Ok a bit melodramatic but now that we have your attention we need some help.

Tonight we finished off the last of our 'Amazin' Cornbread' from the House of Blues and we are already feeling the withdrawal symptoms.

Having looked at the ingredients we can get them all with the exception of the cornmeal.

Any ideas on which shops in the uk might sell it or what it is made of to make our own? Even better if you know where you can buy cornbread mix (without importing it from the HOB website).

Please let us know and thanks in advance.

Okay you two, my hear missed a beat when I saw your thread  ......... cornmeal....... hmmmm - this might be a case for the Supershopper!

COOOEEEE JANICE!!!

............comes rushing in and SCREECHES to a halt.................

Hiya :teeth: :teeth:

I have this little conversion table that might be of help - but I'll see what else I have stored away :)

Technical stuff for cooking

I'll be back soon.......

I've found it!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can buy it online here:

www.goodnessdirect.co.uk

Put cornmeal in their search and it comes up with different size packets, click on one of those and eh voila!!! It's in your 'shopping cart' :teeth:

OR apparently health food stores sell it :)

I use polenta - the dried stuff - to make them. Tesco sell it, think it is by Dunn's River and it is in a bright red bag and is 49p. Just saw it tonight!

Where could I get the recipe for the cornbread at Trails End Buffet? They had some of the best I've ever had! I can't wait to go back for more!!!

You guys don't have cornmeal? I love cornbread, with lots of butter. Yumyum.

Have another foodie question. Do you guys eat corn-on-cob? I ask because some German friends of ours think it's so funny that we eat corn like this, or that we eat corn at all. They feed corn to the cows and pigs. They laugh at our corn, but they love our baked beans.

:) Thanks guys, what a fountain of information you are. Janice you are the font of all cookery knowledge - we bow down to you.

We have often seen polenta but wasn't sure what it was. Now on our way to buy some.

Olaf - yes we do eat corn on the cob here. In fact we even BBQ it but to eat it best is straight off the plant. Having spent 4 years in Germany and still having German friends they have no room to talk about eating wierd food e.g. Pumpernickel LOL ;)

Yeah we eat corn-on-cob. I particularly love it with lots of butter oozing all over it. Sweetcorn is one of my favourite starch veggies :)

.......LOVE corn on the cob from the BBQ with melted butter!!

I love Corn on the Cob too - lots of butter and a sprinkling of black pepper!!! Delish.

phorsenuf - have you enquired on the Cooking Forum here or the Restaurants Forum here? You may find someone on either of these forums has the recipe :)

Well, it's refreshing to know we're not the only ones who eat corn au natural.

When we lived in Ohio, we'd get some corn that was grown locally called Silver Queen or white corn. It was the absolute best corn-on-the-cob I've ever had!

One of my favorite meals: southern fried chicken, mashed potatoes with cream gravy, corn on the cob, baked beans (lots of bacon&brown sugar), and watermelon for dessert! Yikes, I can feel my arteries clogging as I type this.

sounds absolutley divine - when we were on the cruise they served an American buffet for lunch one day and I was in seventh heaven with all the above foods. I try to think that my arteries aren't getting that clogged up when I eat this meal as I'm not eating red meat ;) I know I'm indenial LOL!
