Hello, I am taking my first cruise in a couple months and signed up for a 5PM tasting that lasts an hour. However, we are on main dinner which starts at 5:45. Am I able to come to dinner late or should I just cancel the tasting?

A few minutes late should be fine. Let your servers know the night before to expect you a little later.

As the PP said, shouldn't be an issue.

Most of the Tastings I've been to are done in 30-45 min anyway. Usually they don't last the whole hour.

Coming in a few minutes late for dinner will not be an issue. My son and I did the beer tasting on the Fantasy right before dinner and it ran long as the bartender in charge was quite thorough and entertaining. We actually ended up going directly from the tasting to our dining room carrying a full mug of beer each courtesy of the bartender for answering some trivia questions. As dcassetta mentioned above, just let the servers (and any other people at your table, if you end up sharing a table with other passengers) know the night before so they will be aware and can get the drink orders for their other tables first.

And if you feel nervous about it, let your servers know and you can order the night before as well.

After doing a tequila tasting, I would cancel and get to dinner on time. Maybe your tasting will be better. On mine they had all of our shots poured and ready well before the tasting began. How much alcohol evaporates over an hour? Needless to say, I did not enjoy my tequila tasting.

What tasting is it? (Curious - that’s all). I agree with others - do not cancel and let your server know you might be a couple of minutes late.

How much alcohol evaporates over an hour?
Relatively little. At 40% ABV the water in tequila evaporates at about the same rate as the alcohol (which is to say not particularly fast) so as long as there's some liquid in the glass it should taste about the same (or better--most aged spirits are much better after breathing for at least 10-20 minutes). In a high proof tequila the alcohol will evaporate a little bit faster, but still not enough to be meaningful over the course of an hour.

I did the tequila/margarita tasting on my recent cruise, and I in no way felt any of the alcohol had evaporated from any of the cups! 🤣
