Today we slept in and then headed to Blizzard Beach (it was 83 degrees this day). I did not take any pictures of the food. No place to put a camera in your swimsuit (which is unfortunate because there was some interesting swim attire that I would have loved to have captured on film!
)
Anyway when we first arrived it was almost 11 so we grabbed a snack. We shared a dozen mini donuts. I highly recommend these if you are at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach! They are fried with sugar kind of like a round beignet. Not on the
DDP, but so worth every penny! Not sure if you can get these anywhere other than the water parks.

For lunch we ate at Lottawatta Lodge. Average CS fair. Burgers, chicken strips, fries, fish and chips and Mickey bars and soft serve ice cream. It was good. There are not many other places to eat at Blizzard Beach so this place had a large variety. Service was good. The lady who gave me our food said we could come back later to get our ice cream she offered, I did not ask. We ended up not making it back. I did see people walking around with BBQ sandwiches from somewhere that looked good and these huge sundaes in sand pails. Lottawatta Lodge

Dinner Kona Café
We went back to room, rested and dressed for Kona Café at the Polynesian. I was so excited about this adr. Great reviews, great menu, great resort! It did not disappoint. After uploading all the Kona pics, I realized that our party of 6 ate almost everything offered!
I only took a pic of DSs dessert, thought I took more of his meal, but I guess not. I asked if he could have fruit for an appetizer instead of soup or veggies. They said that was fine. He had mac and cheese with fries for entrée. Pretty easy to picture, huh?
Bread Kona and Le Cellier are the only two restaurants that served bread. We all thought that was kind of unusual. This bread was incredible! Soft and moist on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside. The dipping sauce was olive oil and you know that seasoning stuff that looks like pepper, grass, and small pine needles. But it tasted great! I am pretty sure we ordered seconds on the bread.
Appetizers
Lump Crab Cakes - pan-seared lump crab cakes with Asian tartar and pineapple relish DH ordered this and loved it. He allowed me a small taste (they were not very big and I think there were only 3 on the plate). You could really taste and see the crab meat. One of the best appetizers.
Kona Salad - Gourmet greens, Maytag blue cheese, Florida strawberries, red onions, and smoked almonds with a citrus vinaigrette I love a good salad, especially one with blue cheese and almonds! DMIL and I ordered this. It had pears in it too, must have replaced the strawberries. I liked it even better than Ohanas salad. Best salad of the week!
Creamy Kona Seafood Chowder - creamy bisque style with shrimp, fish and crabmeat DD and DFIL ordered this. I know that my DD enjoyed it, I think she finished it. I tried it and wrote in my notes that I did not like it because it was too strong. I dont know exactly what I meant and I cant remember what it tasted like. Maybe too fishy?
Entrees
Macadamia Mahi Mahi - served with mushroom rice, sauteed bok choy, lime-butter sauce and crispy fried onions DMIL (I think) and I ordered this. I knew 3 months ago that this was what I would order. I love a good Mahi Mahi and that is hard to find. This was so good! The risotto with the mushroom sauce was creamy and wonderful. The crispy onions on top were great! I would order this again for sure!
Char Crusted Filet Mignon - mashed yukon gold potatoes, asparagus and a 5-spice mushroom sauce DD ordered this and loved it! I tried it too (as the dining critic it was my job to try everyones selections). The steak was cooked perfectly (she ordered medium rare), very tender. Mushroom sauce was great DD hates mushrooms but loved this. She doesnt like asparagus, so I ate most of it very good!
Beef Teriyaki - 10 ounce sirloin strip, grilled with pineapple teriyaki sauce, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, and stir-fried broccoli florets DFIL and DH ordered this. Okay, we all agreed that this was the best entrée of the night. Dont get me wrong, all the entrees were good. But the teriyaki sauce on this steak gave it such a good flavor. (Remember I like sweet sauces, so this was wonderful to me) The steak was large and well-cooked (DH also ordered medium rare). Almost as tender as the filet. Yum!
Desserts (finally) Cant remember who ordered what so I will guess and use the pics!
The presentation of all the food was beautiful, but the desserts were exceptionally well plated. (I love to watch Top Chef dont I sound like a real food critic). I need to start saying stuff like the flavors just pop in your mouth!
Kilauea Torte - an explosion of warm liquid chocolate inside a brownie volcano DD ordered this. We had such a great server. He spent time explaining all the choices to us and he told my DD the reason the torte is called Kilauea is because it is named after a volcano. This was good, but the chocolate is very dark. If you like dark chocolate really dark, you will love this. Very rich. It really needed some ice cream I gave her some of mine. Honestly, I thought LTTs chocolate cake was better.
White Chocolate Cheesecake - cheesecake with a perfect hint of white chocolate topped with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and a brandy snap DH ordered this. It was not very big, I was able to try a tiny taste. It was very rich and sweet. A little will do ya! My DH really enjoyed it. It looked beautiful. That thing behind the strawberries must be the brandy snap - didn't try this.
Chocolate Macadamia Nut Tart - chocolate tart shell with chunks of macadamia nut and chocolate served with vanilla ice cream and caramel rum sauce I ordered this one (also pre-selected). Do you see how huge it is? I barely put a dent in it. Very rich and heavy. Not very chocolatey, more like a rich nougat, nutty center (kind of like the filling of a pecan pie, but thicker). The sauce was good love caramel. And dont ya love my cute chocolate tree. Looked better than it tasted.
Kids sundae DS loved fixing his own sundae. Came with chocolate sauce, m&ms, and sprinkles. He ate many sundaes on the kids menus and this one was the best.
This is DS enjoying
sad2: ) his sisters dessert. This is right before he spit it out. Told you it was dark chocolate!
We all loved Kona. If I had to choose between Kona and Ohana, I would probably pick Kona. But it is so close! I liked the dessert at Ohana better and I loved their shrimp. But Kona had that great bread, wonderful appetizers and amazing entrees. The service was better too, not so rushed. The waiter actually talked to us. Oh, the coffee was the best of the week! Very good.

Tomorrow I will try to post 2 days worth of dining! Next installment: Cantina de San Angel, School Bread, Gelatos, and Boma. I forgot about Boma this is a long installment because I took notes while I ate about every thing on my plate (yes, my family loved this!) So it may just be one installment tomorrow but a good one!
