Disboutiquers Part 4ish Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes psst..we sew

Hi. I'm new to this thread. I learned how to sew in a Puppetry class I had last spring and I haven't had much practice since. I'm going to be surprising my parents with a trip to DL for their anniversary in June but the trip is not until November. I want to make all of us matching shirts, at least, and I'd like to do a few outfits for DD4. I'd like to get my parent's shirts done to give them with their surprise, but I need something super-simple, like an aplique? I don't even think I can spell it right. Anyway, if someone can help with where to find cute stuff that isn't too much harder than ironing...and maybe cutting, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I compared our itineraries and we're not going to any of the same parks on the same days. :sad2: Can you meet up with us at the campfire sing-a-long at Fort Wildnerness on Thursday, May 8? It starts at 8:00pm, but we'll be there by 7:00pm, at the latest. Stephres will be with us, too!

I am so sorry that I can't commit to that. This is my first trip with her alone and so I don't know how well we'll do. She's grown up a lot in the last 6 months or so so I'm sure we'll be fine. She's a funny little thing-very independent thinking but she really enjoys being the "baby" of the family. It will be really interesting to see how she does with just the 2 of us for 6 nights. SO...I'm a bit leary about going to the campground at night-not afraid that anything bad/dangerous will happen but I stayed at the cabins one time so I know that getting around at the campground is a bit harder. And I also really wanted to night time extra magic hours at AK that night.

BUT...I will see how traveling with Emma goes and keep the campfire in mind. Where at the campground were you going to meet up?

I have been planning this outfit for quite some time!!! I at first was going to make it like the one on Ollie Girl Boutique's site, but then Lydia kept picking out more and more and more animal print, so then I decided to do the ruffle. I was going to do the BowzNstuff triple ruffle, but I'm not real pleased with how that one turns out. It's not really a ruffle, just layers. So, I decided to go with good old CarlaC's pattern! (I had actually decided to do this one before I did the Marie one.) Carla's peasant dress top and half the rumble ruffles.

My little one just came in and saw this dress on the screen. She said that is sooo cute and big and cuddly! She is 4 1/2. She said it is so animal looking and dotty! I believe that is code for she loves it and wants one!

jessica, nice!

Linnette, wow, you are sure busy. I love your work.

HeatherSue and teresajoy, have fun on your trip. Please be sure to post pics when you get back. I loved looking at all the pics that others have been posting lately. I am in awe! :)

I am working on dresses and a shirt for my kids using Burda patterns. I am taking an advanced sewing class with my daughter on Saturday's, teaching kids, too, plus I have finals next week (biology and economics).

Keep up the great work, everyone! Oh, one more thing... because I view this thread often and my 2.5 yo sees it she actually wears dresses now. She is a total tomboy and you don't know how happy I am. Thank you all....she finally doesn't fight me when I let her wear dresses. lol

Hey guys. Haven't checked in in a while. But I thought I'd put out a PSA

MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN UP ALL OF YOUR NEEDLES AND PINS

I stepped on a sewing needle last night and about a half inch of it broke off in my foot. It is pushing against the bone in between the 3rd and 4th toes. B took me to the ER where they took some Xrays and said "yep there's a needle in your foot. You need to call someone else" The foot Dr. says it needs full blown surgery w/ IV sedation and all. Which he assures me I want.:scared1:

Not that that doesn't totally suck enough...I only have gained 26 hours of Paid Time Off at my new job and since yesterday I took off sick (prior to the accident-I have a terrible head cold) My PTO will be used for the rest of this pay period and then they can only secure my job through 5 days of unpaid leave. The Dr. promises I will not be back on my feet in a week so I am pretty much SCREWED.

I blame. You all:rotfl: If it weren't for all of the great stuff you guys make inspiring me to sew more this wouldn't have happened. I didn't even have so much as a needle and thread in my house before b/c when I wanted to make something I just went to my mom's or MIL's. But NO..I have to have all the cool sewing stuff at home so I can keep up w/ the disboutiquers

This so totally beats the laundry incident and the sciccor nightmare.

But I gotta run, the pain meds (I can't get into an OR until Fri) are kicking in.

Can you not apply for FMLA. DH had to do that when he had his hernia surgery. We thought he was going to be out for only 2 or 3 days but it ended up being more like 6 weeks. Because he filed FMLA his job was there for him when he was better.

Well Heather and Teresa and family....tomorrow is May 1st! I remember your ticker saying 9 months or something...yeesh and now its only 1 day left. You see fuzzy Disney math says you dont count the current day or the day you leave so basically you have one day left. ARE YOU READY TO GO?? :confused3 :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:    :dance3: :cheer2: :cheer2: :yay: :yay:

LOVE this too! What fabric is it? Where did you find it?

