I FINALLY finished another outfit! hahaha...I've been procrastinating. It's Violette's 4th of July outfit. I made a sailor collar to go with it, but now I'm thinking that it's too much. I just like the top, pants, and beret. My model is napping at the moment..hehe..but I will post pics of her in it when she wakes up.

Here it is on her:

It did turn out a little shorter then I wanted. What do you think? This is pressed at a 1/4" hem so I could do a 1/8" and give it a little more length.

What about adding a ruffle to the bottom to give it some length?

We are in the same boat! I have a 2 (she'll be three on 6/1) and a 4 (she'll be 5 on 7/26) year old daughter and my third is due on 7/9 but I'll be induced on 7/2 if the baby doesn't decide to make it's debut sooner (and mine never do!)! We have been in the 90's for the last week and a half and will continue to be until Octoboer probably! Thankfully Texas isn't as humid as the midwest (usually, although this past week has been humid). I grew up in St. Louis and I truly don't think there is anyplace hotter than St. Louis in July! Nothing like 95 degrees with 90% humidity! My babies always end up being a little on the big side so the doctor takes pity on me and induces me. The first one I was a week overdue though before I got induced. Typical for her, all in her own time :rotfl: . I have gained 24 pounds (more than I had hoped at 35 weeks) but I'm measuring about 3 cm big right now. My first was 9 lb 1 oz and my second (10 days early) was 7 lb 14 oz. We'll see with this one! Good luck!
Congrats!! This is my first! I am right at 33 weeks and have gained 24 lbs as well. But the gain has slowed down a bit in the past few weeks to about .5lb a week where I was at 1lb/week. So hopefully I won't go too much over 30lb. That would be okay. My mom gained 60-70 with both me and my brother. :scared1: And she is small like me - I just can't imagine! I guess I was all of a sudden measuring a little big because my doc just sent me in for my 4th ultrasound! But everything seemed fine. My little one is just under 4 lbs right now, so hopefully she won't be too big (I was really small and right on time). I hope this one is on time - I am in a wedding 3 weeks after my due date!! I live in KC, but I have lived all throughout Missouri and it does get hot!

I think you will find the vynal (sp??) a challenge for curved edges- like the collar. You might consider doing a collar with points- OR a madarin collar would be cute. Cant wait to see.

Thanks! I bet it would be tough to round it. I'll have to modify the pattern a bit. Hopefully that shouldn't be too hard.

Jess

Congrats on the new sewing set up!

What went wrong on your first crayon roll? I want to make a few and would love to hear any tips you might have.

It was really one of those Duh! moments...I trimmed to close to the stitching and when i turned it right side out to to the top stitch, I was just a tad short on fabric with the opening.

Good luck getting the PG test result you want. I hope to know next week too. It has been a long 7 months of trying for us.

I hope you get good news soon!!

I follow the directions of CarlaC's peasant top, which calls for 1/4" seams. For the bottom, I usually add a folded over ruffle so there isn't a hem. If I were going to add a hem instead I would do a narrow folded one. I hope this makes sense, let me know if it doesn't! :confused3

th_MG_0478.jpg

Aren't they cute making the campfire!!!!
Have you guys seen the new feature on YCMT yet? They have free video demonstrations now! The best part is you can see what CarlaC looks like. She has a video demo of the ruffler foot. Here's a link: http://www.youcanmakethis.com/index.htm?cnxtrk=295848#cnxSiteTop
She's very cute!

She IS very cute!!! Cool video!

My model is at school, but here is the Minnie colored criss cross top:

This is so cute!!! I love this pattern!

We drove right through those storms yesterday! We were on I-90, and it was raining so hard that people were pulling off the road. We got of on I-91, and this really scary wall of cloud was running parallel to us all the way to Hartford. I was ready to hunker down in a ditch, I tell ya! We didn't get it too bad in Middletown.

that sounds REALLY scary!!!! I'm glad you are ok!
Awww - thanks for saying that!

I'm supposed to do one on making buttonholes this week. Too bad I screwed up my hair! :scared1:

Actually, it is looking a little bit less like bean dip than when I first colored it, so hopefully it won't be terribly obvious.

It could be worse, it could have been guacomole!

Hi I do a lot of window shopping (I just hate the term lurking) on this board and when I saw a question I can help with I wanted to respond.

