Disappearing Peep Ditches Diet on the DDP! Lots of Pics! - Completed pg. 11!

I probably shouldn't have opened this thread because now I'm starving!! Thanks for making my mouth water.

Still enjoying your dining review. Cant wait for more. I, also, love love love dessert. I could skip the meal and go straight to the dessert menu. (That was pre -disappearing peep)

Excellent:thumbsup2

Why does that one word response conjure images of Mr. Burns steepling his fingers and giving one of his evil grins? :confused3

Beats me, but I must agree that Stacey's got a way with food porn.

Today we slept in and then headed to Blizzard Beach (it was 83 degrees this day). I did not take any pictures of the food. No place to put a camera in your swimsuit (which is unfortunate because there was some interesting swim attire that I would have loved to have captured on film! :scared1: )

Anyway when we first arrived it was almost 11 so we grabbed a snack. We shared a dozen mini donuts. I highly recommend these if you are at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach! They are fried with sugar – kind of like a round beignet. Not on the DDP, but so worth every penny! Not sure if you can get these anywhere other than the water parks. A

For lunch we ate at Lottawatta Lodge. Average CS fair. Burgers, chicken strips, fries, fish and chips and Mickey bars and soft serve ice cream. It was good. There are not many other places to eat at Blizzard Beach so this place had a large variety. Service was good. The lady who gave me our food said we could come back later to get our ice cream – she offered, I did not ask. We ended up not making it back. I did see people walking around with BBQ sandwiches from somewhere that looked good and these huge sundaes in sand pails. Lottawatta Lodge – B.

Dinner – Kona Café
We went back to room, rested and dressed for Kona Café at the Polynesian. I was so excited about this adr. Great reviews, great menu, great resort! It did not disappoint. After uploading all the Kona pics, I realized that our party of 6 ate almost everything offered!
I only took a pic of DS’s dessert, thought I took more of his meal, but I guess not. I asked if he could have fruit for an appetizer instead of soup or veggies. They said that was fine. He had mac and cheese with fries for entrée. Pretty easy to picture, huh?

dispic2123.jpg

Bread – Kona and Le Cellier are the only two restaurants that served bread. We all thought that was kind of unusual. This bread was incredible! Soft and moist on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside. The dipping sauce was olive oil and you know that seasoning stuff that looks like pepper, grass, and small pine needles. But it tasted great! I am pretty sure we ordered seconds on the bread.

dispic2124.jpg

Appetizers
Lump Crab Cakes - pan-seared lump crab cakes with Asian tartar and pineapple relish – DH ordered this and loved it. He allowed me a small taste (they were not very big and I think there were only 3 on the plate). You could really taste and see the crab meat. One of the best appetizers.

dispic2125.jpg

Kona Salad - Gourmet greens, Maytag blue cheese, Florida strawberries, red onions, and smoked almonds with a citrus vinaigrette – I love a good salad, especially one with blue cheese and almonds! DMIL and I ordered this. It had pears in it too, must have replaced the strawberries. I liked it even better than Ohana’s salad. Best salad of the week!

dispic2126.jpg

Creamy Kona Seafood Chowder - creamy bisque style with shrimp, fish and crabmeat – DD and DFIL ordered this. I know that my DD enjoyed it, I think she finished it. I tried it and wrote in my notes that I did not like it because it was too strong. I don’t know exactly what I meant and I can’t remember what it tasted like. Maybe too fishy?

dispic2127.jpg

Entrees

Macadamia Mahi Mahi - served with mushroom rice, sauteed bok choy, lime-butter sauce and crispy fried onions – DMIL (I think) and I ordered this. I knew 3 months ago that this was what I would order. I love a good Mahi Mahi and that is hard to find. This was so good! The risotto with the mushroom sauce was creamy and wonderful. The crispy onions on top were great! I would order this again for sure!

dispic2130.jpg

Char Crusted Filet Mignon - mashed yukon gold potatoes, asparagus and a 5-spice mushroom sauce – DD ordered this and loved it! I tried it too (as the dining critic it was my job to try everyone’s selections). The steak was cooked perfectly (she ordered medium rare), very tender. Mushroom sauce was great – DD hates mushrooms but loved this. She doesn’t like asparagus, so I ate most of it – very good!

