Sha- Will do for R's Cousin.

LMP- Insurance, police, alarm company, window company, estimates, lists and serial numbers, OH MY! You will find something you like. Look at vans online.

Smiley, Patsmom, Lisa-Hope you are feeling better!

Snappy- How was the visit?

It's crazy what you have to do. It's almost like they are punishing you for someone breaking in your house. All the hoops you have to jump through!

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good afternoon ladies

Sha - will say prayers for Melanie

Candy - I know what you mean. My poor dh is the victim and he has to go through all this stuff too.

Laurie - are you meeting Anne there in Oct? I forgot?

Cheryl and PatsMom - bet you are anticipating your trips

smiley and Lisa - hope you are both feeling ok

Linda and Sha - I cant believe applying to nursing school is so complicated. Each school has their own pre reqs, rules etc. More head spinning. And some of these schools are so $$.

Thought ds hosp. orientation was yest. It is today.

GTAGWTA

I wish the other ins. co. guy stops calling our house. Dh said our ins. co. said we are under no obligation to talk to him. I just let him leave a message. Dh has to return the rent a car on sat so I dot know if we will get one for another week or he will have to work out a driving schedule with the ds.

Today I think I am going to forget about cancer and book the flights on southwest. Its almost 2 months away, so I dont want to wait much longer, They just dropped it by $40 one way, so I think that is the best we are going to get about $240 each and then take off the $50 credit we have. I just want to have that out of the way too.

When is Anne's trip? I think we are both missing her... or I could be wrong. R confirmed with me this afternoon that he will be at my HS reunion so we will be at food and wine on Saturday with the gang from HS. Not sure how many that will be but if we need to break away we will be. Waiting to see what happens for a room. Since half the activities are on downtown Orlando I am actually looking to staying off property at the hotel that is hosting us. Will see what my friend gets for us in DVC. I was trying to help her again with her points. Will come back and catch up. Too much going on. <3 ya'll!!!

Good afternoon ladies. Wow! I can't believe everything that has happened to all of you in the last week or so. Candy, how horrible for you to have to go through a burglary like that. My niece, a senior in high school this year, was a victim of a violent crime last year. She works as an assistant at a pharmacy and was held up at gunpoint by a lowlife looking for drugs. She has been in counseling to deal with the stress. Something like that might help your daughter.

Sha - sorry to hear that you've had a tough time at work. Hope things are getting better for you now that you sister has wheels! Have a great time with the Race for the Cure. I did the three day walk in 2010 against medical advice because I was diagnosed with my bladder cancer and severe anemia a month before the walk. My first surgery was the week after. It was a great experience. I am hoping that I will feel up to doing it again sometime. In the meantime I have signed on with a team doing the Relay for Life next spring. That should be fun. Makes me feel like I am doing something to fight back.

LMP - hope your transportation problems get worked out soon! Dealing with adjusters and insurance companies is the pits. I am glad to hear that your bloodwork is looking good. And I hope they find out why you are tired. I am sure they have checked blood counts for anemia - that is usually something that they look for first. That has been my problem for so long now. Seems like I get my counts back up and it is time for more treatments.

I got a good checkup. NED - no evidence of disease. So I am back into three rounds of maintenance treatments. Had the first one on Tuesday, then the next two Tuesday's to finish up. Last time it took a couple of weeks to get back to feeling halfway decent so things should work out OK for my trip. I am very much looking forward to Food and Wine!

Greetings and good wishes to everyone.

Went for my labs this morning. No Prokrit shot this week as my HGB is above 10.0. Feeling a bit better, but still no energy. As I explained to my hubby, I feel like an 8 cylinder car running on 4 cylinders. Looking forward to my support group meeting tonight. This will be my second one. A nice group of women.

Have a great weekend everyone!:goodvibes

Having some posting issues-I am sure it is me-and lost an almost completed post yesterday and then again today. I will try again.

