Disboutiquers part 3 (Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes)

There's a really easy way to make pants with or without a side seam, as long as it's for a kid, or pajama pants. :)

To make pants with a side seam:

Cut 4 rectangles of fabric. The measurements are:

Width: 1/4 the hip measurement (Or waist measurement, whichever's bigger) of the person the pants are for plus 2.5" (3.5" for an adult)

Length: Outseam measurement (waist to ankle) plus 2.5"

Put two rectangles right sides together and cut a "J" out of one top-side of both rectangles. The J should be about 9-10" high and 2" deep. Similar to the cut out of a peasant top arm-hole. (does this make sense??)

sew the "j"'s together.

Do the same thing on the other 2 rectangles.

Open up both sets, and line up the pants with the J's in the center, and sew up one leg and down the other. Then sew together the ouside seams.

Turn under .5" at the top ans sew down, then turn under 1" and sew that down leaving room for elastic (or a waistband). use 3/4" elastic or a drawstring fo the waistband.

Hem legs.

For Side seam free pants:

Make TWO rectangles, the same length as above and twice the width as above.

Put the two rectangles right sides together and cut the "j"'s on BOTH top corners of the rectangles.

Sew both sets of J's together.

open up the pants with the J's lined up in the middle, and sew up the inside seams.

Do the waistband the same, and hem.

Clear as mud?

The pants are pretty unconstructed, and on adults can be prettty wide-legged. I do this for all of my kids pants and shorts.

I hope this wasn't too confusing. The "j" is harder to explain than it is to do.

Here they are!

Adorable!!!

Ack, I was attempting to copy an image for you but no such luck.

Got some Simplicity patterns at Walmart last night using the Hancock (or was it JoAnn's?) ad. My very favorites are the Daisy Kingdom ones. I bought #2994 (which I'll do both views) and #2988 for a Pooh dress. The image on the pattern envelope shows the illustrated girl wearing green CROCS with a jibbitz :bitelip:

I'll keep trying to copy and post them, but I think I'm not having much luck.

I bought number 2994 last week. It is so cute isn't it!

BTW, I noticed the green Crocs too:rotfl2:

Hey everyone! So, I know I've been MIA for a LONG time. I've really missed you guys and all your cute kiddos! And your creativity!

Here's the reader's digest version - we've been trying to get our house ready to put on the market (gotten most major projects done, but still need to do some minor projects), trying to find a new house, praying like crazy that when we do put our house on the market, that it will acutally sell, and well, working and trying to be a good mom. Oh, and potty training - which really wasn't all that bad - we bought princess and tinkerbell panties and discussed that tinkerbell and the princesses did not like to get wet or dirty, and that was pretty much that. Lucky, I know. But it worked!

I keep saying that I need to make it a point to come and hang out here for a while, especially since DD and I are going to see Princesses on Ice at the end of March and she, of course, needs a custom. And will need some inspiration!! Hopefully, I will remember how to sew! I haven't even touched my machines since before our vacation in Dec!

Oh, and I've got a job interview on Wednesday for a job that I think I really want, but it's full time (I'm just part-time now.) So that means more work, and sending the kids to daycare full-time, although Caleb will start kindy in the fall and Ella will be 3 soon, and they both do love daycare (it's more like pre-school.) But I also wonder if they like it so much because they only go two days a week? BUT it will be NORMAL hours! No more nights, which may just save my sanity and health! It's gotten harder and harder to work nights, even only part time. So, if you think about it, say a little prayer that all goes well on Wed and that I get the job.

Whew, sorry I rambled on for so long!

1) On her Disney day of the week underwear, Marie is on Tuesday. That is the whole reason why she wanted the dress and she wants to wear it on Tuesday to match.

That is SO funny! And sweet!!!! I'm sure if Lydia knew there were Marie undies out there, she would have to have them!
2) Thank you! She got lots of compliments at church. It was a newish church so she got a little shy and wasn't her usual self until the Sunday School teacher asked if she could twirl in it. How did she know that was the key to unlock Megan's inner diva?
Awww, sweet!
3) Nooooo, they supplied us with top of the line sergers to play on. They were so nice and they offered a discount if you bought one right there, they were only $1,199! :rotfl: My mom was thinking about it until she saw the price, and then she said no thanks!

