I just finished a dress for Jenna. This dress is for her to wear while we are driving to WDW. I was in Hancock Fabrics the other day and the lady that was cutting the fabric showed it to me. I thought it was really cute. I thought this fabric is just screaming to become a little girl's dress.

This is the detail at the bottom of the dress.
S2010140.jpg

It's a Daisy Kingdom fabric.

It made a very cute dress!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before I got my Kenmore serger (Xmas Present in the early '90s) I would finish all exposed seams in the following manner. I would sew the first seam at the 5/8 seam allowance, then run a second seam 1/4 inch away from the first seam within the seam allowance. Then I would cut off the excess fabric to the second line of stitching, then I would zig zag stitch over the cut edge.
Although this method is labor intensive it is well worth the effort. The guides that come with a commercial pattern ASSUMES that you know how to finish the seams. Or they will tell you to "trim the seam" let's say around a neck line or armhole, they again assume you know that the seams should be trimmed in a "graded"fashion with one layer of fabric a bit longer than the other so the seam will lay flat. and then it is a toss-up whether they mention that that same seam needs to be clipped to just before the stitching or it will never lay flat at all. The best purchase for beginners or someone who hasn't sewn since"Junior High" Home EC class would be a basic sewing book. Singer makes some great books....I have several and some still refer back to at times...Nana

I tend to do all the things you mentioned- depending on the outfit, but I still just dont care for unlined clothing for the most part.

Stephers- LOVE the knife pleats. I vote sleepwear or loungewear!

candicenicole- I simply adore that pooh dress and I think it definitely works for FL in Dec.

I know there are others Im forgetting....hmmm

Photos of Ariel outfit-I wasnt feeling too hot today (despite the GORGEOUS 75 degree weather) so I didnt get started on the birthday outfit- it will have to wait for tomorrow. It isn't photographing very well for me today.

here is the Minnie Dot outfit from ebay

here is an upclose shot

here is the sellers listing

should I clip the threads or leave them?

I don't where it is normally kept, the lady had it at the cutting table. She had just got some for herself to make a camp shirt for a trip she has coming up. I fell in love with it. I had been trying to come up with something for Jenna to wear when on the way to WDW. It was on sale for half off. I think I paid $3.95 a yard. I got two yards so the dress didn't cost much to make.

I love the Ariel outfit. I think it what you got looks cuter and much neater than the listing.

Ok here is the sorta of copied shirt.
S2010141.jpg

I made this last night.
Here is the dress that I made using fabric that Disneymommieof2 gave me.
S2010142.jpg

Thanks again. Jenna loves the dress and the fishies.
And here is a pic of the love seat that we bought. The couch looks the same just longer.
S2010143.jpg

I feel horrible today, so tomorrow I am going to try to get an appointment to see my doctor and see what I need to do to shake this cold that I have had for about 3 months now.

Thank you for all of the kind words about my Pooh Dress/ Top! It is going to be saved for Disney! I am praying for awesome weather :)

I LOVE all of the designs I have seen! The 101 Dalmations top is to die for! The Princess dress is so sweet! My girls would LOVE that! I have a toddler sheet in the same fabric. Hmm, i think I will make a dress out of it! lol

OKay I made this dress today. Let's see if anyone can guess what it was before it was a dress! lol, I am always using different things and turning them into clothing. I like "different" fabrics and they are so hard to find anymore. Even online :(

I love it. It looks like maybe a shower curtain or tablecloth?

Love that zebra outfit! Very cute!

OK, so yesterday was Crazy Hair day at the kids' school, so I feel the need to share!

Here's Caleb sporting his fauxhawk:
th_crazyhaircaleb.jpg

and here's Ella - her hair is naturally on the crazy side, so I tried to just pouf it out as much as I could.
th_crazyhairella.jpg

They are too cute!! Crazy hair day would be awesome!!!

here is the zebra outfit on. It is a little big, but should fit by Nov.

DSC00418.jpg

BTW I would love instructions for Ireland's sock curls too. Her hair is always sooo cute!

Love this!!! I am going to have to remember this for our next trip -- whenever that might be!

This is not finished yet - I still have to go buy buttons for it. i am going to share the pictures anyway since dd wanted me to take pictures of her as soon as I got her to try it on. I use McCalls 3949 for the dress, and I really like how it turned out.

