Direct Exchange Dilemma

A question for you exchange experts:

I'm planning a trip to Hawaii next year and want to try to exchange for 2 different weeks. I have one Direct Exchange agreed already--exchanging a reservation on Maui for DVC points. That will presumably be done within the next few weeks, so that will be my one transfer out for this year.

I've found an owner of a second resort in Hawaii who wants points for a cruise, but now I have a couple issues/questions:

1) I can't transfer points out for the 2nd person until my next UY (April), right? Are there ever any exceptions made to the one transfer/year policy?
2) What's the latest regarding transfer of banked or borrowed points? I've seen previous postings on this board that indicates neither banked or borrowed points can be transferred, but the current handbook only indicates that borrowed points can't be transferred.
3) It looks like once I transfer points to another owner, he/she could bank the points. Is that correct?
4) The second resort for which I'm trying to work out a Direct Exchange also happens to be one of the Disney-recommended II resorts. I have a search through MS in place for that resort as well, but they haven't found a match. The owner with whom I'm interested in trading is a both a DVC owner and an owner of the Marriott for which I'd like to trade. Is there any way we could do this exchange via MS? (I know....I'm dreaming on that one, but it doesn't hurt to ask.)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Linda

Why wouldn't you both simply book reservations at your own resorts, name the other party as guests, and swap confirmation paperwork?

A direct exchange has nothing to do with transfers. In a direct exchange, someone books at their timeshare for you, and you book at yours for them. Transfers are only done ith DVC points betweem DVC members.

We can't simply make reservations for each other because the other owner wants to use the points to save up for a cruise. I'm not sure he has his cruise dates/reservations picked and I assume it'd be difficult to coordinate having me make a reservation for just one-two of his family members.

Agree.....it's not technically not a "Direct Exchange".....we'll call it a trade. The other owner is making a reservation for me. In exchange, I'd be transferring points to that owner.

Is the first person is a DVC member also. If not a and you're simply doing a direct exchange then you may not actually be using your one transfer for that y use year.f they are then you're probably stuck if you already made that transfer. If you haven't made a that transfer you may want to discuss with that person doing the reservation yourself and putting to them in their name rather than transferring points. I do not believe that member services will make an exception in this situation. You may however want to discuss with them.

Dean.....thanks for the suggestions. Yes, the first owner is a DVC member too. I already commited to her to do a points transfer and not a reservation, so that's as good as done.

I'm still working with the second owner to see if there's any way to work this out.

I will talk all this with Member Services and see if there are any options.

Thanks again!

Since all points have to be in one account for these type of exchange options, I doubt you'll find any workable solution to this issue. The only thing that my workout would be if you could to deal with two different use years on your account. Regardless I would discuss with member services to see if they would make any exceptions.
