We just got back inside from playing outside with the neighborhood children. Some of those kids are just too wild and none of the parents watch their children. I like that DD has some kids to play with (she's an only child), but I don't think that I can let her play outside without an adult around. I'm afraid that the other parents might think that I am stuck up for not letting DD out to play without me their. The other children kept saying it's ok, but being outside I noticed that there was a man that kept walking around. I had never seen this guy before and I really didn't know how to take this guy. Am I being paranoid? or am I normal??

I have some aqua ric-rac on top of the jumper, so tying that in down below would create a nice balance. At first, I was thinking the raspberry color for whatever I do, but it wouldn't work with the aqua ric rac. And the flarry crop pants are going to be in the raspberry print so trim in the same color wouldn't contrast enough. I want it to be sort of funky (but hand-washable). I should do some mock-ups and see which looks the best.

I'm not sure what a serger ruffle is. Is it having the bottom of the single layer ruffle serged (or in my case overcasst?) or is it that rouching (sp) or double sided ruffle?

Why don't you take 2 colors of ricrack and twist them together?

Here's Gabi's new outfit, she'll probably wear a tee shirt under the top when we go to Disney as she is so pale and burns so easily. I also am making them a bit big for now as we don't go until September :)

Love the pictures and the outfits. what emb machine do you use for your appliques?

Sounds like you made the right choice. Thats great your dd has already made friends at her new school. I cant believe the old school did nothing. the teacher should have been talking to you. Smart choice to move her! :cool1: And YEAH for getting back in your clothes!!!
They just ignored it! The teacher did what she could and she is the nicest lady ever! The principal is an idiot!

Eeyore- I feel your pain. I had a similar problem with DD's previous school. But our issue was with the teacher. Her teacher kept telling me what a trouble maker Jenna was. She said she was always talking in class and not doing her work. Well Jenna never brought home anything lower than a B and never brought home anything that was incomplete. Well one day her teacher calls and says that she can't deal with Jenna any more. I asked her what was wrong and she said that Jenna was talking in class too much and she thinks that Jenna is developmentally behind. My daughter was on the A/B honor roll the entire time that she was in that school. Come to find out Jenna was bored. She would get done with her work and get bored with listening to the same thing over and over again. This teacher was teaching almost the same curiculum that Jenna had in Kindergarten. Well since changing her school she has been so happy. She gets A's in conduct every week and she was behind at first but she has quickly caught up.

I think sometimes we have to do the hard thing of moving them to do the right thing for them. did that make sense! Sometimes some schools are just not a good fit for certain kids!

Let me say everyones outfits are fabulous the last day and a half. I have been a little absent , life has been busy.
too make a long - very long - story short.
My oldest Anastasia (7)has gone to private school for the past 4 years. since 3 yr preschool! And since Kindy year (last year) she has had one girl picking on her. calling her ugly, stupid. the usuall bad name things. then she started pushing her. Last tuesday there was a field trip to a zoo. I did not go - i usually do - but a friend went w/ her daughter and told me how this other girl just taunted anastasia. well I guess after a couple of minutes anastasia lashed out and told her to "shut up, stop picking on me!" then the little girl told the teacher how anastasia was yelling at her and being mean. well the parent stepped in and told what "really" happened. I call the school the next day and yeall and say how they should have solved this last year, why does a parent tell me thins and not the school. So that was Wed. Well I went in her room that night and read her diary. it tore my heart out. Anastasia has such a small worth of her self, saying she is stupid, she needs to be better so the girl will like her etc! WOW! So thursday I call again. That night she came home and said how the principal told her to be friends and play nice! I told her"you don't have to be friends with that girl!" she says the principals says she has to! I had enough. did not send the girls friday! Called a new school and they were so nice about it and agreed to accept her if she passed a test!
They called friday at lunch and said it was the highest they have seen on an entrance test in years and they would be happy to have her! They are a charter school with an accelerated learning like the private school!
I disenrolled monday and she started tuesday!
My baby is so happy now. She was happy when she came home tuesday and she made friends with a girl and she gave her a welcome to our school card! I am just so happy that this seems like the right thing. What was I spending that $9,000 for this year! To pick on my kid and do nothing! We are out of there! Jojo goes to there preschool and will for the last 7 weeks of school!
So last night she asks when I wil lstart sewing for her now. I told her she said she did not want me to anymore! Well I guess that girl thought she was ugly in my clothes!!!! So that mean girl influenced everything and I am glad she is out of that school!!

