DS will be 9 at start of trip but will have his birthday while at Disney. How will the effect our dinning plan. Will he be considered a child for the whole trip? Do we have to not say he is 10, or have a birthday dinner? :confused3

I am not much on being dishonest, etc., however, since the child is at the cusp, I would use a child. Unless this child is a large eater, than I would opt of the adult cost.

Who determines this? You or the cast member/waiter/Hostess?

I was told it was the age DD was when we checked in and started our package.

We have the same situation we arrive 9/23 and my son's b-day is 9/29.

I was told they go by the child's age at the time of check-in, so they put him in as a child.

Then when I made my ADR's for my DS's b-day and said he would be turning 10, but was on the plan as a child, they said it was OK and he could still order off the child's menu.

I actually might call and change him to an adult on our reservation before we leave, because he is a big eater and is usually not happy with the kids offerings.

Do you think I can change him to an adult on our reservation??

Again to confirm it's age of check in.
As an aside , if your DS finds the kids meals not enough for him I would suggest making full use of the buffet and "family style" meals as he can have as much as he wants. If he's on the childs cost for the dining plan ( which he is entitled to as it's age at check in) he would have to eat from the childs menu at the other full service meals.
Buffets off the top of my head are Bomas, Chef Mickey's, Crystal palace, Cape May Cafe, Donald's breakfastasaurus, trail end buffetteria, 1900 Park Fare and Hollywood and Vine .
Family style is Ohana's, Whispering Canyon , Liberty tree tavern , Princess story book dining and Cinderella's Royal table.

I think there may be a few more. I know that the buffet style isn't to everyone's taste ( ;) ) but I think there is enough variety and choice there to offer plenty of choice without having to worry about paying the extra $25 per day to "upgrade" the child to adult food costs. Plus I think it would be a massive headache to have the child in the reservations computer system as an adult for food costs and a child for ticket costs. I'll lay $100 it would blow a fuse in the reservation systems LOL

I though tabout changing my son to an adult too, but with 2 adults I am sure we will have plenty to share with him. I thought he was considered 9 the whole trip, but wanted to know what others knew.

just as a side note from what I understand your server can not tell the difference between child credits and adult credits. I say they are what they are at check in let them order what they want.
