I thought I read somewhere about a meal at jiko or boma including a nighttime viewing of the animals. Did I make this up? Is this only for AKL guests?

Thanks!

I have heard of night-vision goggles being available for Animal Kingdom Lodge guests, but it's not a perk that comes with a meal at either Jiko or Boma. Also, neither restaurant has "views" of the animals on the savannah during daylight hours.

ETA: I should clarify, the night-vision goggles and the views from Sanaa at Kidani Village are two separate things.

Both Jiko and Boma are at AKL Jambo House, and as the other poster stated, they don't offer views of the animals. At AKL Kidani Village (which is about a 10 min. walk or short bus ride from AKL Jambo House) the restaurant Sanaa offers views of animals. I'm excited because we're trying this restaurant out for the first time on our next trip! In regards to the night vision goggles, they are for guests of Animal Kingdom Lodge to view the animals at night. I could be wrong, but I would think if you booked a late dinner at either Jiko or Boma you could go to the viewing areas and see the animals as well. I've never stayed at AKL, so I'm not certain if using the vision goggles is just a perk for AKL resort guests. I would think anyone could do it, though, if they were willing to stay there that late. Someone will come along and say if that's not allowed, like the pool hopping.

Neither restaurant has animal viewing but the night view goggles can be found at certain times at the Arushka Rock viewing area. It won't matter if you're an AKL guest or not.

From the restaurants, no, only the 2 legged kind. The only view from Boma and Jiko are of the AKL/Jambo pool area.

Anyone can go outside and use the night vision there, it's not just for restaurant patrons or resort guests.

Sanaa (at AKV) does have views of the savannah but pretty much nothing is visible outthe windows after nightfall.

We had Christmas dinner at Boma in 2010 and after dinner walked out to see the animals. We saw some zebras and a couple of other animals. Then we sat by the fire outside and warmed up. I'm not sure about the night vision goggles, but there were a couple of CMs outside. We stayed off-site and weren't limited in the animal viewing in any way. We walked around AKL and had a fantastic evening!

We dine at Boma every trip and simply walk outside to see the animals. It's a nice viewing area and open to anyone. There are usually 1-2 CM's there to talk to about the various animals, etc.

I believe you may be thinking of the Wanyama Safari. It is a small group safari tour followed by dinner at Jiko. I think it meets around 4:00 to start the tour. It is only available to guests of AKL and AKV.

You're not out on the savanna viewing the animals at night, though, the tour takes place in daylight with dinner afterward.

Yes, like I stated, the tour starts around 4:00. However, it is sometimes referred to as the 'Sunset Safari'. Maybe that is because the resort also has a 'Sunrise Safari'.

I thought I read that the Sunset Safari was only for concierge level guests. Is that correct?
