I currently have cable and am thinking of switching to Direct TV. The promotions cover installation and equipment for 4 rooms. Can someone tell me what it is they actually do during the installation and how long it takes?

They will come install the dish to the side of your house, then test for sognal strength and move and test for signal strength then move then test for...lol you get what I'm saying. They will also need to drill a small hole into your house for the cable to fit into, from there it is a quick connect to the box, test of channels and your done.


in all it should take no more than 1 hour TOPS!!!!

I switched from Dish Network to DirecTV back in December.

We bought a new HDTV and needed to upgrade receivers. Dish wouldn't upgrade, so we went with DirecTV.

As far as the installation goes, they put up a satelite dish, ran cables from the dish to each of the receivers, and hooked everything up.

The time it takes will depend on how many TVs you have set up and where they have to put the dish. It could take anywhere from a couple of hours to 4 or 5 hours.

Thanks for the speedy replies! Sounds like I need to plan a day, just in case.... and board the dog who goes ballistic whenever there are repairmen in the house!

I'm hoping they don't have too many problems with placing the dish... I notice many of my neighbors have switched so hopefully the installer will have a better idea how to line it up for the best reception.

I'm so frustrated with my cable supplier, Cablevision, and the rate increases From what I've read, most folks seem happy with the price and quality of service from Direct TV.

We lovelovelove our DirecTV. The only time the satellite goes out is if there's a nasty storm with heavy cloud cover. And the customer service is great, we can always get a LIVE person to talk to fairly quickly (unlike the phone company, but that's a whole 'nother thread!)

Length of time depends on how many lines into the house you need. We have 3 direct tv boxes, all with dual lines for our tivo. Add to that a two story house, and neighbor trees. They ended up having to attach it to our fence and run it under the grass to the house. Of course its at the opposite side of the house then where the tv's are. It took the guy ALL DAY. He said it was the biggest, most complex install he had done. Leave it to my husband to make things difficult!