Candy and MaryAnn, I am sorry you are faced with the aftermath of the burglary and car accident. Candy, is you daughter a little less anxious? Have the authorities any leads? In New Orleans we were victims several times, home burglary, car stolen, my purse stolen. The burglary happened the night before our first child was born.:scared1: I think I went into labor about 6 hours after the police left! DH had a security system installed in a matter of days. In our case it was high school kids stealing gold jewelry to bring to a fence at a jewelry store in exchange for cash and drugs. They were apprehended because one or more of the boys bragged about it a the nearby public high school, and another student who overheard it was one of the victims! Luckily, we only lost jewelry, and with the new baby we were pretty distracted so we moved on very quickly. The police arrested the boys but could not seem to nail the jewelry store fence from what we heard at the time. We were very angry, as they knew who it was.

Is there a counselor at school your daughter could speak to?

MaryAnn, thank goodness your DH was spared. How very scary these split second things like that are!

Did you get to go car shopping yesterday? New cars are so expensive it is crazy! We have not bought a new car since Dec 2007.

Sha, I have to join the Hakuna ma ta tas group today. I had a busy week and I am catching up.

Lisa, I hope the hydration helped, and that you enjoy this fall weekend.

Patsom, I am glad your numbers looked good and are back on maintenance. I think your trip is later than mine in October so I will miss you.

I was off yesterday but decided I had not made the most of the two prior Fridays I was off, so I did a full course press on cleaning house. Gosh things had gotten out of hand. I could not believe how dirty our bathroom floors were. I ended up using ultiple magic erasures on the master bathroom floor. I even had to take breaks from scrubbing. I guess the vacuuming and the quickie cleanups our cleaning lady was doing was really not enough.

I am trying to figure out how to keep the clean better, but short of keeping DH and I and Snappy, our dog, out of there I am at a loss.

Annrae is going to be at Disney around November 3rd for several days. I have a reservation for that week as well as the weekend of the Orlando race for the cure, but I am not sure I am going to be able to make the November trip now as I have a conflict. I am hoping to still go for a little while though as I have always wanted to meet her.

I am really looking forward to the race for the cure trip, seeing Sha,etc. Sha, will R. be there that weekend too? I am staying at Old Key west for 2 nights, to use up expiring points, then moving to a 1 bedrrom presidential at Wyndham bonnet creek. I just love Ken Price, the Wyndham owner I rent from. My sister tried to get a presidential last November and it was booked so I know it was a miracle at a miracle price.

We had a wonderful trip Sunday to New Orleans. DD21 suggested this great little brunch place near Tulane that is literally a block away from the high school I attended back in the day. They had some of the best grits I have ever eaten, I think cream was involved. Then we headed over early to the aquarium. We hit that place just right as the Saints were playing at home. Everyone was either at the game or watching it at home. You could have shot a cannon throught the Riverwalk shopping mall that we walked through to get to the aquarium and not hit anyone when we arrived. We were able to linger by exhibits and took lots of pictures. The trip brought back a ton of memories as we have not been there for a while. When we lived down there, we went often as members. The fish population post Katrina are still a bit sparse compared to beforehand but you might not know that if you had not gone there beforehand.

After we left we were all relaxed. DD21 and DD15 both said how going there makes them drowsy, I think it is the effortless way fish swim as well as the slow pace we adopted. And the rich breakfast probably contributed somewhat as well!

It was a wonderful outing, and we were able to drop DD21 off and head back home before the end of the game. And the Saints won! Yea!

DH is still losing weight on his diet and I am too but I still have a log way to go! He is looking quite svelte and I am enjoying the view! He is looking not bad for a 59 year old CPA! He is participating in a diabetes fundraiser walk today before he goes to work.

I am on my computer watching a family of cardinals just outside the window by the feeder on one side and my aquarium fish on the other side.

Life is good.

Its all good Laurie and thank you for signing up. Need team members... didn't get to recruit very well. R will not be there, he has his son both walk weekends but will be down the following weekend for my HS reunion. Comes in on Friday afternoon.

I don't know if I said anything... but one of my instructors had breast surgery (possible mastectomy) on the 13th.

