Boy, aren't you glad you didn't take Ryan Grant early?...oh, um...
You know the drill...you've got an either-or situation. Which 2nd RB to
start (or, like me, which RBs to start since you have no "stud" RB)?
Which WRs? It's horribly worse in Week 1, since everyone below the stud
players is an unknown.
Say you have both the Giants Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks, and one RB
spot to fill? You check all the sites - Steve Smith is the go-to guy.
You start him. He gets all of 43 yards, while Hakeem Nicks gets 3
touchdowns. Yes, it happened to me (in another league).
These are the coin flip decisions we make, and we get burned, and we're
tempted to chuck the offender to the curb and fish some guy who just had
an awesome game. Too bad that was probably his best of the season. Be
careful of knee-jerk reactions.
But hey, the Patriots have one less RB now. That leaves what, 10?
Time for the weekly awards...one week is not a trend, but last year it
seemed like the MKC on average outscored the ECC each week - the reverse
may be true this year.
The only team in the MKC to break 100 was Tink's Hammer, managing to
ring up 113 against ESPN Club's 82, behind Matt Forte getting reception
stats you wish your WRs would get.
My comparison, 3 teams in the ECC broke 100, but at the top by just a
single point was newcomer The Fins, with 110 points vs. 65 of Carousel
Of Doom (I can hear Captain Kirk yelling, "GRAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNT!!!!!!").
Mendenhall's OT run was a big contributor there.
Low points went to Mushu Maniacs ("GRAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNT!!!!!!") (52 vs.
Reedy Creek Smoke Eaters 87) and Grumpy Dopey (49 points vs. Brother
Bears 80).
Interestingly, both of our hapless Grant Victims also left Austin
Collie's 20 points on the bench, but there were plenty of other 20
pointers on benches, and the high bench points - 25 for the
aforementioned Hakeem Nicks - belonged to T-I-double-guh- err, but they
were second in high points at 109 thanks to Arian Foster in the flex
slot, so no benchwarmer awards this week.
Honorable mention to newcomer to the MKC Everest Yetis, who trusted the
autopicker in the draft and was rewarded with a quarterback picked in
the 16th round, actually beat fellow newcomer 81-78 - with that 16th
round QB (Kyle Orton).
