Disapointed in Port Orleans River side

I stayed there last week. Arrived Monday. We checked in and drove to our room. It was a total mess, not vacummed, floor wasn't mopped, and trash in the trash can. To top it off there was a fan blower which dries carpet going full blast in the room. I immediately called the front desk and they sent a guy in a golf cart to move us to "The Mansions".

I was expecting a real nice place. What mansion? Looked like a standard motel room to me. No internet access, which I knew that ahead of time but that is still disapointing.

The next day we trek off to the parks. My wife mistakenly left her jewlery and her watch in her purse(yes forgot about the safe).

She happened to look for these items that evening. Sure enough the maid stole every bit of it. Real nice disney service I'd say.

So all in all not a good first impression of Port Orleans Riverside. And just why do they call the upgraded rooms "Mansions" I don't get that one.

Regarding the food court there we had breakfast on Tuesday morning. Is it possible for them to hire people that understand english? Anyway, I had eggs, grits, sausage and an OJ. My wife had eggs grits, bacon, potatoes, and oj. This cost me $23! And it wasn't that good. Does anyone get the ripped off feeling at the food court there?

The Mansions are not upgraded rooms. They are the same rooms and the same price of any other room at POR. They are just called that as part of their themeing.

The "Mansions" are not upgraded rooms, sorry if you were led to believe they were. They are simply one of the facade styles that exist at that resort. The rooms themselves are pretty much identical in size and layout at every moderate resort, it's just the decorating that sets them apart.

POR is a motel style resort. It's a WDW moderate resort, with limited amenities. You knew there was no Internet access, although there is dial-up access using your laptop and ISP at every WDW resort, so I don't see that as a valid compaint. If you wanted a luxury room you should have booked a deluxe resort.

I agree you shouldn't have been put into a room that had incomplete housekeeping, this seems to be an issue that WDW still needs to work on throughout all their properties.

Not sure about the jewelry. While it's possible that it was stolen, it sounds like it might have been misplaced. At any rate, it should have been locked up, period. I see that as a problem on your end as much as WDW's. Now if it had been in the safe and the safe had been broken into, you'd have a very valid complaint. Personally I think most WDW housekeeping staff need to keep their jobs too much to be pilfering items from guests and run the risk of termination for it, along with a possible police prosecution and black mark on their employment record. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I do think that all too often guests lose or misplace items and are very fast to accuse housekeeping. Did you file a report on the "stolen" jewelry and file a claim with your homeowners?

Sorry your trip didn't go as smoothly as you would have liked, but I think some of the "issues" you ran into were caused by your own poor planning and carelessness.

As far as the food court goes, I don't think that the price you paid is higher than breakfast at any restaurant in any hotel--if anything it's a little low for a lot of places. Again, it seems that you could have used a variety of online tols to plan out and budget your trip if cost was a big concern to you.

Yes it was a mistake to leave jewelry in the room, but it was in fact stolen by a Disney employee, contrary to you implying that I made it up. As far as dial up internet access, I do not have a dial up modem, dialup is stone age.

And MANY people still use dialup. I work for a major international company and we are not using WiFi yet, it's felt that there are still some significant security risks with it, and that we could have some SOX complaince issues with some of our departments if we were to utilize this technology company wide.

There are WiFi hot spots in some of the deluxe hotels where it's felt that there will be a ROI on them. The moderates except CS do not generally attract business travelers, so there's not enough perceived ROI to wire them at this point.

If you needed a high speed connection you could have gone to the BW only a few minutes away to use your laptop in their lobby which is a hot spot.

As far as hiring people "who speak English", two points to ponder...one, many people with excellent communication skills in English won't work for Disney wages, and two, many guests at WDW are NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING, therefore it's wise to have cast members available who speak a variety of languages.

Too bad the resort didn't live up to your expectations. I had to laugh when you were still disappointed at something you knew didn't exist.

I do take offense at the comment on not understanding workers in the food court. I teach at schools where many students come from another country and English is not their 1st language. I am always impressed how hard they work at learning English. And hard it must be to learn another language. I don't know if I could do it. So have alittle heart on these ppl. And put yourself in their position.

I think I will stay at deluxe resorts with high speed internet access from now on. And use that safe!

So, what type of response are you looking for, JimmyBlaze? You just signed up, and all three of your posts are complaining about the WDW internet, calling
CM's thieves, and feeling ripped off. Instead of opening an account here, maybe your time would have been better spent writing a letter to WDW.

Generally, people here tend to feel WDW, while not without its faults, is a special place.

Probably a good idea. BTW--do yourself a faavor, not all deluxes have high speed access. You might want to do a little more research before you book your next trip.

I'm curious about the stolen jewlery...did you file a complaint? did they do anything about it? they would know who cleaned your room as I assume that they schedule all their staff which room/buildings to clean.

better luck nexttime! :/

I'd just like to say that we stayed at POR for the first time this September and I don't have a single bad thing to say about it.

It would have been nice to have high speed internet access but I knew before going that it wasn't available so I knew that if I wanted to get online it would have had to been on the dialup connection from the room.

I have to say that it is possible that your wife's jewelry could have been stolen by a dishonest mousekeeper at the resort. I would like to believe that all WDW employees are honest but, c'mon people, it's the real world and there are a few bad eggs wherever you go. Regardless of whether an employee stole your jewelry or not, I have to agree with the other people that have posted that if it was that important to your wife, it should have been locked up in the safe or put in a safer place so as to not be so inviting to someone (IF indeed it was stolen, and not simply misplaced).

On our trip, we left our laptop, cell phones, PDA's, and my purse including wallet, credit cards, etc. in the room the entire trip and didn't once feel the need to worry about whether they might be stolen or not!

It seems as though you had an unrealistic view of how things were going to be at POR. I personally happen to love it, along with many other people on these boards but if you don't agree, then it's probably better if you find somewhere else to stay that would better meet your needs

Yes we filed a report, and I hope they figure out who the thief they have working for them is. That person needs to be fired ASAP.

I doesnt matter if her jewelry was laying on the counter, if it is not yours then leave it alone. Sorry your trip was not so great.

I agree with you completely.

Please folks, don't leave cash and valuables out in the room. Use the safe.

You would think that with the kind of tips the housekeepers are getting (for a non-tipped position) they wouldn't have to lift people's stuff.

We have stayed at POR many times and are staying there again this December and have never had a single complaint, period.

We've left a laptop and other things (dvd player, dvds, jewlery, purses) in our room (Boardwalk and Polynesian) and never had a problem!

This is why its pretty weird to see osmething like this...especially at a disney resort, I figured if somoene took something Id complain to the cleaning people, they HAVE to know whos cleaning your room...if not I'd feel pretty unsafe all together.

I have stayed at POR many times and have never had one problem. Walking in to a dirty room however has happened to me at VWL and mousekeeping had accidently put into the computer that it was ready so this might have happened in this case.

As for the food I have always thought the food at the food court was pretty good. The price is okay.....what else do you want you're at Walt Disney World of course your going to pay to much that's part of it.

Sorry about the jewlery it shouldn't of happened but not all people are honest.