Sooo cute!!!

I haven't caught up on the last few days, so sorry I'm skipping so much! But, here's what I've been working on. These 5 shirts are for Tessa and my nieces to wear when my mom wears her pink Mickey button-up shirt.
Sorry it's so blurry:
th_DSC07466Small.jpg

Tessa modeling hers (come on, you didn't think I could just post ONE picture! :rotfl:):
th_DSC07474Medium.jpg

I thought at first you had made a bunch of doll shirts! lol The shirts look great and Tessa looks adorable!

I feel like such a slacker. I have been reading and not commenting, sorry. I am loving the different things people are posting though. I feel blah, just no energy at all.

We have our school carnival tomorrow and I am donating this for the silent auction. I made a practice one and gave it to Megan, so that's why it looks familiar. I told a friend of mine to bid on it (I made it her daughter's size) so my feelings wouldn't get hurt if no one liked it.

It is Carla's sweet dress jumper top with Carla's a-line attached.

th_IMG_0433.jpg

I couldn't decide how to do the bottom so I decided to learn how to make knife pleats. It didn't take any longer than a regular ruffle and I thought it looked more grown up for a size 6 sundress. The only problem is I ended up with way too much ruffle left over! It was ok, I used it on the matching purse.

Ok, a question. I bought this thing off of Disney shopping and the description said "dress" but whenever Megan wears it my husband asks why she is wearing her nightgown. So, please vote: is this a dress or nightgown? It is knit but ties in the back.

Great dress and bag -- great job!

alright. here's the rough draft of my giselle outfit.
I'm holding the underskirt (pink and white part) because I haven't finished them.

Yes, I am in my tub. It's the easiest place to take pictures.
giselle2.jpg

Lookin' good -- can't wait to see it finished!

I finally made something for DD! It's a pair of PJs for a sleepover that she is going to this weekend (plus matching headband...thanks for the link!). You can't see the details too well in this picture but the top has a ruffle along the bottom.
th_DSC05572.jpg

Here's a close-up of the fabric. I just love this print!

I was just in my Hancock's this morning but didn't see any of that. That is super cute and definitely a traveling outfit!!!

I love this! The colors a GREAT! Great job! I'm thinking the fabric is from a curtain panel or a shower curtain.

I used the top half of the portrait peasant top and the bottom half of the a-line jumper, both by CarlaC. I didn't put elastic in the sleeves, to give it a flirty sleeve (had nothing to do with the fact that I'm really lazy).

These are so cute. You need to post a pic after they are all wearing their shirts together!

I just finished my 1st sewing class (Im such the novice still:lmao: ) but this is exactly what I wanted to make for my twin girls for our trip this fall, can you tell me how you made the mickey head? I was looking for zebra or leopard fabric to do mine but Im scared:scared1: lol!

Anyway, Ive been following this amazing thread since I found it a few days ago & figured nows as good a time as any to jump in & say hi even though I only have a pair of elastic waist pj bottoms & a sundress under my belt!:flower3:

Um, I don't know why she looks like that. We were off to our favorite restaurant, you can tell because she has her bucket of naked barbies to keep her occupied!

Ohhhh, Elisa!

It is a dress. We sell it at our store and it doesn't have the tag that the pj's have. People ask all the time if they are pjs.

What she forgot to do is to clip the bobbin thread on the back side of the design. What you need to do is cut the bobbin thread on the back of the design and then on the right side gently lift up the "hair" so it is loose. If you PM me your email address I can send you a picture of where you would cut the threads. Nana

Thank you for the link for the futon covers I'll see if I feel brave enough to tackle that project....

Today I have the most horrible migraine headache, I've been taking excedrin by the handful, but decided to do some sewing ...headache, vomit and all...(sorry to be so graphic:scared1:)

I was able to complete a sundress for myself and another handbag for a friend (this handbag business is now getting out of control as "friends" call me for a free custom made handbag BTW with special request:confused3 ...the nerve of some people :sad2: )

The fabric for the sundress I bought it for 1.00 a yard, my husband said that it looked like curtain fabric:confused3 so now I am self conscious about it,
will you wear this in public...