Lori

Kirsta goes to a Charter School. The "specialty" is Greek. It's only a few years old, and already has a waiting list. I never thought about it, but i was told that it will be a big help to her when she goes to college as alot of terms are greek related. She's in 1st grade and takes a greek and computer classes. She's good in Math and is learning fundamentals in fractions and greek. The down side is that she has to wear a dang uniform.

My sister had trouble with a bully in HS. She was studying Karate and a brown belt at the time. She had made her name into many Karate magazines from winning several Grand Champions over black belts. Anyway, my Dad had called the school about these 2 boys. And as you can guess, nothing was done about it. She finally got fed up and threw one of the boys over her shoulder. (she's only 4ft 10). The school called my Dad in and wanted to have my sister punished. He asked the Principal what the school did about the matter when they called. He told my Dad nothing, but that wasn't the issue. Dad said, 'well, she took care of it herself" and got up and left. I thought harassement was supposed to be illegal. So why don't schools do something about it?

Hey everyone! I am fairly new to the DISboards. My name is Danielle, I'll be 23 next month. My husband is in the army and is currently deployed. I have a 19 month old little girl named Violette Bleu and we live in Fayetteville NC. We are planning our trip to disneyworld for Sept when my husband comes home for his R&R. I love boutique clothes and have been making tutu dresses for my daughter Violette. That's the only thing I know how to make. I don't know how to use a sewing machine but really want to learn. I want to make Violette some cute little sundresses and outfits for the trip. Can't wait to chat with you ladies. You seem like a fun group!

Are you staying at Shades of Green? I stayed there a few years ago when my sisters family went down. BIL was on R&R from Air Guard.

I made the fully lined, reversible version of the Butterick 5019 pattern (altered)
This is some of the Hobby Lobby fabric I've been  about!

Now, here's where y'all can help me. I want to do something crazy and fun at the hem like hand-washable pom pom fringe. What do you think? I ran out of the darker print to do her pants with so I need to go back to HL soon!!

So far the bottom hem is just overcast stitched so it wont unravel. I'm thinking FUN trim because this is not from my "Everyday Collection". I love it so much I don't want her to wipe her boogers on it or get any food on it. WHY am I like this? :sad2: I'll have to think of a great occasion for which she can wear it!

here's my "invention". The patten calls for a little button in strap to hold thefront tight, I didn't like if very much so I made a little elastic strip instead!

I have that fabric, btw!

Thank You Kell and Georgia!!
Luke loves his Madagascar (or as he used to call it (oscar oscar) p.j.s In fact they turned out so cute I'll let him wear them for "everyday clothes" if he wants (like right now because he won't take them off).

Yikes! Looks like someone's hair needs a trim. Why does it take a photo for me to realize this? :confused3 Poor boy can hardly see :rotfl:

So I'm officially addicted to this forum. I've been coming back and forth to it all day. I've been looking through old posts of outfits and I'm getting so much inspiration. I'm going to go ahead and buy that sewing machine. Hopefully I will catch on quickly...haha...I love all the cute tiered skirts. I'd love to make a minnie themed skirt and top for violette's character breakfast.

I was going to reply to your post on the used machine and forgot. I got a used singer YEARS ago and just recently bit the dust. I think I paid $75 for it then. When starting out, you'll probably only do the basics. I did. Do you have a local sewing shop? Not a Joannes. They usually sell used machines. But for $50. Heck, give it a try. Good luck. Love your tutu's BTW.

LOVE the shamrock and ladybugs. Cute frog halteralls.

Okay, I haven't been on in a while, and I definatally haven't had any time to sew. Im still trying to whipp up something with the nemo book panel I won here.

Since were all family, im going to share some personal obstacles were trying to conqure with my oldest DD.

She is 8. We adopted her at 13 months. Diagnosed as ADHD, high anxiety, Bi-polar, and many underline small things such as sensory, fine gross motor, vistibular, propreoceptive delays, Learning disabled, .... ( god I love her ). Anyway for the last month or so she has thought worms have invaded her body. She thinks they are in her hair, she is litarally pulling her hair out. She has them on her skin and scratches and often scrubbs too hard in the shower. Due to anxiety ab out the "worms" she broke out in hives on both arms and the trunk of her body (front and back), she is trying not to go number 2 because her boo boo has worms in it, and she is scared. She is biting her fingers/nails down till they blead to help the worms out. She also has scratched one of her wrist to a big bloody scab. We have been to the psychologist twice a week, psychiatrist every other week, and we go to a peer group once a week when we have been peeking in on the nurse. We also have visited the family doctor (of course). Her meds were increased 1 1/2 percent. She was percribed a lotion for the hives. We have to change bed sheets every night just so she feels comfortable enough to sleep because she thinks the worms are in her sheets. I put some shampoo in a cough syrup bottle and she thinks it's magic worm killing shampoo. I spray water on the sheets because it's magic spray to kill the worms. We switched to all free and dove white. We also had to go to a plain white dryer sheet. (till the hives are gone). I have been so busy. But the good news, today she told me that the worms havent been around as much. :thumbsup2 What a relief!

