We also want to check out the hotel and grounds, so if it's rushed when just eating and not staying there we might park at Disney Springs and take a bus over, or, can we show up to the hotel a few hours early to just hang out, check out the bars, and walk around a bit?

(This isn't a Disney trip, its a dinner only event while in the area)

Parking is technically allowed for three hours while visiting the resort. I don’t think you’ll have a problem showing up and hour or so early.

no worries at all here..... it's not near enough to a park to cause parking issues. You can show up anytime- we usually bus over with no car, but it's easy to spend a few hours here relaxing and walking around, it's so pretty!

Agree with the others. The parking area is fairly large at this resort so it's typically never a problem to show up at least 2 hours prior to your ressie.
You'll need a minimum of an hour to explore this resort in my opinion. It's my home resort so I'm there often as a DVC member and I still burn an hour easily just walking around and taking it all in.
If you are there after dark, go back out on the the savannah behind the pool and be sure to check out the night vision goggles there. It's amazing and free!

Park at the resort and stay as long as you want.... They say 3 hours but never check walk around and enjoy the resort.... its great !!!!

??? How do I get night vision goggles? That sound neat.

Just go out to the savannah behind the pool. It's marked. At a specific time, there will be a cultural representative who has a few pairs of glasses to share. They are sanitized but there are only a few pairs of them so you might have to wait in line. It's well worth it and everyone is normally very conciderate with their time using them. They do this at both Jambo and Kidani but the viewing is better at Jambo as the savannah is darker so the animals are more easily seen.

Agree with the others that parking here (at any time) won't be an issue. Tell the guard you're dining at Boma later and just want to look around first. It won't be a problem at all.

We always go easy to check out the resort. The gift shop has some items unique to AKL.

We went this weekend to see the Christmas decorations at every resort. I always explained to the guard at the gate what we were doing. Some places waved us right in, others were very strict and gave us time limits. (I honestly didn't try on the monorail line, just parked at TTC). The security guard at AKL told us to enjoy ourselves and to take our time.