Check out the scrapbooking section of your favorite arts and crafts store for

Buttons (great mickey head buttons in the scrapbook area)
Character Bottle Caps

Other items
Recycled Gymboree hair clips. I love my gymbo clips so sometimes I take off the cat, strawberry or whatever is on it and repurpose it.
Jibbitz (those croc things) you slice of the back part that goes in the shoe and hot glue it
Cell phone charms
Shoe charms
The Mcdonalds princess toys (yes some of embellishments make for great hair center pieces in bows)

Disney Foamez Key chains and other craft items (sometimes they had round charms that work well)
Single Polymer beads and buttons from :wizard: but I only do that if its a very special outfit because I love the beads so much

Basically if its not nailed down and in some cases if its nailed down I still might see if it work.

I'll go back to browsing but I LOVE all of your creations, it makes me want to take a class to see if I still have two left hands. Havent sewed since I made a toga for a toga party :rotfl2: Yes I really did
GREAT tips!!! I will have to add these to the bookmarks!!!

HI All! This is a dress that I made Lexie this morning. I bought Minnie and Mickey fabric from Malaysia and had never used it. So today I dragged it out and cut out the Minnie and Mickey. Lexie told me what she wanted. I wanted to use some yellow, but she said no...:confused3

I love this dress!!! It is just adorable!!!
I am officially addicted to checking out al of these wonderful creations you girls have made and of course totally jealous of how talented you are!!!!!

I love the minnie dress and the halter shirt actually i love all the new ones posted.

When I eventually get my darn sewing machine maybe you guys would be kind enough to let me know what patterns you have used for some of these outfits. If so I really hope they are easy....
Like everyone else is telling you, get the You Can Make This, Portrait Peasant Top by CarlaC (there are a few, so make sure you get hers), her Easy Fit Pants and the Simply Sweet dress pattern (all by CarlaC aka:LouiesMama AKA:Beandip)
I have to tell you guys this before I go to work. Last night Jenna and I were in Wal-Mart getting the fabric for the BIG GIVE. While I was getting fabric cut she was looking at the buttons. Well when the lady is done cutting fabric I go look at the buttons with Jenna because I needed some for something I plan on making her. Well they have this big white button that has pentagon shapes all over the curved front of it and Jenna points it out and says "Look mom!! It's Epcot!" :rotfl2: I was laughing so hard. It did sort of look like Epcot. Ok now I have to go to work.

Please PM the colors for the outfits for the BIG GIVE and please tell me what character or what they are going to be so I can make the matching bows.
Jenna is too cute Crystal!!!
:welcome: I don't like "lurker" either. That sounds sort of evil. I like "window shopper", too! Too funny that you made a toga! :rotfl: Do try to sew again! I gave up when I was 17 after making a truly awful outfit for my baby nephew. But, I started up again about 10 months ago and I LOVE it now!
Ok, that outfit wasn't the best, :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :happytv: :rolleyes1 but you forget that you DID make my neice, Melanie, a REALLY cute pink overall outfit! And, you made Corey those adorable tiny little jeans that he wore the day he came home from the hospital!!! SOOO CUTE!!! I need to find a picture of those jeans...
What a brilliant idea!!! I am going to do that! Thanks!!

Teresa..do you think your headache could related to something that you ate?For years, my dh gets this terrible headaches that comes with dizziness/nausea. He would be pretty much non-functional....he went to the doctors, they gave him migraine medicine which he didn't like because of how he felt after taking them. We later found out that it was what he ate...food containing MSG gave him those headaches. I think it is a threshold issue..he can have some, but if he eats too much food containing MSG within a few days, he gets those headaches again. It does makes shopping for him, and two kids with food allergies very challenging..I spend a lot of time reading labels!

Anyway, hope you feel better soon!!

I hope you find your kitty soon!
Heather and Teresa - I will be keeping your SIL in my thoughts and prayers today. Keep us posted!

Jenny
Brian keeps telling me I should make some sort of diary, so we can see if there is a pattern to these things. It's probably a very good idea!

I hope we find Foster too!

Thakns for the prayers for Barbara.
Heather- I didn't quote you but I wanted to say we'll all be thinking of barbara today!!:goodvibes :grouphug:
Thank you!
OK, everyone - Fancy Nancy skirt is almost done! Need to do some embellishing on it and then make a top - hopefully later today I will have some pics!
I told Lydia you were almost done, and she is vey excited to see pictures!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:
Teresa and Heather - I hope Barbara is doing well and that maybe the surgery will be over soon. How long is insurance letting her stay in the hospital? Since the government won't cover overnight stays for mastectomies (how crazy is that - proof that we need more women in politics and the government) some insurance companies won't either. I had a friend who had a double mastectomy in February and needed 3 nights in the hospital. Thankfully her insurance paid for it. I know it is a rough recovery and she'll need lots of help initially, she is lucky to have you guys!
Thanks, as Heather poted, she's out of surgerey, and they are keeping her overnight. Hopefully Medicaid will pay for that, because I don't know how David and Barbara will if they don't. The whole thing is very frustrating.

