I currently have two direct contracts, one with 150
points and the other with 50 points. I’m considering purchasing another 100 points direct. In the future, if I were to pass these contracts down to my two children - one would get the 150 point contract and the other would get the 50 + 100 point contracts, would they both get the direct member benefits with this split?

Yes, I believe as long as your next 100pt purchase happens during this period of time that member benefits begins at 150 direct points, your plan should be good. DVD can increase or decrease the minimum as they wish but these contracts will be grandfathered in at the 150pt level.

Are you certain of this? I was under the impression that if the current minimum direct contract for blue card status is 150 points, that is for a single contract. Combining of contracts to add up to 150 is news to me. If @bimmertt 50 point contract was purchased when 50 points qualified for blue card status, then you would currently have 2 blue card contracts. No need to purchase more for the second one.

I’m pretty sure this is the case. You can work your way up to the blue card minimum with smaller contracts, so you can have 3-50pt contracts under the same membership and get DVCY status, no need for the it to be a single 150pt contract. I think what it actually depends on is when your points were purchased and what the rules were during the time of purchase. But I’d defer to @Sandisw to confirm, she’ll know for sure.

The wording is something like "must maintain ownership of a minimum 150 points bought directly from DVD." So yes, a contract of 100 points plus a separate contract of 50 points, both bought directly from DVD when 150 points was the minimum to qualify for Membership Extras, would qualify.

Edited to add copy and paste from the DVC Member website (note the word "accumulate"):
Effective June 3, 2021, to obtain a Disney Vacation Club Membership Card, Members must accumulate a total of at least 150 Vacation Points purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc.

I have DVC-Y based on my recent purchase of three contracts totaling 302 points, split 138 pts, 114 pts, and 50 pts.

I also have DVC-Y with a 50pt & 100pt contract. Both purchased within the last 14 months, nothing grandfathered in.

Yes. My guide confirmed when we talked about Poly Tower points. And the last time Disney raised the amount there was notice so folks could buy if they wished.

I know others have answered, but I wanted to throw in a caveat since Use Years wasn't mentioned (this is rare, though)... The 100 points direct that you will be purchasing...make sure that it's the same UY as the 50 point contract. If you have a 50 point contract in one UY and 100 points in another, that creates 2 separate memberships that do not EACH accumulate to a total of 150 points, so passing those on to 1 child will not get them direct member benefits.

Is that for sure? (i dont believe that to be true)
I think as long as the owner has the points it should get the benefits.... but obviously not down the road, once they are split up and left to kids they wouldn't add up to 150.

I have 2 memberships: February for my WDW points, and December for Aulani. Same ownership, just a different UT. My February membership started with 150 points and has always been eligible for direct benefits.

My Aulani (December) started with resale and I initially added 50 points direct (I’ve added more since). When the Aulani membership still had only 50 points direct, it was not eligible for benefits. It wouldn’t show up to register for Moonlight Magic, purchasing AP’s, etc.

Even though I had nearly 200 direct points in my February membership by that time, in addition to the 50 direct in the December UY, the December membership wasn’t eligible until I reached 150 direct points there too.

I found this out because the first time I tried to register for a MM, I panicked because it said I didn’t qualify even though I had the February membership and had qualified before. It turned out that even though the December membership was 2 years newer, it somehow has a lower number and when I logged on to register for that MM the December membership number popped up instead of my eligible February number.

Interesting.
So technically you qualify, but not able to use the points that don't qualify for the benefits? I mean you would still get a discount on food, or whatever by them just seeing the Y in your acct right?

Just another reason I will always buy resale, none of that nonsense is worth it to me. lol

As long as you are eligible for membership extras, you are eliglble. When you register for MM, you have to enter the membership that the reservation is on, but the system will sometimes populate one of your membership numbers...and if it is not the right one, it says you are not qualified.

So, other than that, and making sure the right number is in there, you just need to have DVC Y on your card to qualify for any and all perks.

To add, though… if OP leaves two of their contracts (50 & 100 that are in different UYs/memberships) to one of their children, that child will not be eligible for membership extras because they do not have 150 qualifying points in the same membership. Correct? Going back to the original question about passing down ownership, I would definitely keep all points in the same UY so the “blue card” eligibility isn’t lost if the contracts are split up later.

Since all contracts will be direct, then the children would remain eligible if one gets the 150 point contract and the other gets a 100 and 50 since both would now meet the requirements since the 150 was the threshold when they were bought.

Whether they are in the same membership now doesn’t matter because once the deeds are transferred, the eligibility will be based on what is in the child’s membership.

New memberships will be created automatically no matter what when you transfer contracts so OP just needs to be sure each ends up with a total of 150.

If one got the 150 and the 50, and the other got the 100, then only one would still qualify.