dispic2129.jpg

Beef Teriyaki - 10 ounce sirloin strip, grilled with pineapple teriyaki sauce, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, and stir-fried broccoli florets – DFIL and DH ordered this. Okay, we all agreed that this was the best entrée of the night. Don’t get me wrong, all the entrees were good. But the teriyaki sauce on this steak gave it such a good flavor. (Remember I like sweet sauces, so this was wonderful to me) The steak was large and well-cooked (DH also ordered medium rare). Almost as tender as the filet. Yum!

dispic2128.jpg

Desserts (finally) Can’t remember who ordered what so I will guess and use the pics!

The presentation of all the food was beautiful, but the desserts were exceptionally well plated. (I love to watch Top Chef – don’t I sound like a real food critic). I need to start saying stuff like “the flavors just pop in your mouth!”

Kilauea Torte - an explosion of warm liquid chocolate inside a brownie volcano – DD ordered this. We had such a great server. He spent time explaining all the choices to us and he told my DD the reason the torte is called Kilauea is because it is named after a volcano. This was good, but the chocolate is very dark. If you like dark chocolate – really dark, you will love this. Very rich. It really needed some ice cream – I gave her some of mine. Honestly, I thought LTT’s chocolate cake was better.

dispic2135.jpg

dispic2138.jpg

White Chocolate Cheesecake - cheesecake with a perfect hint of white chocolate topped with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and a brandy snap – DH ordered this. It was not very big, I was able to try a tiny taste. It was very rich and sweet. A little will do ya! My DH really enjoyed it. It looked beautiful. That thing behind the strawberries must be the brandy snap - didn't try this.

dispic2131.jpg

Chocolate Macadamia Nut Tart - chocolate tart shell with chunks of macadamia nut and chocolate served with vanilla ice cream and caramel rum sauce – I ordered this one (also pre-selected). Do you see how huge it is? I barely put a dent in it. Very rich and heavy. Not very chocolatey, more like a rich nougat, nutty center (kind of like the filling of a pecan pie, but thicker). The sauce was good – love caramel. And don’t ya love my cute chocolate tree. Looked better than it tasted.

dispic2133.jpg

Kid’s sundae – DS loved fixing his own sundae. Came with chocolate sauce, m&m’s, and sprinkles. He ate many sundaes on the kids menus and this one was the best.

dispic2132.jpg

This is DS enjoying :-)sad2: ) his sister’s dessert. This is right before he spit it out. Told you it was dark chocolate!;)

dispic2137.jpg

We all loved Kona. If I had to choose between Kona and Ohana, I would probably pick Kona. But it is so close! I liked the dessert at Ohana better and I loved their shrimp. But Kona had that great bread, wonderful appetizers and amazing entrees. The service was better too, not so rushed. The waiter actually talked to us. Oh, the coffee was the best of the week! Very good. A

Tomorrow I will try to post 2 days worth of dining! Next installment: Cantina de San Angel, School Bread, Gelatos, and Boma. I forgot about Boma – this is a long installment because I took notes while I ate about every thing on my plate (yes, my family loved this!) So it may just be one installment tomorrow – but a good one!

Girl get ready to put on your flame-proof suit! You KNOW somebody is gonna blast you for this pic, but I LOVE it! HA! Please keep this pic around and show it to his date the night of his Senior Prom! :rotfl: Next to all of the FP (food porn) this was my favorite picture.

As for you report: I wanted to jump through the screen for the Mahi Mahi! It looks GREAT! And you're right, the dishes were well plated. (I'm a Top Chef fan also. Can't wait to see tonite's episode in Hawaii - I taped it)

After reading this part of your report, I may have to check out Kona Cafe' the next time I go!

Thanks for taking such great pics! Can't wait for the next part! popcorn::

Stacey........great installment! We LOVED Kona. Our family all agreed it was the best meal of the week. We took DS6 to the Neverland Club and had an "adult" dinner with our teenagers. I had crab cakes, mahi, and kilauea torte and loved it all. Must try the coffee next time (and Ohana if it is nearly as good as Kona.)