Thanks for letting me share. I've been so frusterated, and the time change messes us all up and threw us for a loop. We'll get it together...hopefully soon.

Michelle,
I'm so sorry for what your daughter is going through. You do not have to answer me but I wanted to make sure the the psychiatrist has considered a low dose antipsychotic. Sometimes children with anxiety will have intrusive thoughts like you are describing and the antipsychotic will help stop the thought. Our Child psych (I supervise two children programs in a community mental health center) uses abilify a lot with children your daughter's age.
Good luck to you and prayers for DD.
Susan

No, I think you are doing the right thing. I personally view it as the parent's responsibility to supervise their children when the children are playing. If it's in a friend's fenced yard and the friend is watching them than you may not need to be there, but these days it is harder to let your child just wander. I used to play flashlight tag outside with all the neighborhood kids as a child, these days it's harder to feel safe allowing that sort of freedom to a child.

Love the pictures and the outfits. what emb machine do you use for your appliques?

I use a Brother Innovis 1000 for all of my sewing and embroidery. I'm hoping for a serger for Mother's day ;)

Thanks. I love making things for my DD to wear. Tutus are the only thing I know how to make..lol..No sewing is involved really, just a few hand stitches for the flowers and elastic band. The are so easy.

Oh Lori this is terrible! Some kids are such bullies, and the bad thing is that they are learning this behavior at home, so it is usually no good to talk with the parents! You did the right thing for her and I am glad she is happier!

Here are some pics of our WDW trip in February. The don't showcase my masterpieces :lmao: very well. I don't think about how the clothes will look in the pictures until I'm back home. The weather was wonderful – upper 70’s to mid 80’s every day.

Wendy & Peter Pan. DS2's first encounter with the characters on this trip. He wasn't scared of them! Whoohoo! The last time, he was terrified. DD6 and DD4 are wearing dresses my sister made. DS2 is wearing shorts I made. I also made the shirt, but he insisted on wearing his Mickey sweatshirt most of our stay.

At Tusker House. DDs are wearing their Tinker Bell dresses. I made these last summer.

NORMAL!!!!! You can never be to cautious when it comes to your children, IMO! People are too deviant these days and you can't trust just anyone!

I am fixing to applique the Incredibles logo onto a shirt and I can't decide what colors to do.

Here is the logo:

The_Incredibles.jpg

Would you---
a.) go around the whole thing in black
b.) go around all of the "i" in yellow and both swirls in orange (that would do the whole applique)
c.) or do something else. If this is your answer -- what would you do?

I have the applique ironed on the shirt except for the white dot. I have one cut out but I didn't iron it on yet. I don't think it needs it and nowhere else in the whole outfit is there any white. Would you go ahead and add it or leave it off?

Thanks ladies!!!!

Is there anyone near a Hancock that can run on over the weekend for 99c Buttericks? I don't live near one, but I really want to get a few and try to get some things made. I may even use my machine! :scratchin
Please pm me, to work something out.

I 'm sorry if this is a double post. I thought I hit enter but then when I went looking I couldn't find myself!

Hi All...I'm just posting to subscribe to this thread, I don't want to miss anything! LOL. I've been reading Disboards for a long time, but never looked at this thread before...for some reason I thought it was a shopping thread!:confused3 But now that I know it is a sewing thread....:cool1: I'll be reading all the time!!

I love the adorable outfits that you've all been making for your kids (and yourselves). I'm not a huge garment sewer, but I am a heavy duty quilting addict!!

I have an 11 yo DD anda 5 yo DS. When DD was little I made her a few outfits, but I think that now she wouldn't be caught dead in something I could make. I just pointed out a picture I saw with a cute dress made from a tank top and she said "NO WAY". Sigh. Oh well.

I'd say b) and leave the white dot off. I don't even remember seeing it before.

Yes, we are staying at SOG. It's $89/night and since my husband will be on R&R we get 20% off of that. It's too good of a deal to pass up and such a short distance to the monorail! I can't wait!
