DIS Unplugged 10th Anniversary Mega Meet - Pictures/Mini DIS Meet report

Steve...I'll have to post my photos to see if I caught you or Christy. It shouldn't be surprising, with how many of us were on WDW, that our paths crossed without us knowing.
Yes do post them! All week I kept wondering if there were DISers around me. lol.

When we were in Trader Sam's Friday night, we were chatting with 3 women sitting next to us and didn't realize until Sunday that they were part of the DIS group there for the meet also. It just never came up in our conversation.

This happened too many times. I chatted with a woman by a smoking area who liked my pins, 10 minutes later she's telling me about her parents traveling to Europe with guys who have a Disney podcast, then we were in line for a ride when people behind me said "they moved the dessert party for weather" at least they had their lanyards on.

Was everyone in TS that Friday night after the fireworks? I was there with my friend Chandra (bamagoofy). We sat at the big table in the middle. Christy...we saw/heard when you got the black pearl. We saw/heard everything. Such a lively place! We ended up chatting with two couples who were nearing the end of their monorail crawl. Steve...sorry that we didn't meet you. Next time. Oh, and I've looked through my photos. Nothing to see there, I'm sad to report. I thought that I'd taken photos of the tea meet with Madeleine and Oliver, but apparently I didn't.

Great report! Also making me jealous! Not that we didn't have a great time, but this is more how I wanted it to be...but after ours turned into a family vacay, there was just no way to balance it all. Looks like the other events were really fun.

We were actually at TS twice on Friday. Well, really, kind of 3 times. All 3 of us went before the Dole Whip meet. Our daughter is only 20 so can't go after 8pm. After fireworks, we tried to go in (our daughter had gone back to the house) but they were full so 3 of us got a table outside and had drinks and snacks. A while later, someone we knew came by and saw us and said, "Why aren't you inside with everyone else?" By that time, the crowd had thinned so we were able to get in and hang out for a bit with the rest of the group.

Thanks!! As soon as I saw this comment I realized I didn't add meeting you to Momday night! Duh! I have corrected that horrible mistake. :)

It does sound like it was difficult for many to balance the meet weekend with family time. Understandable! I'm glad you were able to do some of the events at least! :)

Oh crazy that I didn't meet y'all then. And funny that you saw and heard all that! :)

That's cool! We were only there early and saw most of you briefly - but then we headed out as it was too cold inside for my kids (actually, one of the waiters asked us to mention something to the front desk about the cold as they had been telling them it was too cold but they wouldn't change it) - so then we moved outside. I actually liked the outside area - obviously you don't get the effects, but they had live music and you can get food from Captain Cook's (mmm, pulled pork nachos)

OMG it was Arctic in there! I don't know what the heck was going on but it was ridiculous. We complained, too. It was better later but before the Dole Whip meet you needed a parka.

Pulled pork nachos! Noted for next time.

Ryno was doing video during some of it. Maybe that will show up sometime?

The weekend was so overwhelming, I'm not even sure I could tell you all of the details. But I do remember some.

He talked about how he learned that you can't have expectations for things sometimes because often those expectations will limit you and your circumstances. He had no idea what the website and podcast would become. When they started the podcast and were sending off a script to be recorded by others, they thought that was the best way to do it, but quickly learned that it wasn't good at all. They never expected to be on it themselves, but then it just happened and surprise...it worked! He said he learned that you have to let things become what they will and that you will usually find that they become something far greater than you could have ever imagined.

I think he talked about the importance of trusting your intuition and going with your gut. It has served him well, especially with the people he has hired over the years.

And he ended with talking about gratitude. How grateful he is to every person who watches these podcasts, who is on the boards and visits the website. Each person who attends these meets and donates money to GKTW. He learned to always focus on how much there is to be thankful for and to appreciate those who have made it all possible.

That's not all word for word what he said...but it's what I took away from parts of it! (Now if only my memory were better...) I should have recorded some of it! :(

Thank you for a great report on the Dis Mega Meet and the photos Christy. It sounds like it was as fantastic as I thought it would be. :) I was so sad that my husband and I had to cancel our trip to the meet. Hoping we can make the next one.

Sorry...taking this off topic for a bit. I'm looking at all your posts, and you all have a section under a dotted line with lots of stuff...a list of past and future WDW visits, banners, links to posts and threads. Is that all part of your signature? Or do you construct it somewhere else?

Ohhhh, that was what I still refer to as "the black pearl incident" in which Miss Christy got hers on the first try after I paid Trader Sam's rent for a full year in my attempts at one. I'm not bitter. -smirk-

The Mega Meet has made me REALLY wish I were going on the podcast cruise in December. Ugh. So jealous of all that are going!

Don't worry! You can't go on every possible DIS trip! There's a lot of us that can't go on the cruise. ;)