They were super nice and quiet! We had 20 sergers going at one time and the teacher could easily talk over us. It was unreal.

That's just $1149 than I paid for mine!!! But, mine isn't very quiet! I am still struggling to get the tension right on my machine. I HATE adjusting tension!!!

As far as the pink polka dot goes, this is the closest I have ever seen:

pinkminniedot.jpg

It is not the biggest dot like the real Minnie dot but it is not the small stuff either. The dot is about the size of a nickel. This material was bought in 2004 but I am almost positive that I have seen it at Hobby Lobby (where this was purchased) every year since this was bought.

I will stay on the lookout for some.

For some reason, I didn't see your avatar when I started reading this and I thought you were Sugarbees. But, I thought to myself, "Boy, that looks like Parker!"

DUOH! And, is it bad that we can now recognize baby pictures of the kids on this thread? She has always been a cutie pie, I just want to hug her!

Those are such cute patterns!!! I saw someone on Ebay made a Holly Hobby outfit for an older girl from the halter style dress pattern. It was really cute.

Do you all think it will go on sale around Halloween again - seems nuts for me to pay $8-9 a yard for this - unless that is what it cost you all???

I don't know about the Michael Miller one, but it's been at Walmart around Halloween for a few years now.

I am wanting to surprise my daughter for her 7th bday and make her a skirt. I believe the name is called Pettitwirl. If I am right. has anyone made one and if so what type of material did you use? And for whoever saved me by taking this pic and posting it thank you times a million.

100_3146.jpg

If you are making it out of chiffon, it is supposedly very hard to do! Lisa made one for Zoe. She gave the website where she bought the chiffon, I think I might have bookmarked it.

I need opinions: do you think these are too "young" for a 10 year-old?

I just asked Arminda, and she said she would wear either one of the outfits, but she didn't like the dark colors that the dress was made out of. But, if it was pink, she would wear either one. She'll be 10 in May.

I saw this in a bigger size on Ebay awhile back, and it was pretty cute.

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have a nice totebag pattern that a 16 year old girl would like - maybe as a caryon?
thanks, wendy

I have a section of large section for bags in the bookmarks, you might find something there.

Here they are!

So glad to see you posting again Lori! I will be saying a little prayer for you that everything goes well!!! Will you still be in the NICU if you get the new job?

Here is what I whipped up today...She doesn't want pants, so I decided to just save the extra fabric incase she changes her mind.

wouldn't that give it two fronts and or backs on the same piece, instead of one on each side? does that make sense, or I am just a pattern dumby?

unfold your material, so the fold line is visable. put the front on one side of the fold, and the back on the other side. I have done this and taped the pattern pieces together. And cut it as one big piece.

I posted this a few pages back but didn't get an answer. And, since I saw that Teresa was on, I figured that she would probably know!

I was thinking that several pictures of a Prince Charming costume had been posted but I cannot find them in the photobucket account. Can anyone help me?

Yer so smart! I am so doing this!

Thanks! I'll be in the NICU, but not as a bedside nurse anymore. I would be the unit educator.

eeyore, all those halter outfits are just darling! Love all of them!

I KNEW there was something I was going to look for!!! Let me look around and I'll let you know if I find anything.

Heather is working on one for Sawyer at this very moment, and it is turning out C U T E!!!!!!! It looks just about done to me, so hopefully she will post it soon.

And, here's the picture, this is 1Prince3Princesses little boy.

Thanks Teresa! That's the one I was looking for! I even replied twice to that thread! hahaha!! I searched the Dis boards and the photobucket account but just couldn't find it!

I bout this pattern for Michael this weekend.

M5214.jpg

He picked the red one for me to make but he wanted the red pants and white shirt just like Prince Charming's. I also bought the material to make a cape for it just b/c he has a flare for the dramatics and he looooves capes!

you are talking about the pattern right? Do you think if I cut off the seam allowance from the sides and tape them together that would work, or no?

Right, I'm talking about the pattern pieces. :) Most pants patterns I've used don't have a straight edge on the side seam so I don't think you could tape them and get them to be flat. I just lay mine out and use weights to hold them in place.

I need opinions: do you think these are too "young" for a 10 year-old?

I think a lot depends on the fabric used.

He is going to look so cute in that! Yes, he will need a cape!
