goodness I still had my day job as a molecular biologist :rotfl: ).

The :wizard: dolly scene was much smaller than the :wizard: boutique scene - less sellers and even less buyers. Nonetheless, it had the same problems with copycats, trolls, and mean-spirited competitive types in general. I was CASE'd quite a bit, but I don't think it really hurt my business :confused3 . The only thing that would upset me when was a seller would copy one of my designs and act as if they had done something so completely novel. One of the sellers would even boast (right in her auctions) about how she IMPROVED other people's designs :sad2: .

Now that I'm doing eBooks, I say PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CASE me (just keep buying my eBooks) :rotfl2: !!!! I don't claim to have invented the twirl skirt or the stripwork jumper by any stretch of the imagination, but I love that I can provide the tools for other designers to create them. It is amazing to see how people can take the same basic style and turn it into something special. And as Tom said, even a CASE'd outfit will not end up exactly like the inspiration. If you do see something on here and/or :wizard: that looks like something you have made, step back, take a deep breath, and be flattered! YOU know that it was your idea, and lots of other people probably do as well. The important thing is to not let these things take away a minute of your happiness or squelch your creativity. :goodvibes

I had a bunch of multi-quotes that I was going to comment on regarding CASE-ing. But, I think several people put it more eloquently than I would have. Most of us have CASEd and been CASEd. I don't think it's a big deal unless it's sold without permission, or if the person tries to pass it off as their idea.

I have something nasty I want to say, but I won't say it. I typed it and re-typed it 20 times and just don't want to "stir the pot". It's not in reference to any of the lovely ladies (or Tom) that regularly post or lurk on this thread. I love you guys.:grouphug:

That being said, I bought some absolutely adorable pink toile fabric with little girls playing on it. I had an idea in my head for exactly what I was going to make with it. Then, I was organizing the photobucket site and I saw the exact outfit I had in my head, even the same fabric. It was made by Glorib! I honestly don't remember ever seeing her outfit before, but I must have and just didn't realize that's where I was getting my "idea" from! I haven't made the outfit yet, but I still plan to (not for profit!). I just wanted to add that sometimes CASEing is totally unintentional!

Teresa and I maintain the photobucket account. Anyone who is around here a lot knows this. Teresa is much nicer than I am and she has spent hours looking through the pictures and removing them for people in the past. I'm not so nice ;) , so I am asking anyone who wants their pictures removed to find them themselves and send me the links to each individual picture so I can remove them.

That is ANYTHING but boring, Steph! What an awesome autograph book!!

All I can say is WOW!!!!!

New Update on my Aunt.

I just talked to my sister (who drove STRAIGHT thru from TX to Michigan, but did make it safely). They are planning to move my Aunt to the "step down" unit TOMORROW instead of Tuesday like they originally planned :cool1: :cool1:

:cheer2:
That is good news!!!

I had asked about 8 -9 months ago to have my pics taken out of that photobucket account. I was given a password went in took them out. I don't mind posting them here but was assured they would never be added. it is a public photobucket. now they are in there. please take them out. don't just block the faces. take them out please.
Lori
We didn't know anything about that, Lori! We didn't maintain the account 8-9 months ago. We've never blocked the faces in pictures and put them on there. :confused3 This is a public forum, so when you post pictures here, anyone can see them. But, we'll stop putting your pictures in the photobucket account now that we know you don't want them there.

Here is the Ariel dress. I CASED the bodice from Carla's pattern, and I CASED all of the appliques, and I CASED the fabric choices, and I CASED the pink trim on the bottom, and I CASED the "stand in front of the door" style picture and I also CASED the "take a picture of your kid with messy hair"
Enjoy!!

Sorry...in light of all of the "out of the blue" CASEing talk...just trying to be funny!
:rotfl2: This turned out so cute, Elisa! Thanks for trying to keep things light around here!

Wow, looks like I missed a lot today. ;)

A quick update on my FIL. He did the stress test this morning and made it thru it. The techs did not stop him, nor called his dr, so that is a good thing. At this point we wait on the dr to call him and see what he says. I imagine it is nothing too major that cannot wait until we get back from our vacation.
I'm glad Harold is doing okay!

Glorib - agree with you 100%!! Post a pic of that cutie in your inspired (not CASEd) set!!

BTW - where's TJ been did I miss her in all the CASEing discussion?
We were happily eating pizza at my mom's house last night and missed the drama!

I know I am kind of late jumping in here. But I have been thinking about making something for the "Big GIve".

Poohey booey, I lost my quotes, so I'll try to remember!!!

Steph!! I LOOOVE the autograph book!!! I think it is gorgeous! You guys are going to have so much fun!

And, someone else posted an amazing autograph book!!! WOW!!!!!

Cindee- I'm glad your sister made it ok (did she beep when she went by my town???):rotfl2: and that your Aunt is doing better!

Oh, there was more, and now my brain isn't working properly!!!

Elisa, I love what you did with your Ariel panels!!! It looks so pretty! And, thanks for sharing the older pictures too!

Heather! I wonder if you bought the same material I had in my hot little hands the other day! It was a pink toille, and I was SOOOOO close to buying it!!!

Thanks for the person posting the picture of the alternative Cinderella type pattern. Do you know what pattern number that was? I can't wait to start on the Big Give project. I just love being a part of this wonderfully loving thread! :cloud9:

DO you have a picture of yours?

Oh How sweet of you to ask! Thankfully my Aunt is doing better than the bag (Not that that is a good comparison LOL). They are planning on moving my Aunt to the Step down unit TODAY!!!! (Instead of Tuesday like they originally thought).

The bag I started..........:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
For starters I was being lazy and did not print out the pattern, I thought I could trace it from the monitor......... I cut it out and realised the pieces were not going to fit together, so I cut it down, starting sewing and found the pieces STILL didn't fit together. Yeah ummm it's bad. If I EVER finish it, it will be a purse for JORD LOL!

But I did get some sewing done yesterday, just not on this bag. (NOTE: I do not blame the pattern or pattern maker etc. It is my own fault, so no one gets to be snarky :) )

YEAH!!! Jord gets a purse!!!!!

I'm still waiting for that picture of Jord and Corey together Cindee!! Could you please post it!!! Seriously, Corey will not mind!

Oh my goodness!!! When I went to Mom's house last night, Heather gave me 5 (or was it more???) CDs full of pictures from our trip!!! This, on top of the two DVDs full that we hav on our own computer, PLUS the three vidotapes full that Corey took = LOTS OF MEMORIES!!!! I doubt there is one minute of our trip that is not documented in some way!!!!

Now, if I just had time to post some of those pictures!! I've got to run to Walmart to pick up Arminda some shoes for the wedding the girls are in today! I should really get going!!!

But, how about this??? I'll make sure to post some pictures of the wedding tonight or tomorrow, ok?
