Hi, We already are a DVC member, we purchased the contract through resale on December 2014, we are now considering to purchase more points (50~100points), since my contract was purchased on 2014, I'm grandfathered in most the perks (AP discount, dinning discount etc.) and the points we are considering purchasing isn't enough for the Cruise or the Disney Collection. So we are wondering if there's any advantage to purchase direct from Disney for us ?

The only condition I would buy direct, in this case, is if you want Poly or Aulani points, or are waiting for Copper Creek to go on sale.

Possibly if you really want your UY to match, it miiiiiight be worth buying direct for another resort, but I think the question becomes which resort, as some resorts the divide between direct and resale is more ridiculous than others.

The price difference for Poly likely won't make it worthwhile to go resale for if that's your resort you are looking at. On other small contracts it's just simply weighing the overall cost and availability. Both resale and direct as DVC might not have what you want. I'd say Aulani falls into that category too.

Thanks everybody's quick reply.
My current contract is at Bay Lake, looks like buying resale makes more sense.

Thanks
Likely but it depends. It really comes down to price and availability. If the difference isn't large and the points are available, I'd buy retail. For any other situation, I'd go resale. In practice terms that means that for 50 it might make sense for retail but likely not for anything else.

i would agree with the others. I fyou are alreasy grandfathered in for the "perks", then it really is purely a cost decision. what is the difference between buying retail (about $180 from what I see posted) and what you can buy resale. It appears that BLT is generally running under $120 per point, so it would seem an easy decision unless you can't find the UY you want.

Curious-- aulani is $85-95pp on the resale market. Why buy aulani direct? I think it's priced almost dbl direct?

I'm seeing AUL mostly at $100-120, with small contracts hitting the higher number. If you want a larger contract, resale may be a good option. For a smaller contract, they're priced higher and there seem to be fewer of them.

I must be out of touch with resale prices. For some reason I thought aulani was $90-95pp. Thx!

Finding a 50-ish contract with the right resort and the right Use Year may be difficult. And when you find them, by the time you'll call, they may be already sold. Small contract are sold for a premium and difficult to come by. (maybe we'll see more 25ers in the next years due to the change in perks rules, who knows).
You might also buy a contract with a different UY, but then you would have two different membership, you would have to track two different banking deadlines, to combine points you would have to transfer points from one contract to the other and so on.
Also, consider the closing costs and broker fees (some change them). This might reduce the gap as well between direct and resale.

On the other hand, with the money you would buy a 50-75 contract direct, you could buy 75-100 points resale. And if you're flexible if it would be easier to find a contract that fits your needs.
