I just finished reading "Kingdom Keepers" by Ridley Pearson and I just have to say, if you haven't read it yet, you should.

It was a great book and I just started reading it this morning and was unable to put it down. But I do have a few questions.

So, If you haven't read it yet... Stop reading here and go buy the book. Come back after you finish it and let me know if you have any answers to my questions.

If you have read it... Read on

Does anyone know if there is really any sort of connection between Walt Disney and MC Escher? Is there something similar to Escher's Keep in the castle? Does anyone actually know how to get to Walt's appartment in the castle?

Next, does anyone know how the garbage collection thing actually works in the Magic Kingdom? I know that they use the garbage shoot thing in the utilidors but, How does the garbage get there? A couple of weeks ago, I was in the Magic Kingdom and started investigating this because, it occured to me that I had NEVER seen anyone change a garbage bag out of a garbage can. So, I'm thinking well maybe they have a way of taking the garbage out beneath the garbage cans so that we don't see it. To test this theory, DH and I moved a garbage can in Tomorrow Land to find that it was normal everyday pavement underneath. HOW DO THEY DO IT???

Next, is there an appartment over the Firehouse? I don't remember ever reading anything about this but, as I told DH, Pearson describes everything so well that you can't help but wonder if, even the things that we are not familiar with, are true!

Next, Anyone have any idea who Amanda and Jess are in the book? He never really answered that question they just left it up to the reader. I have a few guesses but, I'd like to hear what you all have to say first. Maybe one of you know the answer without me having to guess.

Jail cells under Pirates?? I have to assume that that is not true but, is it based off some fact? Does anyone know what lies beneath? Is it just the normal Utilidors? Is there a tunnel connected to the Pirates playing chess?

Now, I'm always going to wonder when a ride goes down for refurb!!! You know that Buzz Lightyear is down right now... Makes you think!

My DH is currently reading the book and just turned to me and said that forever more when we ride "It's a Small World" we will have to ride with a big smile on our face!

Anyone know why the DHI's are so famous??? I mean we see tour guides and other cast members all the time and I never rush them for autographs. Any idea why suddenly these holographic people would be so famous? Is it just becuase it is a cool new technology? I really didn't understand that part although if nothing else, it helped other parts of the story make sense.

Do local schools really get bussed over for special events like MNSSHP? Do they pay the same price for tickets and is there a certain night that they do this? (may want to make future plans to avoid those nights!).

Private Parties inside the Magic Kingdom??? Do they really do this? If so, who is having private parties? How much does something like that cost? How do I get on the invite list?

Also, I saw on some other thread that someone said that it was the first book in a trilogy. Where did that information come from? I know that "Peter and the Starcatchers" is the first in a trilogy but, I can't find anything that says that this is as well. I hope so, because I tore through this book so quick that I am hungry for more!

Which brings me to another point... If you haven't read "Peter and the Starcatchers" yet, you simply must rush out and buy it! I have been a "Peter Pan" fan since birth. I have read JM Barrie's book at least 30 times and I can never get enough of it. It is an timeless tale, in many ways. I was skeptical when I saw that someone had attempted to write a prequal to a classic like "Peter Pan." While they do deter slightly from some of the facts written by Sir Barrie, They also manage to provide a valid possibility for so many questions left unanswered in the original. I loved the book and will recommend that anyone read it and then go read the original "Peter Pan" as well!

OK, that's all for now! I can't wait to hear your responses as I really want to know!!!

Now, if you haven't read the book yet but you continued to read to this point... Shame on you, now you have to go buy the book to find out what I'm talking about!

Oh boy...it was a great book!!!! I too have questions...going down tomorrow, and want to get 3-D glasses and ride Splash, Pooh..etc. and see if the letters exist....DD works for Disney, and I intend to find out about the trash, apartment over the firehouse, and Walt's apt. in the Castle! Hope to have some answers for us when I get home! I too hope this is part of a trilogy!

As for the cells under Pirates...maybe there are some "holding cells" for equipment????

Hi There!

