Hi everyone...been lurking and reading and loving eveyone's outfits and the crayon rolls and bags and ....wow this could go on....

I got my new camera yesterday!:cool1: Still trying to figure all of the new gadgets on it:headache: ...but it will come...I can figure it out in June on the long trip to WDW...

But, I wanted to show you my sewing machine...I wanted to show what true vintage looks like...but it is a good machine for a straight stitch!

Now, I am back to sewing...look at that ticker:scared1: Still have so much to do. When my models are home from school, I'll post some pics!

Have a great day!

That is my mom's old machine!! :goodvibes I remember when she bought the machine (builr right into the table) with the foot pedal and everything at an antique flea market. She has a modern machine now, but she still uses the ca 1900 Singer!

MICHELLE!!!! Since WHEN do we NOT want pictures??

Speaking of I meant to mention that Mac and I made his and his sisters No Sew Fleece blankets yesterday-I got them on clearance at Joann's for 5.97 and am upset I didn't get more. But the kids LOVE them. Mac was so happy to get to help w/ a fabric project and Lily was thrilled to sleep w/ her princess "blankie" (since she started to daycare EVERYTHING gets an ie at the end!! ) Gavins was Mickey, since last year he asked for a Mickey fleece to take w/ him to WDW this year.

I didn't however take pictures of them. I might tonight.

...t.

You guys are so sweet, and I think you all know how I feel about you.

Great news t, I hope you do really well!

Here is Megan's autograph book. I was going to keep it a surprise but since she asked for one and came across me making it my cover was blown. I took a drawing pad and covered it. It looks pretty boring, but I am hoping it will look snazzier with pictures and autographs. I am just happy to scrap; I haven't done anything in a year!

Oh, and the bodkin is quite the multi-tasker; I used it to push the ribbon through the spirals.

IMG_0523.jpg

We are going to the princess lunch in Norway tomorrow (eek, tomorrow) so we hope to see many princesses.

IMG_0524.jpg

She is also going to the Wonderland Tea Party this weekend. I don't think adults are allowed but I hope she'll get some pictures.

IMG_0525.jpg

We always seem to run into these two, so I made a page for them. They are often at the back entrance of Epcot (in case you were wondering).

IMG_0526.jpg

Since we hang out in England a lot I made pages for our Pooh friends.

IMG_0527.jpg

I don't know why I included Mickey and friends; I know we won't have time for them, but we will some time right?

IMG_0528.jpg

That's for Miss Cammie, Megan helped me with that page. I don't know if you can tell, lol.

I included blank pages in the back so if we run into someone I didn't make a page for I can do when we get home. It was fun to make and didn't take long at all. I hope the characters can sign it ok!

Megan went through a Rolie Polie Olie phase and started talking like Zoe (me want this, etc.). I was livid! I wanted to write a letter to them to complain!

Congratulations T-Beri!

I know you will do great! Your outfits for Little are always adorable!

Gorgeous appliques as usual Elisa!

Happy Birthday Megan! :bday: Stephres I love your autograph book. I have been cutting out jungle animals with my cricut this afternoon in between laundry loads.

We also went out for Lunch. Today is DH's Birthday. Tomorrow we are having a big party here at our house.

I have to say that I love all the sentimental posts. You guys are great company throughout the day as I do my housework and run around. I am looking forward to summer. I love the positive feedback and all the wonderful comments and support we have here. If anyone has a question it is always answered by at least one of us.

Last June my DH and I took our little ones to WDW for the first time. It was a dream come true. I painstakingly planned every aspect of our trip. I honestly believed we would never be able to go back. Who knew we would have been hooked! LOL

So, my MIL sent my DD to the Wonderland Tea Party. I searched for the perfect Alice dress and could not find one. So I said I will make one. How hard can it be? I bought a pattern and fabric. I came home and read the directions. I placed the pattern pieces and cut them out. Then I called my Mother. I was in a panic. What had I gotten myself into!!! She came over and I put my head in her lap and cried. I am not lying!!! She talked me through the pattern. I have never felt such a huge sense of accomplishment as I did with that Alice dress!

We came home and I found this thread. I was hooked! Soon I started sewing a lot. Now over half of my girl’s clothes are made by me. I take a lot of time picking out fabrics and patterns. I even started making my own patterns. When I first started I cased a Nemo dress and a pair of shorts. I also recreated a very expensive outfit at Christmas. That was more of a challenge from a friend then a case but I cased it.

