Dis Breast Cancer Survivors Part IV - GAGWTA

Hope everyone is doing well. Happy Holidays!

Now that radiation is over, we switched into Christmas mode. DH and ds put up a few Christmas lights yesterday. I almost forgot to plug them in last night. It was 10pm when I remembered.

I talked to the cancer clinic this morning. They are in appeals with insurance to try to get $35,000+ of treatment covered. Hopefully, insurance will pay up. It's crazy that they paid for the AccuBoost treatments, but not the regular radiation. Them reaching an agreement in my favor would be the best Christmas present!

I'm looking forward to the burn and itch going away. I've developed folliculitis from the radiation.

Next week I go to the lymphedema clinic. Though my swelling is down since I went out on my own and bought a sleeve. It was crazy they couldn't get me in for 4 weeks. It's good it wasn't a serious case!

Merry Christmas, my friends! Just popping in to say a quick hello.

My sister and I both put our homes on the market the first of November. They both sold in a week! We had a month to get out. It's been totally crazy!
Our new home will not be ready until March, so I found a townhouse to rent in Summerport. We stored the majority of our belongings, so we're sort of camping out in the townhouse with my dog and our two cats.

The situation is okay, but I will be so happy to make the final move! I really miss my fenced in back yard when I am walking the dog at 3am. We encountered a 6 foot gator the other night during our walk. Fortunately, I don't let her near the water's edge. He stayed in the water and we moved on quickly! After that encounter, I am not that crazy about walking in the dark, but you got to do what you've got to do!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday! Thinking of you!

Isn't 6 feet big enough to be relocated, or was is a lake not a retention pond?

Congratulations on both houses selling so quickly!

Good to hear everyone's updates. Congratulations, lovethattink!

Peg, that would have FREAKED ME OUT!! :scared: Friends of ours live down there with a house on a lake, and we had our dog down there last summer. I made sure my son walked him out front!!

Wishing everyone a beautiful and healthy holiday season!!

Thanks!

Checking in and wishing everyone Happy Holidays and a Happy new year!

Weather update, last week wind chills at -25 to -30, now on Christmas day they are talking maybe thunderstorms and a high of 50's, not that common in Nebraska in the winter time

Lovetink: Glad your rad is over, sorry for the after effects, :( It will all get better.

The DW is doing good, doctor was pleased with her skin and swelling at last checkup after radiation.

:drinking1 Here's a toast for everyone for a healthy and continued healing for 2017:cheer2:

Watch your sodium intake, especially over the holidays (lots of salty food) as sodium causes fluid retention. If you do indulge, watch it even more over the subsequent few days. I think they will cover the radiation as it is standard treatment. Good luck on both counts!

LMP, yes Sandia Labs is here. I worked on the base, but I was a Fed. The thought of having someone just come in and move me is lovely, but it won't happen. ha

Janet, very cute photo with the snowman!

Peg, oh my gosh. There are too many gators in FL these days. Poor doggies that get out of their yards. Sounds like your move is under control though.

Glad to hear the radiation treatments are done, ladies!

Hooray for no more radiation ladies!!

Janet - I love your snowman picture

Well I commented on the other thread about the christmas mood. Poor dh is really sick with a horrible abscess in his tooth/jaw. Our reg. dentist said it was so bad it was going to his brain and was up in the ear canal. His one tooth was cracked right in half. He had some issue in Fl before we even left too but said he was ok. He went to the endodontist yest. and more work. Still not done but he also commented on dh massive infection. He does not go back to Jan. 6th. Oh did I mention we ran out of dental benefits for the year. So hopefully they will bill the rest of the procedures for 2017 because dh was mentioning something like 2500 if they can save the tooth, .

Worse, tues. ds3 was home and I told him to look outside because I thought I heard dh car. No, it was 3 cop cars, an ambulance at our neighbors and later the crime scene van was parked inn front of our house. Ds saw them take the thumper machine in the neighbors house and later a body bag, heart wrenching. Found out the girls parents, who we know came up for the holidays from Florida. It was also the girls birthday and he had a heart attack. Utterly devastating and now yest. was also one of the grand daughters b days. I dont know what will happen. I cant see this lady driving their van back to Fl herself. So sad.

Ds2 gf will be over for christmas eve, christmas day ds3 has to work 3-11 so we are doing a breakfast after church.

Money and gift cards are my friends, lol. I hate shopping.

GAGWTA Wisiing everyone a joyous holiday season

Sorry for your husband. That's a very serious infection. I hope the endodontist can get it all squared away.

How tragic for that family.

Hello all! we had a busy month, with christmas and our dear sons daughters coming to stay, a lot's of birthdays, now we have been busy puttering around getting some stuff done around the house again. we both had really bad colds in that time too, with sinus infections, yuck. we had the longest stretch of cold weather here in 35 years and it just thawed out about 3 days ago. yesterday was a nice mostly sunny day and warm enough for a jacket, we went for a long drive and had lunch with our daughter, it was so nice.
life has certainly had its challenges, and next week is the anniversary of our sons death, so we are trying to take it easy, not do too much, kind of keeping our heads low so to speak. hoping that this year will be a better one for us.
Tink it will get better! I sure hope you get your approval, that is a lot of money!
LMP, sure hope your husband is doing ok! how is the tooth?
Snappy! so good to see you! I hope life is being good to you!!

