My husband is disabled( uses a wheel chair ) My question is what discounts are available to him at disney?

Also I was told that there is a special pass that he can get that will allow us to move thur lines much faster... any one use this and if you have how exactly does it help compared to not having it?

TIA

What type of discounts are you wanting to know about? I have never heard of any discounts for being disabilied at WDW. The only thing some would consider a discount would be free valet parking at deluxe resorts with a handicap placard. This could be beneficial if staying deluxe or eating at a deluxe.

As for the pass you are asking about, at WDW it is called a Guest Assistance Card, or GAC. It does not automatically get you through line quicker. It is usually used for invisible disabilites. Post #6 in the Disabilities FAQ explains the GAC. Since many of the attractions at WDW are mainstreamed, wheelchairs usually go through the same lines as everyone else.

My husband is disabled( uses a wheel chair ) My question is what discounts are available to him at disney? the same that any other guest can get. AAA, PIN codes, etc. his being disabled is not a good enough reason to get any sort of discount.

Also I was told that there is a special pass that he can get that will allow us to move thur lines much faster... any one use this and if you have how exactly does it help compared to not having it? incorrect. a GAC is used to accommodate specific needs NOT to get you through a line faster. in fact people in wheelchairs are often in lines LONGER especially if they cannot transfer.

TIA

98% of all lines are mainstreamed.. meaning wheelchairs and scooters go through it just like any body else. Judicious use of the fast pass system and a good touring plan can shorten wait times.

the ADA helps us get EQUAL access.. not special access.

There is absolutely no advantage to being disabled at WDW. As a matter of fact, you have to deal with longer waits some of the time (as there are only a one or two vehicles designated for people with disabilities and if anyone else is ahead of you, you have a longer wait.) You will go through the same line as everyone else. There are times when you will get to a certain point and be diverted into another line to wait--often longer than the "regular" line.

Add to that the fact that people do not watch where they are going or just want to "beat" the WC or ECV and often jump in front of you or stop suddenly and then think it is your fault when you bump into them.

Disney doesn't offer any type of discount even for someone like me who cannot ride many of the rides. BTW--there is still enough for me to do that I have a great time!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

The majority of attraction lines in WDW are "mainstreamed". This means that a wheelchair or ECV will use the regular entrance and line all the way to either a show seating or ride load area. If a line is not mainstreamed there will be signs and/or Cast Members to direct you where to go.

If a show, normally there will be spaces to park a chair or ECV and there will be seats next to the space for other members of the group.

If a ride, usually you will have to transfer to a ride vehicle, although some rides will allow a person in a wheelchair to remain in their chair. If you have to transfer to a ride, and unload is not at the same location as load, your chair or ECV will magically appear at the unload area.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Note that Post #2 discusses mobility and equipment. Post #3 had a wide variety of information and links; it might be a good idea to look at the various park "Guidebook For Persons With Disabilities" for more detailed information.