Things have just been bad and crazy for me... not bad... just stressed. So thankful for R despite the distance.

Good late evening ladies

PatsMom -I am so happy that you got good news from your drs. visit.

Laurie - your visit sounded wonderful. I think I would find all those fish relaxing too.

Lisa - Hope your support group visit went well

Sha - Hope you can get back to normal soon after all the catch up you have to do.

Well I am emotionally and physically drained. I didnt know how much of a hassle car shopping would be.

Went to the first dealer and we looked at the dodge van, the chrysler van, jeep compass, jeep grand cherokee, and jeep liberty. The most comfortable was the town and country but I didnt like the front set up.

Came home to rest and later went to another dealer. Tried the chevy traverse. Didnt like it. Then we tried the equinox. I didnt like how the front is so squished up. Then dh was insisting I try to drive it. He took it for a test drive. I kept telling him no and he insisted. I got in it and couldnt realyl adapt to the view. Needles to say he was relentless and I went out of there crying and upset. This was not a good experience.

Now I am just so overwhelmed and I dont know what else to look at. Lisa, hmm, maybe I need your expert car advice. Well tomm. dh has to renew the rent a car.

Oh and our ins. co. said the adjuster still has not looked at it. I am making him call again on mon. This is ridiculous. We need to know how much we are getting so we can decide etc.

Oh MaryAnn, what a terrible experience at the dealerships!

I get nervous too driving a new, different car, especially with the salesman in the car.

I understand your DH wants to get a car you feeling comfortable driving, but I think it is being too heavy handed.

Main thing, is if you are able to get in and out of the car ok, the driving part will come. I did not drive our Accord before we bought, but I was fin. I could tell from the ride as a passenger I would be happy with it.

I think you are under way too much pressure with this and with the insurance claim. Can you take a break from it and let him handle it? It is your turn to insist that he handle things.

Hasn't it been a while since you drove any vehicle? To make the decision based on whether you can drive it does not seem the way to go to me right now. Whatever you get, you can get comfortable with it over time, when you don't have the current pressures.

Just worried about you and the toll this is taking.

Sha, I too am glad you have R's support. You will enjoy the next few weeks immensely I know.

I am thrilled about my RFTC weekend. I wish DH would start joining me again, but he is still taking a break and anyway continues to work far too much to fit in a vacation. It was a miracle I was able to get him to the beach back in June, and he did have to arrive a day later for it.

We are trying to fit in little mini down times like the trip to the acquarium last Sunday when we can. I am trying to see the bright side of things but sometimes it is difficult. I am reminded of the movie Robert Duvall started in years ago, Tender Mercies. I can relate to the message of that movie.

GAGWTA and have a nice Sunday.

MaryAnn - Sorry you had a bad experience at the dealership. Don't let anyone (including your DH) talk you into something you're not comfortable with. We never buy a vehicle after one trip to a dealership. Do you have to have an SUV? If not, maybe you should check out the Chevy Malibu or the Buick LaCrosse. I am a GM girl, so I'm biased. Funny that your DH is trying to talk you into something you don't want. My DH leaves all the automotive decisions up to me.:lmao:

Laurie- I'm sure you're looking forward to your RFTC. I'm sure it will go well!

I just got out of the pool. First time I've been up to it in a month. Felt good and I was careful not to overdo it. I'm taking my DS for a ride in the 'Vette in a little while. That will probably do it for me for the day.:cool1:

Hi ladies....DH and I have been in Colorado since the 15th having a wonderful vacation. We'll be back home tomorrow. On Friday we got an urgent phone call telling us that my grandson Avery's leukemia has returned.:sad2: Original diagnosis some may recall was late 2006, 3+ years treatmetn and about 18months of being "cancer free"...it is back. Further treatment and testing commenced today, we will know more details in the next couple of days....if this came from the blood or central nervous system the prognosis is much better than if it originated in the bone marrow. Getting the "prayer and positive thoughts" armies mustered again for our brave strong boy, he will be 10 on Wednesday.

TIA for your prayers...I'll be in touch again soon.

