I'm flying to Florence first for a few days. I have been wanting to return for a long time. My plans so far are to travel by train to Milan from Florence.

Question about tipping the guides - what currency?

OK, so this trip covers Italy (Euro) and Switzerland (Swiss Franc), what currency to you plan on using to tip the guides?

I think the best thing to do is ask the guides. Every European trip I have been on someone is "elected" to ask.

Found a few interesting tidbits about Switzerland that may be of use:

• Currency: Swiss Franc. But supposedly many merchants will accept Euro's and prices may be marked in Euro. http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-us/...and-figures/general-information/currency.html
• Electricity: The voltage in Switzerland, as in most of Europe, is 230V/50 Hz. Switzerland uses type C (2-pin) and Type J (3-pin) plugs. (Type C 2-pin plugs also fit J sockets.) http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-us/...-figures/general-information/electricity.html

Also, four languages spoken in Switzerland, French, Italian, German and Romansh.

Pretty much count on me being able to embarrass my DW (and myself) in two of the four during the adventure.

She "loves" when I try to revive my out of practice language skills.

What kind of weather should we prepare for, clothing-wise? Light jackets, heavy coats?