I also loved the book! Have your emailed Ridley about how much you love it? He's also great for answering all those questions( well as long as it doesn't give too much away-there are still 2 more books coming) I think when he was researching for the book he did the Keys to the Kingdom tour at WDW. You can contact him by going on his website-He's a really wonderful guy!

I need to read that book.
I can't answer most of the questions, but I do know a bit about a few.

I have seen people empty trash bags from the trash cans. The bags went into a covered cart that the CM pushed, so except for the few minutes that it took to remove it from the trash can and put it into the cart, it was not visible. Most people probably walk by those CMs without really noticing them since there is so much other stuff to see.

I know there is an apartment above Main street at Disneyland. This site has a picture of the window. And someone posted pictures from the inside once on this board.

I have read that there was an apartment planned for Walt in the castle, but that it was never built (as he died before the park was completed. I read that the space was used for telephone operations for a while, then storage and now for a room where performers/characters can get ready and relax before going on. It apparently is right above the restaurant.

I just got this book! Anybody want to read it as a sort of a DIS Book Club thing? We could have great discussions!

Did anybody get the Gail Carson Levine book, Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg I think it is called?

I didn't read the spoilers, but I will be reading the book tonight! I know my brother read and enjoyed it.

We bought the book last month. DW started reading it. I haven't yet.

But I can at least partly answer this question. Yes, you can book MK for private functions. I seem to think the cost is in the 20-30K range depending on number of guests and what things will be open.

I only read the beginning of your post because I have not read this book yet. I picked it up for my DH for Christmas and we haven't had a chance to read it. I'm glad yu enjoyed it and now I can't wait to begin! :flower:

DS got Kingdom Keepers for christmas and I finally picked it up last night and started reading it - I plan to finish it today since I started it late last night. It is pretty good so far. I'm glad to hear that there will be more books.

A far as the trash pick up - I have seen CM's pushing a covered cart and putting the trash bags in that -so unless you see the CM taking the trash bag out and putting it in the cart you will miss it.

DD got Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Magic Egg for Christmas and I plan to read that one next. THis is about Tink.

I'll have to get Peter and the Starcatchers next. Thanks to the person that recommended it.

DD got this book for Christmas from Aunt Sandy...I scooped it up from under the tree Christmas night and started to read it. You're right, once you start you can't put it down. Great book!

I'm off to email him now!!

yes, local kids do go over for field trips. My DS is going to AK to learn about animal habitats.
We also have Grad night (May 5th this year) in MK and AK

I loved the book!!! :cool1: Any word on when the next book is coming out?

How does the DIS Book Club thing work? I don't know! I guess we just read and talk about it on a thread -- should I start one? There was an attempt at a DIS Book Club a few summers ago piloted by yours truly, but it flopped. At least we have a book now that we know we are all interested in!

I can't wait to get home from work and read that book!!!

Is Peter and the Starcatchers affiliated with Disney at all in the way that the other two are? I bought Kingdom Keepers and Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Magic Egg in Disney World.

Only 3 hours to go!

Sounds good to me! I'm just going to rename this thread the DIS Book Club review of Kingdom Keepers!

Peter and the Starcatchers is published by Disney and written by Ridley Pearson and Dave Barry. It is their interpretation of how Neverland came to be. I am going to buy the Fairy book next! Of Course, my whole family loves books and I already have hundreds that are waiting for me to read them right here in the house!

Let me know if you think that we should start a new thread devoted to a book discussion and if you think that we should start it on a different board. I started this thread on the Theme Park Attractions and Strategies and it was quickly moved! I really wish it could have stayed since those are really the people that are going to be most interested in the topics the book brings up! If there is a better location, then let's take it there!

I think the Community Board will be the perfect home, but things tend to get lost quickly... Anyway, I didn't yet get to start Kingdom Keepers, but I will tonight. I have Fairy Dust... but haven't read that one yet either and I really want to read Peter...

I am in the same boat where I have loads of books to read already, but it's okay if I buy "just one more." These sound like they are absolutely worth having. Way to go, Disney, on providing us with yet another form of entertainment!

I also want to read a couple of the books on Walt. Perhaps a Disney Themed Book Club? Hmm... ???

I can't wait to hear the discussion!