So here is my question. Honestly, how do you feel about case’ing? Now that I am a confident seamstress (for lack of better word) my feelings are different. Now it is one thing if someone is like . .. oh I love that fabric or I love that pattern where did you get it? Even I want to make my DD a dress like that can you help? Sure I would love to but when people start case’ing for profit I really have a problem. I made a set of autograph cards and posted them on the DIS. Do you know someone took them and is now selling them on Ebay!!!!

I just wanted to get your ladies thoughts on this matter. It is something that has been on my mind lately. Thanks!!!

I feel that if someone makes something for a profit and they STEAL the idea, I think that is wrong. I spend a lot of time on my designs. I do it for fun and profit. But if someone desides to make something and then sell it because they saw my outfit first that just is not right.

Shame on that person that stole your idea!!!

Lori
p.s. we are going in october!!!! I need some cards.... you want to make some for us!!!

Anything for you. :D

aimee, Im so sorry someone stold your idea to profit from.

I don't mind the whole casing thing. I think most the ladies here consider it a compliment for you to case them. But to copy and make profit is wrong if you are trying to say it was your idea and/or OOAK.

Also a lot of the ladies (and tom) ask if they would mind if they case it.

Like i said im sorry that happend to you.

I don't like CASE-ing. I think it wrong to do to the designer *AND* the buyer of the original set. Now if it isn't meant to be a OOAK I don't mind if the seller makes more than one but for someone to knock it off, well, I just don't like that.

As a buyer, the reason I buy custom boutique is the originality factor. I look for things that are unique and have fabulous details. Most of the outfits like that are very expensive, like $200 - $300 range or more. If I am going to pay that for an outfit, which I don't mind doing for my daughter as long as I can, I really don't want someone to knock it off. I think it cheapens the original.

Some people think it is okay to CASE if you aren't going to sell the set. I still don't like it even if it is for personal use. There are so many different ways to go. I think part of the idea of making your own set is coming up with an original idea.

Just my opinion.

You know the cards were one thing. They were very time consuming but it was a activity my daughter and I did together so I was happy to share. I was upset that someone took my three (at the time) year olds hard work and sold it. I just used that example because it was mine personally. They did not just steal my idea the sold my pdf! I know because Peter Pan was missing.

With customs it is even worse IMHO. When you take hours and hours picking out the perfect fabrics and pattern. Then you are so selective and precise with your appliques it transforms from a dress to a work of art. It then just becomes artistic theft! It saddens me that some people feel the need to steal others ideas and then sell them.

I think if you ask the originally person that made it, and they say yes, I think that is totally ok.

I have no issues with someone who can't afford something they see on Ebay and making it for themselves.
If I made something for DD and posted it and then someone else took it and made it into a business- Im not exactly sure how I would feel.
In general I think CASEing is a compliment. If you dont want anyone to completely CASE your outfit, and it would really bother you that someone else did that, dont post it.
I hope I dont offend anyone, its just my opinion.
I come here to get ideas, no I havent copied anyone but I certainly have learned what patterns others have used and love their stuff and I use that pattern- like CarlaCs patterns. Some people have a harder time with the idea part, but want to make lovely things for their children, so they come here, is it so bad for them to look at something and say "OOh, I think I could do that!"

I think it also depends on how original an outfit is, certainly on here I can tell which ones are a totally orginal idea and which ones are simply a pattern- that's me. I just follow the directions. LOL.

I am new to this board and have been amazed by all your wonderful designs. And maybe I should keep my mouth shut but this topic intrigues me. First the person who took your book and is mass producing them is a pretty crappy person. Did you report them to ebay, I would think you could show some proof of ownership through the forums history. With respect to the case ing, is the dress/outfit an exact copy or similiar in fashion. Are they mass producing, is it just a one off. I work with a lot of design graphics and in many cases have had very similiar designs by completely different firms. In some cases arent you casing off Disney and their creations and not paying them royalties. Also for those of you who do sale on ebay how do you feel if someone resells something you made for them, is that okay.

I would say this is a really gray issue, just playing devils advocate here. I really do think all you ladies are very talented and that your creativity is actually increased by the open discussions and collaborations on this forum
