Dining with the Fairy's

I remember that buffet at DHS! We had a great chat with Aladdin there once, many years ago.

Personally I'd like to see a "rotating" meal based on the current movie if there is one or just rotating Disney and Pixar if there isn't. For example, now they could have the Bolt characters (who are pretty gender neutral), and at other times they could rotate through The Incredibles, Toy Story, Monsters, Ratatouille (I hesitate to say Chicken Little and Meet The Robinsons since I think those two movies were the pits...but maybe those too since they are more recent). Wall-E would be cool but not sure how they could that one off.

i would be ALL OVER a star wars themed restaurant character dealie-oh or like a BBB but with makeovers for boys that included pirate or star wars or whatever...omg i would TOTALLY LOVE that-jeez can you tell im a mom of just boys and i get excited over this? LOL.

oh and i forgot to add-nah i dont think fairies would be that awesome-but my husband would disagree :)

Oh gosh yes!!! My DD5 would absolutely FREAK if he could get a Jedi make-over!! Something more than a little colored hair gel in Cinderellas castle... They could still get hair gelled but include a jedi or a storm trooper costume & build a light saber like you can in Downtown Disney! Ahhh-its too bad we're not in charge!! ::yes:: ::yes::

I think both ideas sound wonderful.

Can you imagine how far in advance you'd have to call to dine with Tink, or some of the pirates?

Personally, I wouldn't want to share my pirate. I'd want a romantic dinner with him alone. (that is providing he looked like Johnny Depp). ;) Come to momma...

Oooooooh baby-I would pay GOOD money for that!
It sounds strangely like a dream I had the other night....If only I had a :genie: mmmmmm....

Oh I do! Soundstage Restaurant...It was a buffet and Jafar, Genie and Aladdin were there, and I think you went upstairs to meet Mickey or something....

We've eaten there too. It had kind of a creepy warehouse feel to it. I definitely wasn't mourning for it, when it closed. ;)

Disney is just starting the big push towards the 7 - 12 year old market with the Fairy franchise, so if you don't think they are gonna come up with a Fairy dining experience, you're naive imo.

If/when they do, why not use it to replace either the Cindy dinner at 1900 Park Fare or the Stitch thing at Poly.

Having said that, I totally agree that a character meal catering to boys is way overdue. I would vote for a pirate: meal over at the CBR maybe. Seems like the most logical place but not sure if Shutters would be adequate for that.

IMHO, 1900 PF's dinner is the princess meal that appeals to a larger demographic. If they're going to get rid of one, I'd like to see them switch Akershus back to a Norwegian restaurant. I don't see that happening though, so I won't hold my breath. ;)

NOOOOOOO Leave Stitch alone! My older daughter loves Stitch he is great with older kids and boys. I don't care about 1900 but not Stitch!

I don't have a boy but I agree that the boys need a character meal. CM appeals to the little boys but the bigger boys need something too.

I have 2 girls and we are doing Akershus and CP as well as CM. They are both waaaaay into the fairies right now too. All that said, I think a gender-neutral restaurant would be awesome. I love the Peter Pan idea. We would definitely be there. Pixar could be good too, especially if it gets a new (better) restaurant to DHS.

I think this is the biggest obstacle for WDW to overcome, before adding a boy's character meal. Girls of all ages, from 1 to 100, want to be a princess & live in a castle. Most boys aren't interested in character meals by the time they get to middle school/junior high. None of the above suggested characters would interest any of the preteen/ teenage boys & men I know. (I'm not trying to be mean just honest.) OTOH, all girls & women I know would love to be a princess for a day or longer. ;)

If they came up with an idea the older boys & most adult men would like (i.e. Mad Hatter, Stepmom, & Stepsisters, etc. aka funny characters) the younger boys wouldn't like it as much. The same is true in the reserve. As of now, it seems there's just not any characters all males (1 to 100) would like enough to fill a restaurant on a consistent basis. Sadly, as our boys grow up, they no longer like Power Rangers, Toy Story, etc. :( The ones who are still into pirates & Star Wars usually have dads that are into it too. I doubt there's enough in that demographic to consistently fill a restaurant though. To be honest, if I were a WDW CM who was tasked to create a character meal that all males of all ages would enjoy, I'm not sure I could produce a successful product with the options they now have. Just a though!

Tarheelmjfan might be on to something... what about a Star Wars meal? I know DH would make me go! LMAO

As for why I think Disney probably won't have a fairy meal - fairies are still supposed to be very very small. In order to see them in pixie hollow you have to go through the shrinking forest and become teeny tiny yourself. Disney could make a restaurant like this but it would have to be COMPLETELY redone or brand new and I don't think they will go to the expense unless the fairy merchandise goes crazy and becomes bigger than the princesses.

Major problem, after they shrunk you they would have to serve you really really tiny portions and than after you get unshrunk you would have eat again because you such a small amount of food. :)

Wait this would be a geat way for Disney to make even more money. :thumbsup2

When I said older boys I didn't mean high school. I meant 9,10, 11 yr olds. I strongly disagree that boys wouldn't be as interested as girls. Having a star Wars meal would attract many many boys/men of all ages and I am sure it would fill no problem.

If the boys have to sit through the princess meals the girls have to sit through the star wars meal.

Well, my first reaction to the fairies was YES! That would be great. I know a little girl who would just LOVE it. No, she's not mine, she's a friends and I have FOUR boys. I DO think that Disney needs to give the boys some character meals they can enjoy as much as girls enjoy the princesses(even wrote to disney about a Pirate meal). I could get very excited for someone like my friend and her daughter who would LOVE that dining experience.
Gotta say, I really like the Peter Pan idea, Pirates, and by far my favorite idea-Star Wars! Man, my boys-even the 41 yr old ;)-would LOVE that meal. My boys are 17, 16, 13, and 6 and they would all enjoy that-oh and the 6 yr old would love the Star Wars BBB! I hope Disney is lurking and gets some great ideas! :lmao:

What about more of a "themed restaurant" type experience? A Pixie Hollow restaurant...the fairies wouldn't actually be there "in person", but they could have animatronic ones, twinkling lights, fairy sounds, etc. That way, the fairies could be fairy sized and it would have more of a restaurant feel than a buffet type situation.

They could also do the same sort of thing with the Pirates, Star Wars, and the Pixar movies. Something kind of like the Rainforest and TRex Cafes. You could have the "wow" factor in the decor and atmosphere and you wouldn't have to wait on characters. You could enjoy your meal at your own pace.

BTW, I really like the Peter Pan idea too! I thought that was a great idea.

I think a fairy 1 would be great but I agree that there should be some more for the boys. :)

Problem with a SW meal is that George Lucas would have to sign off on the whole thing as well. I don't see that happening. I think Disney's best bet for a boy friendly character meal lies with Pixar.

I think a lot of the controversy over the lack of boy themed character meals is because they have 3 princess meals. If there was only one princess meal, it probably wouldn't seem as bad. That may also be why some people really dislike the idea of a Tink & friends meal. They see it as adding another meal aimed primarily at little girls and still nothing for little boys.

I have to agree that little boys are underserved with the character meals.

That being said, my DD would go over the moon if she could eat with Tinker Bell. We have a ressie for Akershus, and she's looking forward to it, but she keeps going on and on that she's going to eat with Tinker Bell (even though I keep explaining that she's not...).

And my DH would go CRAZY for a Star Wars meal. I think it would be his top priority for the whole trip.

Light saber fruit kabobs, anyone? Yoda-colored pistachio pudding?

I remember a rumor floating around somewhere last year about a pirates of the carribean themed restaurant, potentially in the fantasyland area. I wonder if that's still being tossed about?
