We just returned from our trip last night and I figured I’d jump right into my favorite part-
the food.

We rented points from a DVC member so I took advantage of being able to book the DXDP on certain nights.

We had 9 nights total.
Nights 1-3 DXDP, 4-6 oop, 7,8 DXDP, 9 OOP Since the dining plan last through midnight of the day you check out only days 5 and 6 were completely OOP. Did I lose anyone yet? It all made sense in my head, but please don’t ask me to try to explain.

Pretty much everywhere we ate was booked for DD6. We most likely won’t be able to get back to Disney for a few years so we wanted to do all the character meals and kid places she wanted since I doubt she’ll want to when we return. Fancy restaurants and signatures can wait for a solo trip that I dream of.

Here is where we ate:

Sci-fi dinner(plus Steak and Shake)

'Ohana Breakfast

'Ohana dinner

CRT Breakfast

Crystal Palace Dinner

Chef Mickey's Breakfast

Sanaa-cancelled Everything Pop/Mara

DXDP for 3 nights- costs/savings

Discovery Cove-breakfast and lunch

T-rex Dinner

Tuskerhouse Breakfast

Pop/snacks

Boma breakfast

Mama Melrose dinner

Akershus breakfast

Captain's Grill dinner

Cape May Breakfast

Beaches and Cream

Last Disney breakfast

DXDP take 2 totals

There was also some counter service and many snacks along the way. I tried to take pictures of everything but missed a few things. DH and DD did not like me taking pictures of their food and tried to cover it a few times. I did a good job keeping track of the TS costs but might not have every CS exact amount.

Looking forward to your reviews! I leave Sunday for a trip with just me and DD6! I'm torn between doing all character meals for her or throw in a couple of signatures for me. Usually I have 3 other kids plus a DH, so we don't even throw in a table service except for a character breakfast here or an Ohana dinner there.

ETA: Oh which were your favorites (without spoiling the fun for everyone) :)

I was actually very happy with the way our dining plans went this year. I would have liked to try Jiko and Tutto but figured I would wait until the next trip when DD is older.

Favorites are a tough call- I loved Tuskerhouse. The food was excellent and the coffee was very good. Cape May and Akerhsus were pretty good as well. Cape May was much more laid back, but if a girl likes princesses Akershus is the place to be.

sounds like some good stuff, I am in :goodvibes

Diane, I can't believe you are back already. I'm joining in for these because I've already changed some of mine and I'm still not happy (especially after some of the reports I've been getting from Nicki).

We arrived at MCO right around lunch time and we were all very hungry. I wanted to head right to VWL and dive right into some delicious Disney food but DH loves to ruin my plans. Instead we headed to Steak and Shake.

We don’t have these in CT so we love eating here when in FL. Even better I was able to get a $25 gift card from Mypoints.

DH had the double cheeseburger with fries.

DisneyMay2011onSony012.jpg

I had a single cheeseburger with bacon. I also had fries and added another side of onion rings.

DD had the mini burgers.
DisneyMay2011onSony011.jpg

DH and DD devoured their food, but my burger was covered in way too much mustard so I ended up giving most of it to DH. We were still hungry so we ordered 3 slammers and fries. We each had one of the little burgers and spilt the fries.
The total was 23.75

Our first actual meal at Disney was Sci-fi. Caitlin loved this place last time and requested to eat here every day. Instead I booked it to be our first and last meal at Disney.
DisneyMay2011onSony050.jpg

I knew months in advance what I would order. Doesn’t every diser?
Onion rings, cheeseburger, cookie shake and diet coke.
It didn’t quite turn out that way. After the big meal at Steak and Shake we weren’t that hungry and I wasn’t in the mood for a burger or onion rings again. I figured since we would be back later that week I would have that meal that night.

I ordered the butcher steak with red wine sauce, garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables(which turned out to be my favorite-asparagus).

Dh ordered the burger off the lunch menu to be split with DD. He also ordered a shake for his dessert and gave that to DD. We decided not to get DD her own meal b/c DH wasn’t going to eat much after his large lunch.

I ordered the cheesecake to go. On the menu it just says – Cheesecake with raspberry sauce. I was expecting a slice of regular cheesecake with some red sauce. Instead I got the yummy cheesecake/ red velvet cake I had seen earlier on the food porn thread.

Overall I really liked my meal. The only thing I didn’t like was the sauce, the steak was good on it’s own so I just found it unnecessary. I would definitely order this again if I wasn’t in a burger mood. The cheesecake was okay. I liked the cheesecake part much better than the cake. I pretty much just ate around the cake part and tossed the rest.