HELP!
I have a problem. I have the Brother Costco version of the i6000. Something is seriously wrong! It appears to be a problem with the area that the bobbin sits. It's not spinning, but it's kinda turning when I attempt to sew. The needle keeps hitting a part of the bobbin casing thing, and won't sew. Does anyone know what's going on from the description? Is there anything I can do? help me please!

I haven't had my brother long enough to have much trouble. But on my Janome and Singer, the bobbin sits in a case. This case comes out for cleaning and oiling. A few times after a major jam, it popped out of place, so it would do what I think your describing. I wouldn't even begin to know how to tell you to check or try to put it back. Is there something in the book or the website that might show you how to oil the machine?

I think all three of the styles that have been made so far are very pretty. I also noticed that the dress seemed to change throughout the scenes that they were shown in. I think that has to do with this movie being made in the early stages of animation. I am making Jenna's dress as a mix of what I have seen so far.

I made this dress also. But I haven't posted pictures yet. I used a card Kirsta got for her 1st bday. But then went and looked at all our storybooks, and I don't think any of them looked the same. So I stuck with the card, since I liked it best.

OUCH!! I know I've stepped on my fair share of pins. Do you have a desk job? Can they find something sedendary for you to do? Would the Dr. go for that? I know we have the same policy at work, but if someone has the same time issue as you, but the Dr. says it would be 10 days, they usually go for it. See if you can get more specifics from him. Good luck!

Hannah's dress is so pretty! I love that we have the 2 different styles represented in the movie! When I was trying to figure out how to make the dress, I closely watched and re-watched the movie trying to figure out how the dress was made. I took screenshots every time the dress was shown, and there are 3 different versions!! The version of the skirt when it's shown in the cupboard is totally different from the version when she comes down the stairs. There's also another version when the mice are almost done with it.
Here are two of them, taken right from the movie:

I'd say mine is more like the 1st one and yours is more like the 2nd one. I just had to jump in with the pictures when you said you made yours like it was shown in the movie! It's funny that the animators couldn't decide on one style!

I never noticed this! How funny that the same dress changes!

Oh no, that sucks. I wondered where you have been. I'm so sorry to hear about this. That is some Bad Luck. :sad1: You don't think they will hold your job for you? Wow, that sure isn't very nice!

Glad to hear from you though. Check in more often if y ou get the chance!

OMG! That is so awful! I'm so sorry this happened to you! I agree with the FMLA thing. All they can do is say no.

Thanks for the concern. I don't really know about the FMLA or whether it would help. I'll look into it.

The thing about my job not being secured more than 5 days of unpaid leave is a corporate thing.

It's not a matter of whether or not I am released from the doctor- I will be physically unable to do my job until my stitches come out etc. I work primarily on my feet all day. I have offered that once I am cleared to return to light duty- desk work I would be willing to do that to keep my job but they didnt' seem to think there was a way for them to do that my boss said they'd have to get w/ HR about it. Of course since driving will be an issue I don't know what I'd really do.

They suck.
TJ and Heather are coming to sunny FL. and I am all injured and stuff...I am SO bummed out!

If you guys get back on the board before you leave have a great time I wish I was going to be able to get out to see you. enjoy and post lots of pics when you get home.

I couldn't remember if you said you couldn't make the campfire. Well, hopefully we'll see you in the parks somewhere! You never know, we might do some park-hopping and run into you. Don't hesitate to chase us down if you see us in the parks!!

We've never been to Fort Wilderness, but we're planning on meeting up wherever the campfire is. So far, it's just us and Steph.

YIKES!!!!! Oh my!!! I can't believe you need surgery and everything for a pin in your foot. You poor thing! I will be extra dilligent about picking up needles. So, do you think you can get a wheelchair and meet us at the campfire singalong next Thursday?

Well Heather and Teresa and family....tomorrow is May 1st! I remember your ticker saying 9 months or something...yeesh and now its only 1 day left. You see fuzzy Disney math says you dont count the current day or the day you leave so basically you have one day left. ARE YOU READY TO GO?? :confused3 :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:    :dance3: :cheer2: :cheer2: :yay: :yay:

A-ha!! So I don't count today or Saturday? So, we have 2 more days and Teresa has 1 more day (she's staying overnight in Detroit Friday night). I am pretty much ready. I have an entire garment bag stuffed full of Tessa and Sawyer's customs. Plus, I have another suitcase for the rest of their clothes. Then, I have a big suitcase full of my clothes and Henry's clothes. Then, I have more "stuff" I need to pack in another bag. Plus, another bag for our bathroom items, then our carry-on bags to entertain the kids in the airplane. Then I have the laptop, my camera, my purse, the diaper bag, the stroller, Sawyer's car seat (we're bringing that on the plane), and Tessa's car seat (we have to check it because it's a big 'ol Britax Regent that isn't airplane approved). Hmm...that's a lot 'o stuff!! :rotfl2:

But, yes, I'm pretty much ready! :rotfl2:

