I know the dinner apparel debate will go on endlessly and I'm just adding fodder. How do I dress my 5yo son?

TIA,
Gina

We were on the 4-night and I dressed our 4-yo DS and 2-yo DS in khaki shorts and a short sleeved polo-type collared shirt every evening. They were comfortable and appropriate. Most of the other little boys we saw were dressed similarly; however, some were a bit less dressy (jeans shorts, etc.) and a few were more dressy (dress pants and long sleeve button-up shirt).

If we had been on the 7-night I would have brought a dressier outfit or two for the more formal evenings.

On our 7 night 5 yo DS wore a suit & tie on the formal night, and long pants & either a polo shirt or a button down shirt the other nights. I loved seeing all the little kids dressed up. This coming cruise who knows? He begged me to get him a belt last week when we were picking up some jeans for him & Sunday morning while getting ready for Church he said that he wants to wear a tie everyday.

When we cruise in November, DS 3 will be wearing pants and either a long sleeve or short sleeve shirt. He has lots of khakis for school, so it's not a problem. I'm not buying a suit and tie for a 3YO who will wear it once! DD 6, I'll probably buy a nice dress for her, but nothing too crazy. Also, the dining rooms are rather chilly, and I think a kid in shorts would be cold.

We took our twins on DCL at ages 3, 3 1/2 and 4. On each cruise I dressed DS in tan or navy shorts and a polo shirt. I even let him wear his tennis shoes-just made sure they were clean each night (it was either that or hear him complain all during dinner that he was wearing shoes that were uncomfortable). I did have a button down shirt for formal night. My rule was no denim or t-shirts at dinner.

For our cruise in July our DS 6 wore khaki type pants and either a polo shirt or button up. One night he did wear a tie and he loved it. I did let him wear his tennie shoes with his pants. They are a darker cooler and were fine. I did discover though that having him in khakis didn't go well with the chocolate from the mickey bars. After that I put him in navy blue pants.

we did the khakis and polo shirt route as well for our DS6. He wore nice dress shorts a couple nights also and he was fine. Dress them comfortably.
