We are around OKW from the 5-12, so we MIGHT run into you! I usually try to remember to wear my green Mickey head that has my name on it. We're hard to miss... a 60 something couple with me usually a few steps ahead of my DH who has white hair and walks with a side to side gate to accommodate his bad knees. LOL, I keep telling him he HAS to have those fixed before he retires, becaus I want him to keep up with me!

We'll be at OKW from 5/3-5/8, also next week. We should get together there. Heck, that's 3 families-definitely enough to take over Gurgling Suitcase! I love that little place-everyone's so friendly there.

I would have loved meeting all of you Dis Vets!

We are heading to WDW this weekend, not next weekend. Hoping to run into BroganMC and her dad....aka:GP Mohawk!

I've got it scheduled..........actually just picked up a few lime green Mickeys at Home Depot tonight...... I am wondering, however, if we'll receive any questions from Disney security when we tell them we're just going in to Kidani to "look around and check it out". With the pool accessible from the front lobby area.....they may be questioning just a bit more........since there is no pool hopping.

Donna - just a fyi

They moved the security gate so that one security gate services the entire resort - both AKL/Jambo and Kidani.

Yes, that new security gate was under construction when we were there in January. I've never had any issues visiting a different DVC than the one I've been staying at. If you think it's going to be a problem, tell them you are going to go check out the new restaurant.;)

That's right, John and Diane......I forgot about the new gate......we also saw it when we were there in January. We've never had a problem visiting other DVC resorts in the past either. I guess I'm just supposing since the pool's location is so near the entrance of the lobby security may be a bit more. See everyone next week..........

Argh. The Space Shuttle launch was switched from May 12th to May 11th. I'd love to meet y'all but I really want to see another launch!!! Have fun, maybe next time instead.

What time is the launch...and can you see it well from the world? It's a non-park day for us so is there any "best place" from the world to see it?
Thanks..Lori

Ps...I'm still giggling about you calling the phonebox in Epcot to ask about the crowds...smart thinking!!

We'll be at DHS watching the shuttle launch. Then hitting AKL.

SEe ya there!

2 pm. A year ago we drove down the the coast where we could stand on the beach and see the shuttle on the launch pad. Then watched it go. One of the most thrilling experiences of my life!! Well worth the drive if you don't have to do Disney commando style.

From pictures I've seen in the past, I think a view from the Wilderness Lodge pool area (maybe up on Sunrise Terrace .....at least I think that's the name of the upper deck area facing Bay Lake) or I've also seen pictures taken from the beach at the Poly or GF facing the Contemporary. So, it would appear you should be facing Bay Lake and you will see it........as long as it's a clear day with no cloud cover..........as of right now it's supposed to be very clear and hot on the 11th. I think we'll try for maybe the Poly beach and then head up to AKV for the 3:00 p.m. meet.

We have seen several shuttle launces from WDW. The best was the first ever night launch. We watched that one from in front of the castle waiting for Wishes to start. The cool thing is that from where we were, the shuttle launched right over Tomorrow land!

We have also watched it from the roof of the Contemporary, but BLT would be a bit in the way for that now. It is visible from anywhere in WDW though, as long as you know the direction to look. We usually track it on our laptop and know exactly when it is going and where to watch. In fact, teh night launch we brought the laptop along to MK/Wishes!:thumbsup2

Besides, the launch schedule can change many times between now and next Monday! We usually check on the schedule multiple times a day when a launch is sheduled. I've never seen one go the FIRST time it was supposed to.

It's great to watch a launch from here in Savannah at night. We go out on the pier at the beach and watch it. On a good night, you can see the flash of the solid rockets lighting and then see the craft lift up out of the ocean. If they are going to the station, we can watch them all the way til main engine cut off. This is 250 miles away too!

Yes, and they will never go if it isn't a clear day, so visibility is always great.