OT....were you glad you took the time to go to the water park? Been debating about that one.

This is a dangerous thread for me at almost 3am! You're slowly but surely heading me closer to being addicted to food porn! popcorn::

I love this picture. Can't wait for the next installment. I have always wondered about the school bread so I will now know.

Stacey great job I think you settled my dilemna isntead of O'Hana I think Dh aka Mr Fussy pants would fair much better here than Boma or O'Hana!

I would love to try the other 2 but you know being that he is paying for our trip I think it helps for our next trip hint hint if he just loves everywhere we take him!!!

There is a method to my madness....I think!

Great reviews not loving the desserts though look way to heavy for me.

Hmmm, I love the look of Kona. I definately have it down for a breakfast and am seriously thinking of going there for lunch on the day of my Wedding, but now I think I'm gonna have to rearrange my existing plan of my ADR's and squeeze it in for dinner somewhere, ah!!!!! It looks too good to pass up!

We did Kona 2 trips ago and absolutely loved it, everything we got was wonderful and this is one of our "must dos" for our trip in December, glad you guys enjoyed it so much!!

Enjoying your reviews.

Thank you! Are you a first timer at the Dis or at Disney World?

Just wonderful! Can't wait for the rest!!

Glad you are enjoying! I am having fun reliving it!

Glenda you better watch out, that could end up as a tag! ;) :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Glad you made it by! :flower3:

It would be a perfect tag!

I'm in here having a few calorie free cyber meals.:thumbsup2 I'm hungry again. What time is dinner?

Our family started our new diets when we returned from Disney. Doing the reports makes me hungry! But for the good of all, I am suffering through!

Great reviews and excellent pix....Can't wait for more!

More has been added. Boma will be a great review and I will add it tonight!

I probably shouldn't have opened this thread because now I'm starving!! Thanks for making my mouth water.

Sorry, but I hope you enjoyed! The food porn is calorie free! We can always join a support group. Glendamax will lead it for us!;)

Still enjoying your dining review. Cant wait for more. I, also, love love love dessert. I could skip the meal and go straight to the dessert menu. (That was pre -disappearing peep)

Yep, DH makes fun of me for checking out the dessert menu first!

Top Chef was great last night! I love that pic too. I have a good one of him trying the Beverly coke too (that one will be on the trip report). You must try Kona! Have a great day, girl!

OT....were you glad you took the time to go to the water park? Been debating about that one.

It was my DHs favorite. I am still a big Le Cellier fan and I loved Boma. The coffee was great at Kona.

This is a dangerous thread for me at almost 3am! You're slowly but surely heading me closer to being addicted to food porn! popcorn::

Yes, dangerous for me too. We made a new diet rule at our house - no snacking after 7:30. Writing a dining review at 10:30 makes that really hard!!

I love this picture. Can't wait for the next installment. I have always wondered about the school bread so I will now know.
Schoolbread was great. I hope I have a pic. I am pretty sure I do.

He will love Kona. Like I said, this was not my favorite dessert place. If they would let you eat and then run over to Ohana for dessert - perfect combination.

You will love it! When is your wedding? Are you getting married at Disney?

We did Kona 2 trips ago and absolutely loved it, everything we got was wonderful and this is one of our "must dos" for our trip in December, glad you guys enjoyed it so much!!

I think it will be repeater for us too.

I'm getting married on August 17th and my Ceremony will be at Sea Breeze Point, pics at The Grand Floridian, lunch at Kona's, dinner at V & A! First time at WDW, so am really excited. I'm on the free DDP for 14 nights, so am at present organising my ADR's, it's so hard to choose between all the places, they all look so good!

Our trip isn't until the week after Thanksgiving, but I'm already planning all our dining. It's been killing me, but it's been so much fun. I'm just imagining how much weight I'm going to gain on the DDP. Perhaps I should fast for about a month before we go.

I think we decided to pass on O'hana this time around. But I think we were going to do Boma, so I'm looking forward to that review.

Man that Mahi Mahi looks incredible. We may have to hit Konas. We are definately hitting 'Ohana's! Great pics and reviews. Love it!
