Dis Old Fogies Clubhouse – Six of One, Half Dozen of the Other. Makes No Difference!

It's been pretty full-on. DS has been coming home with a fortune of homework. And he's been seeking additional help from me with it.

Fran is asleep so she's not asking me what I'm doing online. We went up to West Hollywood today and had a meeting with Charm City Cakes West about my birthday cake. It's going to be really cool!

OOH! I really wish I were going to be able to be there in person. :(

That cake sounds like it's going to be amazing.

How is everyone?

It's been a busy week for me at work. I'm officially 90 days away from a major launch and its really starting to hot up at work. I don't know how much spare time I'll having during work days to check in here. I am home; just brain dead and I don't feel like doing anything other than collapsing on the couch.

Yikes! I hate that brain dead feeling. We were working a lot in the past couple weeks, and I would come home from dropping Darcy off, and then I had to cook dinner. By the time I sat down at my chair, all I could do was sit back and eat and watch TV. I got really behind on commenting on people's TRs, I was only reading from my phone. We've taken some days off from Darcy in the last week and I've been able to get caught up on other's TRs as well as my own. I have a feeling that's going to stop soon and I'll be back to crazy again.

How are things going at your end? Is the old place getting closer to being cleared out?

Hi Bret!

I wish you could be there too! It turns out that we are having a sheet cake made in addition to the sculpted cake. That way we can eat the cake on Friday night, have leftovers and then possibly take the sculpted cake home and break into that one on Sunday at the party at my house.

That is neat that you are having a cake at Charm City Cakes West. Look forward to the pictures as well.

You have no idea!!!

I'm fine with Science and Maths. He's doing a legal-type subject this semester and I'm completely clueless! :headache:
I work in a law firm and feel clueless half the time. At least I only have to deal with the financial, hr, IT, and office issues. The legal side is not my cup of tea. DD did love her Practical Law class she took last semester, and had thoughts of going into law. I have to admit I shot that idea down pretty quickly.

I would too. I don't know what it's like in your part of the world, but right now.. here ..lawyers are a dime a dozen and most are almost unemployable.

I'm in Michigan, and work for an intellectual property law firm, so they keep almost too busy, but I agree there are too many lawyers out there. Lawyers never have down time, either.

can you look online for a little bit of help? What kind of legal is it?

Not that kind of legal.

He has to READ newspapers and look for the articles that represent different laws. He's having problems with the opening of a newspaper (or googling on line) and I'm having problems trying to help him understand articles that he hasn't been looking for. :rolleyes1

Suffice to say, I'm NOT doing the reading for him. And am completely clueless as to how much help he may or may not need. :rotfl2:

But it's all good. I suspect he's managed to con....er.....get DH to do some googling for him. :rotfl:

I really feel bad for your DS, he has been able to con your DH into babying him for so long when he gets into the real world he is going to have some real eye openers! I know your DH will want to keep coddling him, but eventually you will win out and DS will be left to do his tricks without the safety net!

Alison you're right it's really PIO's fault about the Melting Pot. Lol

I may be in traction tomorrow after bowling tonight, it's been 30 years since the last time I've bowled. I totally stunk.

You and me both! :sad1:

But I could be totally winning this year. :cheer2:

This year, the school runs a Friday program for DS' year group. He is working in a team of 4. This semester, they have to develop their own community service project. They have picked an....Old Fogie Home......to go help out. They have to organise a proper contract between them and the home, figure out what they can do to add value to the home and then go ahead and do it. They also have to navigate their own way to the Old Fogie home by public transport. I think DH was a little shocked to find out how much responsibility the school are giving the kids this year and truth be told, I think he was a little freaked out by DS being left to his own devices in the big wide world all Friday. But I asked DH at what age was he allowed to roam the streets when he was younger and he settled down immediately.

Next semester, the team will navigate their way through various tasks and discovery through the city. I think it's a very good program that the school is making DH go through this year.....and DS. :teeth:

In fact, I've been pretty encouraged by signs that DS is maturing. He's actually told DH NOT to do stuff for him this year.

So....this morning, I cheated on the Dis.

Since getting my new cat, I've been hanging out on a cat forum on FB and there were a bunch of Melbournians that planned to go to the Pet Expo this weekend. We arranged to meet at 'rope drop' and had planned to spend time together.
I don't know about you. But when I do a DisMeet and the 3D meet happens, the conversation just picks up from where we left it off the Dis.

Sadly, the crazy cat ladies didn't quite meet up to expectations for me. Maybe it's me....but I do expect that when you meet someone in 3D you want to ask questions about them and what they do in real life. And it is give and take, right? You ask, they answer. They ask, you answer.

This group? All they wanted to do was talk about themselves. I asked. They answered. And didn't stop.
I politely listened for a couple of hours and then gracefully made a tactical retreat when it was appropriate to do so.

Life really is full of crazy cat ladies!
