We purchased originally in 2009 and then added on in 2018. All of the points were purchased direct.

Ehh. "Shouldn't" implies a value judgment in there, and I don't agree with that. Disney already profits once at initial sale of the DVC points, and current direct sales at anything other than CCV or Aulani are really 'direct resales,' and they're profiting a second time on those sales over their ROFR. Operating costs are covered by dues. When it comes to perks & benefits, Disney certainly doesn't offer them to initial buyers or 'direct resale' buyers charitably. If you buy an AP, or shop and dine at Disney, even if they give you a discount off those things you're still making them money. It's completely arbitrary to cut those perks off of secondary-market resale buyers but offer them to, say, someone buying 'direct' (but really still resale) OKW/SSR for $151/point.

They're a business that can choose to go for a cash grab if they so desire, but it's still a cash grab, not something that direct points buyers "should" have and peer-to-peer buyers "shouldn't."

Yes they’re profiting a second time. So is every other timeshare company out there. They profit twice. Once on original purchase and again on any resale plus dollars spent at their properties.

They’re all businesses and they’re all in business to profit. However the point of view I’m referencing is that of the buyer/owner. I didn’t and do not expect to receive the same perks as a resale owner in my other timeshare then those of the direct buyers.

And as with any timeshare that currently offers perks, they are not guaranteed perks. They can go away at anytime.

My opinion is that resale purchasers buy at significant discount. So limiting perks, or not giving perks to resale buyers makes more, rather than less, sense to me. No matter which way a buyer buys, they’re still getting what they paid for....a timeshare in the place they choose for when they want to travel is more a good thing than a negative thing. JMHO.

I have bought both ways, more points direct.

I have bought that way too and have many more points purchased direct versus resale. The final cost between direct and resale was always a factor for DH and I for all of our contracts except for the first one, BLT, which we purchased direct before it open. Believe it or not for many years purchasing direct was as cheap as buying resale for add on purposes.

That’s a good point. Back in 2000 we paid half or less than half of what resale is today . Same with the direct add on purchases as well. It was a different time...

Our first three contracts were resale, but the last one was direct because we wanted a fixed week at CCV.

Same, direct BCV and VWL, also direct BLT. Addons at BWV and BCV.