Thinking of you all.

Cancer truly sucks.

ETA: if you go to the website caringbridge.org and then search for the page/site for averyforrestall you can find his whole journey, latest updates and a guestbook.

I continue to receive the caringbridge updates. I am right in there with the many, many others in Avery's corner. Keep us posted us when youcan, but it truly is easy to go on caringbridge. I am even able to pick it up now on my iphone.

I love that he posts there himself sometimes.

What a guy, what a family!

Hope you and your DH enjoyed your Colorado retreat, Ann, and glad you posted. Did y'all do some fishing out west? I bet the weather was nice. Have a safe journey home.

Lisa, glad you could enjoy you pool over the weekend. How was your spin in the vette?

MaryAnn, are y'all still driving the rental or did you take the plunge yet?

Ann, I'm sorry to hear about Avery.

MaryAnn, I love buying cars, I wish I could go with you. :goodvibes Don't let them push you around, you are in the driver's seat, literally! If they sense any weakness at all, they'll pounce, lol. Act like you own the place. And if they don't want to wheel and deal, simply get up and walk out and take your business to someone who does.

BTW, I had a T&C and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another but they no longer make them in AWD, which I need to get to work in bad weather. DH and I also are big Jeep people, we've had 8 between us and love them. :lovestruc We'll definitely be buying more in the future as well.

Lisa- Glad you are feeling better and your counts are up enough to get you back in the pool.

Anne- Glad you are having a good trip. I will say prayers for Avery!

Snappy- Sounds like you had a nice relaxing time at the Aquarium! Grits sound good. My DD has been talking to her counselor and he even followed up with me yesterday. So the school gets a point.

PNM- My sister and husband love Jeeps and the town and country too. They are an easy car to get used to.

PatsMom- How are you doing? Great news on getting maintenance treatment now. Congrats Girlfriend!

Sha- Hope your stress level decreases. Don't forget we are here if you just want to vent. LMK

LMP- Sorry you did not have a great experience. I agree you should take a break and go back to it. It takes time to get used to the new fangled stuff too. I didn't think I would ever like a SUV because they were too big and looked like you were driving an 18 wheeler! But I used my brothers Denali while they were on vacation and guess what?!?!!? I loooooved it! It was easy to drive and very comfortable to drive in. Maybe if the dealership is big you can just drive in the dealership.

My son is saving for a car now. I told him he has to find another job first. He has been working with me the last two parties. He is working this weekend with me. I told him if he was working, he would have $1000.00 by now. Hopefully that will stoke a fire under him. My sister took my daughter to have her braces adjusted today and I am sure will come home and go to bed. I hope she eats this time. This is the first adjustment. Believe it or not they look great already.

Still going through the insurance company for the theft. The alarm company want $100.00 more a month for the windows and the pet sensor. I don't want to do that but I might just for peace of mind. Still not sleeping great.

Good afternoon ladies

Anne - While I am glad you are having a good vacation, I am so sorry to hear about Avery. My prayers will be with him:hug:.Wishing him all the best. I am sure he will be a real fighter and trooper through all of this, but sorry he has to face this again.

Candy - so sorry you are not sleeping well. I am sure it will take a long time to adjust to the whole situation. I usually only open my back shades during the day and keep everything else closed in front. I dont want people looking in etc. especially when I am here by myself. Have 2 cops that live by us, one across the street and he is totally useless anyway. Hope your dd does well with the braces and that your ds finds a good job fit.

PatsMom - great news!

smilie - hope you are ok and reading along. Prayers for you.

Lisa - great you could swim.

Laurie - is your dd bowling this year?

Grumpy - how are you feeling??

Sha - you are one busy sista!

Linda - my dh is such a bad negotiator. Last time we bought the van I walked right out of the place when the guy tried to bait and switch us.