Need more Peasant Top help! Have you found that the elastic measurements given are too much? I have it fed thru for the neckline and around the arms and it does not look tight enough. Of course I know I will have to wait on Erin to get home to try it on. Here is what it looks like so far:

[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/tendermoments/th_friendspeasant.jpg
This is great!!! It is very cute. I never measure the elastic, I just shorten it until I think it looks good.

Teresa you are brilliant increasing the tension on the macine works GREAT for ruffles!!!! That will save soooo much time!!!!

You are welcome!!! It was CandiceNicole that first posted the tip. I can't believe I had never heard of it before. It is so fast and easy!

Where's mister Snooty smiley???? Ok, so they moved him, and my computer is slow today, so you will just have to pretend he's right here .......

hey cool, I'm typing to you AND I'm talking to you on the phone!!!!!

I've just been looking at the chalk boards on YCMT - do you mind me asking how you make the board bit? I'm very tempted to get this to make as stocking filler presents for Christmas but wanted to be sure I could get the materials first!!

The chalkboard is made out of oil cloth, it comes in black and green. I think I got it @ Hancock Fabric, but it might have been joann it was so long ago. I did modify my size to what was on YCMT.com.

My daughter loves hers! My aunts, female cousins & grandma on my moms side get togther every other month for what we call our "generation" club, and it is basically a day of food and just being around women & we always do some kind of project. And the person who hosts the club that month is in charge of the project and that was mine last time. Everybody loved them and we had a great time making them.

PM me if you have any questions about them. ;)

I had really wanted to just use the Minnie and make a pink dot skirt to match Minnie's skirt, but in light of all of the discussions...LOL that we had last weekend, I decided since someone recently used pink dot, I decided not to. Sad huh?

I think it's great the way it is. But why not use the pink dot. I think I may have gone that root also.

SAHM1000~ I have seen so many versions of this top I don't know who originally came up with it. ;)

I think this is great!! I always have trouble withe elastic measurements to. I had a heck of a time trying to descide what to do with this fabric!

I have a quick question. Does anyone know how much to add to a size 4 pattern to make it into a size 5 (kids sizes)? My MIL bought me fabric and a pattern to make DD a dress for her birthday. I know she spent a lot on it. They only make the pattern up to a size 4 and DD is a 5 now. Help?? Thanks :)

I ususally use the 1/4 seam instead of the 5/8 to get a larger fit.

Is AimeeG still here? I have tried pming her several times and never heard back...does anyone have her email? thanks!

I think she dropped the group.

You could always add something to the bottom if you want to. A ruffle or a trim. But I think it looks great the way it is.

hmm as I feared :( I've done a quick search on :wizard: and I'm not finding much. How long before Joann's goes International??!!!

A question for a thickie - is oil cloth the same as pvc tablecloth fabric is does it dffer?

That is very cute! I wish I had the real Minnie dot fabric. I had to use the little tiny dot fabric from Wally World.

What a brilliant idea!!! I am going to do that! Thanks!!

How much Minnie Dot fabric are you looking for?

Jenny

I'm not looking for any now!! I went to Hancock today and they had a brand new bolt of it!!!! When I went to get it cut, all the workers loved the fabric and said they'd never seen it before. I went ahead and got 5 yards even though I have no idea what I'm going to do with it.

The best part was, when I went to pay the gal at the register gave me a coupon for 40% off! So I got 5 yards for $15! Woo hoo!!! :cool1:

So sorry I haven't been around much: this is the last week of school and it is crazy!

1) Praying for H & T's SIL: hope all goes well. Teresa, I'm so sorry about your cat. I was hoping he would come back by now.

2) Amy, your peasant top looks great! I like them a little longer and ruffles really aren't that hard. You could also get a ruffle already ruffled in the trim section of the fabric store.

3) Elisa, your baby mickey and minnie outfit is so cute! I am a little afraid to show things off too now, so I sympathize.

4) Megan loves Fancy Nancy so I can't wait to see the outfit. I can't show Megan though or she will demand one of her own.

I know I am missing and forgetting things, sorry, I am a little distracted because this is what my child looked like when she got off the bus:

Both front teeth came out! No more cute baby smile. :(

I'll banana with you!   How cool to have your very own sewing area! I'm still sewing on the dining room table, but hope to have a sewing room sometime within the next year or so.
