Seeing as how a lot of the morst sought-after restaurants appear to be completely booked during the free dining promotion, is it possible to still get in without ADRs? Like if you're willing to wait, will you be able to and eventually get seated or is it out of the question? I'm specifically talking about Ohana here, but as a general overview, how does this work?

TIA!

If it is booked I wouldn't expect to get in w/o an ADR. I'd keep trying before the trip and even once I arrived if it was that important to eat there. We saw many people turned away w/o ADRs in 2007. Yes, even a dinner place like Hollywood and Vine turned away those w/o ressies.

I would not count on getting seated at Ohana w/out an ADR during free dining; it's often over crowded even during the rest of the year, and they often turn people away without reservations.

The only thing I would suggest is to show up before opening and see if you can get on the list to wait. Or make an ADR, keep trying back if necessary.

Highly doubtful. Many (if not most) will not accept any walk-ups during free DDP. Guess it depends on how much they are overbooked on a given night.

Not saying it's not worth trying but I would be realistic about your expectations.

When we were there in March, it wasn't free dining, but none of the restaurants we had ADRs at were accepting walk-ups. They were all full.

If you have time, try going onto the ADR on-line booking a few times a day until your trip. I started out a few weeks ago with restaurant choices I was less than thrilled with, but over this past week the ones I really wanted (including LeCellier!) apparently had cancellations and popped up! I've read of this happening to others, so persistence and eternal hope do pay off at times!:goodvibes

Definitely not the answers I was hoping for, but certainly good to know. I wil keep trying for Ohana's and hope for some Mickey magic. If not, we have plenty of other great places booked already. :wizard:

try calling from your resort room every morning... and every evening (if you get in in time)... another option would be to show up a few minutes prior to opening and hope to be squeezed in!

We were there in early May and the parks were not that crowded, but we saw many people without ADRs get turned away from the popular places. Keep getting online and trying. Maybe something will come up. During free dining, I would at least keep trying to get some back up ADRs so you aren't stuck with CS all week.

Generally it doesn't happen often. Most popular places in the themeparks even put signs out that say something like "Reservations only No walk ups are being taken today"...You can always try and keep calling, I am not sure i would waste park time going to the restaurant and checking, but that is up to you

When you get to Disney call the night before or that morning that you want to eat b/c people then to change their schedule around or kids get too tired and people cancel...we cancelled Chef Mickey 2 hours before our meal b/c my son was still napping so we ended ordering room service. Good luck.

I have to agree with the majority here. DW and I were at VWL in early-December. We never used to make ADR's. That trip we didn't get into one restaurant!

Lesson learned.

On Sept 14 07 during free dining there was a sign up at MK saying no restaurants in MK or at any of the MK resorts had any availability that day. It was a Spectromagic day plus was the grand reopening of HM after a long refurb, but it still was a Thursday. This would include the Poly, Grand Floridian, Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge. I've seen the sign in Epcot saying no availability in the park, and there are a dozen TS at Epcot. Make ADRs or be prepared to eat a lot of CS.

Just wondering...where were the signs in MK and Epcot stating there was no TS availability in any of the restaurants??
We have been able to get into chef Mickey's twice (not during free dining and we weren't on the dining plan) without reservations. Once we showed up about 20 minutes before the restaurant opened (I think they open around 5) with a party of four and we were seated about twenty minutes after our arrival. Another time we just showed up with a party of six and again were seated about thirty minutes after arriving. This was on two seperate trips and I believe one was in January and one was over spring break in 2007.

I've seen those signs before at MK - they were out near the front gate somewhere around the turnstiles or the tunnel, if I recall right.

o.k., have to disagree jusst a teeny bit here. We were there for a week of free dining last year, starting on Labor Day weekend. Our first night was Sunday of Labor Day weekend, so MK had EMH until 2 a.m. We had ADRs for Liberty Tree at 5:15 or so. When we entered MK they had that sandwich-board sign out two different places on Main Street -- in front of the Town Hall, and all near the entrance to that bunch of stores that runs the length of Main Street. It said there was no availability at any of the Magic Kingdom restaurants, and listed them all...LTT, CP, The Plaza, etc. BUT when we went to check-in at LTT, it was about 5:05...and they were taking walk-ups. The people in front of us were walk-ups & so were the two parties behind us. All were told it would be 10-15 min. We were seated within a minute ortwo, and the walk-up parties were seated within 2 minutes after us. The restaurant was mostly empty at that time. There was no one waiting to be seated when we checked in. So I guess the moral of the story is if you have no ADRs, try going to the restaurant right when it opens, they may be able to get you in with a reasonable wait, even if the signs are out saying reservations only. Now I will say by the time we left LTT, around 6:15, the waiting area was mobbed, and there were a lot of people out on the street outside with pagers waiting for their tables. So it really was all booked up, just apparently the early bird was able to get a worm...and we saw the same thing happen at several other restaurants during the week, too. We tend to like the early dinner seatings, so often are at the restaurants around 5:30...almost always saw them take walk-ups at that point. Not after 6:00, though (and not at Le Cellier in Free Dining. But we did see them taking walk ups at Le Cellier in January when the parks were incredibly empty.)

I would not recommend going without ADR's. If you have internet access just continually keep trying for ADR's you want. It will make you trip less stressful if you have everything in order before you go. ;)

Generally an exception and not a rule and it can not be counted on.

A couple of years ago, my husband an I were down there in Sept for free dining. One day he decided to change my itinerary and go to Epcot that day. I called before leaving our room that morning and just asked the CM what might be available anywhere in Epcot that night. The only restaraunts that had an opening were Marrakesh and Biergarten and only at like 8:30pm.

The sign at MK with no availability was in front of City Hall. At Epcot it flashed on the electronic boards with wait times.
