Actually, our original dinner PS would have been for Pucks that Tuesday nite, except Pucks was hosting a private affair, so the restaurant was closed to regular patrons.
The Flying Fish proved to be a fine substitute!!
Our PS were for 6:00 and we arrived promptly. I was dreading being seated in the "Cabanna Room" but this nite we were in luck--it wasn't open!! It must be how I look or something, but in virtually our last 4 meals at FF, they always lead Uncleromulus to that back room. Are they trying to tell me something???
Our server that evening was Chris J. and he did a fine job. Good sense of humor, attentive and well versed in the FF menu. We wanted for nothing and the meal was well paced. I now have a confession--I have forgotten what beer I ordered!! Almost unheard of, but for some reason I can't recall. Not that it was anything special--that 'Flying Fish" Ale they used to carry is long gone, so I suspect I had Bass, or Sam Adams. I know--Mrs U didn't write it down in her "daily log"--I'll blame her :D :D
BY the way--she had a glass of Reisling to begin, then a glass of Chardonnay that was "paired"' with her meal.
Her appetizer was the Steamed Mussels, with Oriental Coconut Curry Sauce and Sourdough bread. She loved it and when last I looked, was still mopping up the curry sauce with the bread!! I had the "Peeky Toe" Crabcake with Flying Fish Slaw. THis one's been on the menu for a long while. The crabcake is sweet and tasty and the slaw has a bit of a zip. It won't make you forget a Md. style Cake, but as an appetizer, it's fine.
Mrs U selected the Wood Fired Scallops for her entree. These are served with Basil Risotto, Confit Currant Tomatoes, and Sweet Onion filled Piquillo Pepper. Nice sized scallops and very delicious. Only thing--there were but 4 scallops. For $33.00, I think a fifth (or sixth) scallop would have been in order----. $8.00 per scallop seems a bit steep---.
For my entree, I selected from the Chef's Thunder and ordered (yet again ) Halibut. As I said once before, halibut is halibut. This was served roasted in Lemongrass tea, with Bokchoy, mushrooms and leeks. Quite tasty and at least the skin was off!! I didn't like it enough to wish it a permanent part of the menu tho-
Desserts were excellent--for me, the trio of house made sorbet. THis nite they had Strawberry-Basil, mango, and Concord Grape. Mrs U had a chocolate souffle. Souffles aren't easy to come by, and she really enjoyed this one.
Two coffees ended the dinner and we left with a sense of another fine meal under our belts.
Dress and kids report--a fair # of kids that evening, including several in the toddler range. Dress seemed mostly "resort casual", but as always, a # of theme park casual and a lot of shorts. No sportcoat/dresses that I could spot---.

Uncleromulus,

Love your dinner reviews! Great job as always.

Could you briefly rank your top 5 places to in at WDW?

Thanks,

Another good one ~ Thanx for sharing.

Thanks for the review. I've enjoyed them all, and always keep an eye out for yours. Hope you're going back soon...

Julie

I just wish it were sooner than next May!! Oh, to live near WDW--

caverill-
The top 2 are easy-- V&A, followed by Jiko.
The next 3 are a little "less sure" as there are plenty of other good spots from which to choose.
But I would have to say Citricos at #3, Califiornia Grill at #4 , and Narcoosee's at #5.
But should add that we had a fine meal at Blue Zoo this trip, and also at Pucks Upstairs. Once we go back for a second visit, one or both of them could move up!!!

Am I correct in thinking the menu hasn't changed much? We'll be there on Sunday and was hoping for something new. Guess I'll be heading the steak route. They really do a fine one there.

Okay, now with all these excellent reviews, how in the world am I supposed to decide where to eat? I know, I'll just keep going back to WDW until I can fit them all in!

Did you ever figure out how much money you would have saved on dining if you had the Disney Dining Experience Card for Florida residents:D 20% off all (most) of your meals.

Proably would have paid for the move down to FL.;)

Now you've done it--!!
Actually I am retired and COULD move to Florida. But Mrs U works for McCormick (the spice folks) and has a few more years to go before she can retire. Maybe then--

The menu did have a familiar "ring" to it, even tho it's been a few trips since we did FF--.

Thanks for the review! Glad Mrs. U enjoyed the scallops as I think that could be one of the worst entree's I have ever had.

Thank you for another great review. I'm definately going to try FF for my honeymoon trip.

The desserts you had sound so yummy, especially the Concord Grape sorbet. Let's hope they still offer this at FF for our next WDW trip (no date yet).

There's a place here in Palo Alto that serves White Grape ice cream. We have to drive a long ways to get it. Maybe we'll do that this weekend.

Another fine review. FF is one of those spots we've never tried. Whenever we check out the menu we decide there are too many other favorite restaurants to return to and decide to try FF some other trip. Are any of the fish dishes simply prepared?

Actually my halibut was rather simple in preparation--not overly sauced, etc. And as with most places, I imagine a request to leave "everything off" the fish would be honored.