I was the other person who made the pink Cindy dress. My DD requested last September for our next trip to the BBB. I made it like it was shown in the movie. It all from "prom" fabric. It is lined and has a built in petticoat. It has a lining, two layers of tulle, white satin underskirt and pink overskirt! I am not sure I will ever make another one of these! LOL

MarchWDW4522.jpg

Love this one too- and the little sis mousey dress- too cute! I'm jealous you tracked down the mice too! Bet they loved it. We had the first CM tell us they'd be out on Main St at 4. Then at 4 a "CM on the street" told us oh no, they were at the castle getting ready for supper. And since we had conflicting reports then from two CMs, we went into Town Hall... that guy told us that the mice were far too small to do meet and greets because they'd get stepped on :confused3 Then, of course, they were in the nighttime parade (though a little hard to get a picture of them with DD then, lol)

I wonder if the 3 styles in the movie= different animators for different parts of the movie? Now you see they have models/statues for everyone to refer to for consistancy... probably wasn't the case back in the day?

the FMLA only covers emplyees who have worked for the company at least 12 months.

Frankly I am not sweating it. The company largely sucks and my Dh has been begging me to look for a new job. I am going back to school in Aug. and I'd have to get a new job anyway b/c the hours at this one are NOT flexible. I'd like to tell them what to do with the job but I think it may work out for the best this way. I can collect unemployment while I heal and find a new job and school is just around the bend. I am trying to see if w/ my grants and loans I can just stay home (saving daycare $$) and take the majority of my classes online. Finishing my degree has become my #1 priority so I can stop working for crappy places like this one.

the surgery thing...yeah, well apparently the stuff (muscles, tendons, ligaments) by your toes are kinda important so they can't just go hacking away at them...that's why they couldn't take care of it in the ER or the Dr's office. YUCK. I've never had surgery and I am pretty nervous.

I'll see what I can do about the campfire.Keep your fingers crossed cause I'll have to talk B into driving me since I won't be able to use my foot.

Ooh I know about FMLA!
http://www.dol.gov/dol/allcfr/ESA/Title_29/Part_825/29CFR825.104.htm

http://www.afscme.org/issues/1764.cfm

My understanding is, you are covered by FMLA if you have worked for the company for 12 months (there is also a n "hour" requirement)

I made this dress also. But I haven't posted pictures yet. I used a card Kirsta got for her 1st bday. But then went and looked at all our storybooks, and I don't think any of them looked the same. So I stuck with the card, since I liked it best.
Please post a pic. I would love to see another variation of the dress.

I would buy the one that fits the width, then take key measurements and draft patten extensions as needed. Center back neck (the bone at the base of the neck) to waist for bodice length and waist to desired skirt/pant length for the bottoms. For pants, just compare a pair that fits her well to the pattern and make the adjustments. You'll probably need to adjust the rise and inseam, since she's a bit lanky. Lanky (or skinny minnie, as you say!) can be good! Takes a while to completely outgrow a pattern!

Oops! Forgot to mention the sleeves. Heather covered it, though.

Width wise she is like a size 3 but needs a 7 for length! Makes this lots of fun. The bad thing was I cut out the fabric using the 7 pattern so mom is playing with the patterns to see if we can just take it in on the sides. 2 outfits are halter tops and 1 is a halter dress so I don't think a tie in the back will work for that.

We'll be on the airplane while you are at the campfire! Have a great trip! You too Teresa! Can't wait for a zillion pictures and trip reports!

Welcome! :flower3: I think a mickey head is a good thing to start with. One line and can practice on some curves. My first thing was an elmo head, almost similar. Straight lines are of course easier, but not sure what all you could make with just straight lines.

Hey guys. Haven't checked in in a while. But I thought I'd put out a PSA

OUCH! My DH's son stepped on a pin when he was a kid and they had to take him to the ER too! I am so paranoid about the pins around here and I know I have been sloppy with them lately. They had to do surgery on him too.

We'll be praying for you!

Got up with fever(103.0), sore throat , body aches... is this a cold or a virus...

well I only got to work on some pj's for my boys

and 2 handbags ... only 21 more to go

Linnette

Hope you are feeling better! The pj's look great! I can't imagine making that many bags!

ETA: Oops! I forgot to add that I just used a regular machine for the Mickey autograph. I don't have digitizing software for the computer so can't do it on my machine easily, although I can on the touch screen. Too bad I have no idea where I put the little stylus pen!!!! I tried this morning with an ink pen lid but it wasn't working out well. I decided I could do it quicker just with lots of patience and turns!

Here's my rough plan:
Sun May 4th land at MCO at 12:43, ME to Pop. I made Pop T's. DD says I get to pick the first ride because it is my birthday trip but she wants me to pick Test Track so I guess we'll head to Epcot. I was thinking of heading to MK to ride BTMRR to get her ready for Monday.

Monday May 5th AK for early entry. She'll be wearing a store bought Tigger safari T. She wants to try Everest. We have a 10:30 ADR at Tusker House.
