I need a straightforward decision as to whether or not to change July's book. I'll keep this poll up for three days and let you know by the end of that what's happening.

There are a few options

1. We can just leave it as it is and let those who want to read it do so

2. We can change for a much lighter book such as a chick-lit (the first suggestion I had after the problem became apparrent)

3. We can change and let thelittlemermaid83 choose a new book as she suggested the original July choice

I didn't plan on reading the next book after looking it up, I don't read chick lit however would be willing to give it a try.

I voted for sticking with the July book. Some people might have already bought the book.

I voted to let Emma choose another. Please no chick-lit though!;)

I've ordered this from the Library so will only cost me 50p if we change our minds - however, if I'm honest I have no idea what it's about so can somebody enlighten me.

The only books I refuse to read are about child abuse so unless it's about that I'll give it a go.

I think that's what it is about.

I've looked at a review on Amazon Amazon review for The Price of Love

It has got good reviews but I must admit I'm not intending to read it myself and I'm finding this month's a real struggle.

OK, the vote is split 2 to keep and 2 to change. As I've already kept one book that someone had suggested I change I'll have to accept Corinna's argument and keep this one too as people may already have purchased it.

I'd be grateful for suggestions as to how we can get a more balanced list for the next six months (which will need to be put together in September). Should we even have a 6 month list? Maybe we should just go 2 months ahead, perhaps we can "borrow" a published list or get ones that have been repblished especially for bookclubs (as was "Kevin"). Or should we have guidellines as to choice (very hard because everyone finds different things interesting.)

Anyway thanks for your input - I never realised how tricky this would be!

I like the idea of a six month list. You mentioned that you had book with questions for book clubs? Maybe that will help with a selection of books. Otherwise, I would think an idea might be to select 6 genres (i.e. Chick Lit, Thriller, Fantasy, Foreign Literature, Classic, Real Life) and then fill each category with possible titles. We could use a different category for each month and vote on one title from the list of titles per category.

Firstly - Many thanks Libby for sorting this out :thumbsup2

If I get the book in time from the library I'll give it a go as I would never have picked the other 2 books up and ended up enjoying them.

Perhaps we should have a few guide lines when suggesting books e.g. no child abuse etc - The person suggesting the book can then research the outline of the story.

If for any reason somebody feels they can't read a book they can still join in and give their reasons why - this in itself is interesting to those who did read the book and is a valid point- if that makes sense!

I agree we should add some of the classics as I was "made" to read Pride and Prejudice a few years ago and this has ended up being my favourite book and I've read it a couple of times now.

i brought last months book and hated it ...i never made it past the 1st couple of chapters !!

the whole point of a book club is that it should challenge and educate, if you dont fancy a particular book then nobody will mind if you dont read it

Right - I must apologise - I thought we were talking about this months book - Lucky - I still haven't got my copy to start reading yet!

Even when I looked at the link above I just thought this was for Amazon and then I looked up Lucky! Talk about being thick but I keep nipping on from work so not really concentrating!

Now I've realised what book we're talking about and I definitely won't be reading it - sorry - but I will read peoples reviews and thoughts.

i will give it ago, i have to say i find these personal stories to be thought provoking ( i often end up in floods of tears tho !)

Thanks for all your positive input. I thought this bookclub would be as easy as just starting a thread for it! LOL

I like the idea of a genre driven list. Also it was so much easier to discuss the bookclub edition of Kevin than the Peanut Butter and Jam even though I enjoyed the second book a lot more. So I think we should include at least a couple of bookclub editions or a couple from the bookclub bible.

I'm off to WDW at the end of July so I'll start thinking about putting together a list and a poll once I'm home again in August.