Well the accident saga continues. The adjuster is suppose to come by wed. Meanwhile dh rented the rent a car for another 2 weeks. We got rid of the crown victoria and got a chevy impala. We hate cars. Not big enough for us. But it rides nice. Dh said he was going with ds to look at an acura?? Not in m price budget. I talked dh into getting a used van as that is what he wants, a van, and I dont want to spend a ton of money as we need the new ac system and roof etc. So I found something decent, just not all the bells and whistles but a good price. I dont know how much they would negotiate on the price. Never bought a used one before. We paid the asking price for all the ds used vehicles as they were in the price range etc. Now ds is trying to turn things around. He wants dh to look at new and pricey stuff. I am getting sick of this. I am trying to find some middle ground here.

Ds19 has applied to work in the pediatric oncology dept. at the cancer center which is outpatient. The volunteer stuff is so strange at the hosp.. You have to e mail a supervisor of the floor or place and tell them your qualifications available times etc. Then they will choose you if they want to or you try to find another dept. He wants something more people and less paperwork stuff.

GTAGWTA.

I like to buy cars that are relatively new but someone else has eaten the initial depreciation. Do you remember the Auto Mart paper that was like the Want Ad - you could pick it up next to stores next to the Want Ad? Well it's online now. Use the advanced feature and you can easily find EXACTLY what you're looking for, rather than just going to dealerships in your immediate area. That worked for me last time. I found just what I wanted about an hour away from home, and it helped that they were willing to negotiate once I got there in person. Good luck.

As for the hospital stuff, with HIPPA in place it is really tough to get in to work directly with patients, and rightfully so when you think about it. Patient's interests have to come first. He might find it's that way everywhere. But good luck to him in his search for finding something he likes.

Anne - so sorry to hear about Avery. Cancer always sucks but in children it sucks harder.

MaryAnn - good luck with the car situation! I drove my sister in law's Chevy Tahoe last weekend because I took my niece to a party. You need the Tahoe because she is severely disabled and you need to lug around a wheelchair, etc. It drove really nice, much better than I expected for a big vehicle. I love my little Subaru and usually really hate driving a big car.

Snappy - hope you are getting caught up on stuff.
Sha - sounds like you have a lot going on right now. Hang in there and things will get better!
Candy - Hope you get through dealing with the insurance company and get to a point where you are comfortable in your own house again! A break in like that is just such a violation.

Treatment day today. Second of three maintenance treatments. Not feeling too badly - headachy, a little nauseous and in the bathroom to urinate every 15 minutes! They gave me medication to try to calm the bladder because I had this type of reaction to the first treatment in this cycle too. Funny, the first 9 I had problems, but nothing this bad. The doctors do warn you that the side effects can get worse as you get further into maintenance. Still beats having my bladder removed though!

PatsMom - Sorry you're having trouble with your maintenance treatments. I hope they get a little more comfortable as you go on. I'm always in the bathroom during chemo because I hydrate so much.

MaryAnn - I agree with the recommendation of a Chevy Tahoe, unless you're looking for something that's not a gas hog. We almost bought one back in 2005, but ended up with a Chevy Avalanche because DH said we needed something more like a truck. Good thing we bought that, since our '93 truck was stolen last year. We are fortunate that when we have to deal with the insurance company, we don't have to do much. We have AllState, and our agent is the father of one of Meg's best friends.

Candy - I hope that your family begins to feel safer in your house again. I'm sure that was traumatic for everyone involved. You might want to have your DD take ibuprofen before she goes in for her braces adjustments. It helps if you take it before as well as after with the pain and swelling. Been there, done that with both DD and DS.

NHAnn = I am so sorry to learn of your grandson's latest diagnosis. I will add him to everyone's prayer list. I agree with the comment about cancer always sucking, but more so for children. I lost a cousin to leukemia when he was 7 and I was 15. It was so sad.

Laurie - The drive in the 'Vette was terrific! DS enjoyed it too, and we managed to get home before the inevitable daily rainshower. Will probably try to go again sometime for chemo on Friday.

I had a nice day today. Managed 50 laps and then took a friend to lunch for her birthday. The six days that I feel really well tend to fly by, unfortunately. I usually try to get too much done then, but it's okay because I know I will spend several days after chemo sleeping.;)
