well, This is my first post, I wish i would have found this board several months before our trip instead of several days. We, My mother, my 15 yo daughter, 11, year old son,and 7 year old daughter just returned from a so so trip. I didnt' think you could have one of thoes. LOL My husband was there on business (staying at the gaylord palms) so I thought it would be a great family trip. My mom wanted to come and she decided to get a hotel closer (we thought) to the parks, it was somewhat closer, we stayed at the grosvener (grossvener) she wanted to stay at the cheapest place possible. We figured since it was on disney property it would be ok. Ha ok well they are trying doing renovations and such, but still. I have been used to staying at places like the gaylord, silly me thinking 68.00 a night place would be ok. anyhow sorry off track. Disney was ok, except all my younger kids wanted to do was swim. we wanted to go to the water parks, fun for us to find out it is off season and they close at 5 o'clock. My oldest daughter and I did get a couple of "dream fast passes" but could only use 2 of them because of the younger kids. And we were chosen to be the grand marshals of the family fun parade. The guy told us to meet someone at 12 noon and come to find out it really was 12:45-1:00 that they needed us there. We wasted a good hour and a half. He did apologize a lot, but could have offered us something to help ease the pain LOL like a bottle of water or something, but nothing. He was nice enough. I over bought passes we did the 4 day, with the magic your way where you could use the water park and dis. quest 3 times. well we did go to quest and that was Great!
I guess I just didnt' plan enough. I think if i go again I will only take one kid at a time! the kids did have fun i guess I was just dissapointed.

I'm sorry your trip didn't turn out as you wanted it to. It does look like there were some bright spots to talk about though! Being in the parade is something my kids would love, but never have been chosen Just stick around here, you'll know lots of stuff by the time your next trip rolls around.

Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear that your trip was disappointing. Disney World is such a huge place with so many attractions, resorts, shows etc etc etc it can be a minefield.

I probably shouldn't mention this now cause you might kick yourself but you could have added non-expiry to your tickets before coming home and used the remaining days and extras (water parks etc) at a future time. But it costs a bit to do that so perhaps it wouldn't have been worth it.

I really hope you give it another try some day and if you do, these boards are indeed a great source of information. Also the guide book The Unoffial Guide to Walt Disney World is fabulous and is full of wonderful info. You might also consider signing up to Tour Guide Mike for detailed information on the best days to go to each parks.

Look at this one as a trial run ;) and next time you'll have a blast. :thumbsup2 Oh and welcome to The DIS!!! :welcome:

I am sure I will give another try someday! You know the worst part was coming home to 40 degree weather! I had to turn my thermostat upt to 76 just to get warm!

LOL

I am sorry that things didn't turn out as you had hoped, but it sounds like your kids had a good time. I think as adults we want everything perfect and the kids are perfectly happy swimming all day in the pool enjoying the moment. For me, part of the 'magic' is suspending my adult status and experiencing the World as a kid. WDW offers so many experiences that once you choose one, you are almost disappointed as the selection is bound to limit your other options. I think some of your disappointment is you realize how much you missed! Perhaps next time each one of your children could pick 1 or 2 special things they'd like to do so each one has a choice in how your family spends vacation. Then you just focus on enjoying it and not worrying about what you might have missed.

Best of luck next time around!