DH and DD enjoyed the burger and the milkshakes at Sci-fi are always good.
Overall we might return. We ended up changing our other Sci-fi ressie b/c DD has decided that DHS too boring and she doesn’t want to go there anymore. Once she made this announcement I quickly changed Sci-fi to Tony’s so that we could spend our last night in MK.

We used 2 dxdp credits. When I booked the dxdp I did not intend to order stuff just to order it. We weren’t that hungry so we skipped appetizers.
Our total was 58.09. The bill confused me a bit since it still had the shake under DD. I asked our server and he said everything was covered under the 2 credits. Not sure why it looked like it wasn’t on the receipt.

ooooh you have some good places there :)

i'm joining in!!

:welcome:
Thanks for joining in.

sounds like some good stuff, I am in :goodvibes

:welcome:

I was worried no one would want to read about our meals. But I figured we couldn't be the only people who actually like these types of places at Disney.

Diane, I can't believe you are back already. I'm joining in for these because I've already changed some of mine and I'm still not happy (especially after some of the reports I've been getting from Nicki).

I can't believe it either.

I can't wait to read Nicki's reviews. When I was bored in line I would check the disney dining line to see what was available for that night just in case next trip we decide to wing it. I was surprised to find that I could get just about anything with the exception of Le Cellier. I guess people must change plans at the last minute and cancel. I can't wait to see where they ended up.

Can't wait!popcorn::

What a great review so far! Thank you for taking the time to post and put in the pictures!

Diane, great reviews so far. We have Steak & Shakes here and we've not been in a couple of months....I'm thinking this would be a good place for dinner tonight. :goodvibes

Glad you enjoyed Sci Fi; I love the onion rings and shakes there. I can see why you weren't that hungry after all the food you ate at Steak & Shake. And I'm with your daughter -- I find the Studios boring after a couple of hours myself (it is definitely my least favorite park).

Great reviews so far!! Looking forward to more of them!!! YAY!!!

Thank you! I always find dining reviews extremely helpful when picking places so I try to return the favor.

I was a bit bummed that I never got to have my burger with onions rings, but Steak and Shake had great onion rings too. I am sad we will be skipping Sci-fi next trip but we probably won't be spending much time in DHS.

Thank you:flower3:

WOw your steak at Sci FI looks good! Cant wait to read more..

I was surprised that it was very good. You don't hear too much about food at Sci-fi other than the burgers. I saw many of the people around us had ordered it too.

They start you off with 2 kinds of bread. I wasn’t able to get a picture of both since DH snatched one up as soon as they put down the basket. One is a pineapple bread- the other I think is cinnamon but DH grabbed it before I could be sure.

You also get a small fruit plate. I love Disney fruit. It is so much tastier than what we have up here.

We all had some of Stitch’s crazy juice(is that the name?) This is the same juice they have at Tuskerhouse and Boma, I believe. Caitlin loved this last year and hated it this year, so she stuck to milk the rest of the trip.
They bring you the hot plate which contains eggs, sausage, bacon, and potatoes. Oh, and some biscuits. Someone walks around and gives you Mickey waffles.

You see Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto

We used 3 dxdp credits

The food was very good. Everything was hot and fresh. I didn’t love Mickey waffles last year but they much better this trip. I didn't like the sausage last year either but that seemed to taste better this year too.

This is DH’s pick for his favorite character breakfast followed closely by Cape May.

Nice review of Ohana. We've never been. Well we've not been since they changed it from Minnie's Menehue Character Meal to the one it is currently called and they changed it from buffett to family style. I don't eat eggs or biscuits so it would be a waste on me (and we aren't fans of Stitch). Caitlin looks really happy with the characters, especially Pluto. :goodvibes

Thanks for the Sci Fi review!

I am glad to see that it was easy for you to split with your child and not use credits (we plan on doing the same at Sci Fi)

Caitlin loves Pluto. She got into Disney characters when she used to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Pluto was always her favorite. She was always carrying around her stuffed Pluto. She used to play with our dog and say "I'm Mickey Mouse and you're Pluto. Good boy, Pluto" It was so adorable. Can you tell I miss those days? These days she won't say he is her favorite but she always got pretty excited when he was around.:goodvibes

Great reviews so far! Your dd is adorable!

Thank you. I love dining reviews and am glad I can help out others.

I was so happy we could. Especially with the dxdp it is way too much. Even if we were hungry we still would have used only 2 credits b/c the appetizers would have filled us up. We ended up using a credit for a cs lunch later in the trip which was nice.