Janet - thinking of you:hug:

Peg - hope the house is progressing well

Diana - thought of you as I am reading a book and the characters are from Portland but living temporarily in Spokane, lol

Well when I thought things couldnt get any worse my cousin called me and I called him back 2 days later. I thought it was just him asking me Disney stuff which we normally e mail each other about. He said sadly his son died on New Years Eve. He was about the same age as the ds. This is the boy that dh and 2 of the ds went to visit in Hawaii but he had moved back home lately. It was just that he lost his way in life. My heart just breaks for their family. He just went to Disney with them in Oct. They were celebrating his nieces 1 year old birthday. They just had a private service he said.

Just found out our dental ins. changed procedures and now everything has to be pre approved, so dh has to wait to get a cap on and now they want him in California when he has an appt.

Just trying to stay healthy especially with all the germs and stuff ds3 is exposed to like hmm lately, the usual tb, c diff etc. gheesh! I tell him to get out of the scrubs immediately when he comes home. He also got awarded employee of the month, just a certificate.

GAGWTA. Hope everyone is doing well

Smiley, been thinking about you. Hope you are feeling ok, glad you got to see the DDG's.

LMP sorry to hear about your cousin's son. I hope his family is coping ok.

We didn't get the house we were trying for, but got an offer accepted for another one today. A little less $$, bigger sf and better condition, smaller lot, nicer area. So things work out. We may have a guest room! People like to visit Portland so that will be nice. DH loved the park like lot on the other one, but I pointed out this one will only require an hour or so a week! And a nice covered patio for cooking out, basement for wine cellar. It's all good.

Of course Portland is having the worst winter they've ever had. Hoping it isn't a trend.

And Janet, interesting point about the bursitis. I have that too, and it's very dry here. And cold. I combat it with diet, collagen, turmeric, everything in the book. Wonder if it will be better in Portland, along with my eyes.

Offer accepted, loan pre-approved! Now I really have to clean out my house of all my "collections".

LMP, I am so sorry for that loss! that is huge, I feel so badly for them :( it is a very long very hard journey they are on now. 6 years for us, and it does not get easier or better. Eventually you begin to find things to enjoy again, and smile about. But it is always there, in every single moment. I hope you have stayed well, and that hubby is getting his tooth looked after!
Diana, I have been thinking about you! that is very exciting!!!!! We are breaking all time ever recorded records with this cold and snow!! I don't think it will happen again for another 30 years or so! at least I hope it won't! I do not like this at all!! we got that little tease of nice weather then bam hit again. I am betting your bursitis will be better on the coast! the tumeric seems to have been really helping me a lot when it does flare up when it gets dry and cold.
Our family is staying pretty healthy, and our one daughter that was having so much difficulty has been doing really well. She is going back to school in the fall, getting into the medical field, she used to be a veterinary technician. I was happy to be a stay at home mom, but she gets bored easily and wants to be back at work. We have not seen her so happy for months, since she has been going to informational classes, and meetings and such.
hello Low-key! :)

Literally 3 hours after I posted, we got a call from our youngest daughter, in the ambulance with her partner, on the way to the hospital, he has a broken back. I will never again tempt fate by saying anything is going well in our lives.

Portland usually gets 1-2 icy days every 3 or so years. Last time we had this crazy winter weather the oldest was still at home and she is 40.

Now crazy rainy mud/landslides yeah that is a yearly occurrence.

Welcome to the left hand coast.

LMP and Smiley, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.

Things are moving along with our new house. It looks like we will close mid-March, which is good because we are being kicked out of the townhouse we are renting on March 20th. The landlord found a long term renter. I can't blame her, but it is putting us in kind of a bind, if the house isn't ready. Fingers crossed all will work out.

I got a couple of interesting calls last week. First, my oncologist's office called to say that he needed me to come in for a followup. I got the call late Friday and they had me scheduled for Tuesday morning. The person I spoke to couldn't give me any info, so I got to worry about it all weekend. I'd just been in for my 6 month appointment at the beginning of January and had been told my scan looked good. That Tuesday morning, I was about then minutes from the office when I got another call telling me I didn't need to come in after all. They had mixed me up with another patient. Good news for me, but I could have done without the scare!

I also got a call from the surgeon who had done my initial biopsy. He'd been contacted by Quest Diagnostics. Apparently, my biopsy was randomly chosen to be reevaluated. They do this for quality control. The results came back that my tumor was HER2 positive grade 2 instead of grade 3. Not that it really makes a difference. He forwarded the report to my oncologist and I've not heard anything from them. I guess this is a good thing.

Thinking of you all!

Sorry to hear about your daughters partner, hope everything turns out for the best for you and your daughters partner.
Feralpeg: Glad to hear they just made a mistake, although you had to worry about it over the weekend.

Oh no! I hope that he's OK. I'm sending good thoughts to you and your family.
