Hi all! On the podcast at the end of the month there is always the Disboards Top Ten Threads of the Month. At first, I really liked seeing what were the most popular threads and what people were really interested in talking about. I really got hooked when Jess was first the Top Thread of the Month, and I went to check out her MEGA trip report (Which is AWESOME)!
Anyways, it seems that lately on the boards, the threads that are the most popular and are getting the most replies are ones about (obviously) FP+, how it affects people vacationing styles, and just information about FP+. I have noticed however that these threads are popular (and this might be a generalization) because they create heated discussion which results in arguments and back-handed comments between members. The boards are created for discussion, and I understand that, but I think that threads become extremely uninformative and unimportant when they go from discussion to argument based.
I see many short-lived threads on the boards that try to create legitimate discussion, and have respectful and informative replies. However, these threads never make the "top threads of the month" because they do not generate the frenzy that argumentative threads do. I enjoy reading threads like these (short-lived good discussion threads.) I love discussing with people and I also respect others opinions even when they are different from mine. I don't see the need to flat out attack one another.
I think it's frustrating that one can generate a controversial thread topic and title to match, post polarizing and harsh comments, receive argumentative replies, and have the thread go crazy and turn into a "Disboards Top Thread"
Obviously, if the thread isn't a popular thread by stats, it's not a top thread of the month. I don't think that there is a way to change that fact. However, I think it would be nice to hear on the podcast about other threads that the podcasters might find interesting and informative/ good discussion oriented. It doesn't have to be a "top" anything categorized. I would love to hear their opinions on some of the happenings on the boards, or things that they find interesting. I think it would be cool to have a "Podcaster's Choice" list so I can go and find interesting threads that I can participate in normal discussions (and not just arguments
) I love the DIS and it helps sooo much to feed my Disney Obsession.
