Just got back from WDW last week. We were there for about 9 days, 5 of those days on the dining plan (split our stay between the WL and SOG). I thought I would share some thoughts with my fellow DISers, since I always appreciate recent reviews.

In our party were myself, my DH, our 3 kids ages 9, 5 and 2, and my parents.

Arrival night at the WL- we had a 7:30 ADR at Whispering Canyon, one of our long-standing favorites. This is our 5th time eating there. And unfortunately, I am not sure we will be back for awhile. Service was SLOW. The waitress was nice, but slower than molasses- I'm not sure what the deal was. My sons got a milkshake as their drink, as did my dad- very tasty. After we got our drinks, our appetizers (salads) took some time to get here. But it was the time between the appetizers and the entrees (DH, DS#2 and I got the skillet, parents got the steak, and DS#1 got a burger). I mean, at least a good 20-25 minutes or so. Then the food was just 'eh'. The burger we ordered my son came with cheese when we reiterated NO CHEESE PLEASE, the skillet food was not hot, ribs were tough and too saucy; it was just a real disappointment when we have just LOVED it so many times before. Then it took quite awhile to put our dessert order in- my kids were bored to tears and my 2 year old was getting really crabby, so I went back to the room and asked DH to get our desserts to go- I ordered the apple pie with ice cream- she did not warm it or put ice cream in the box. :confused3 I guess she thought maybe we wanted it for much later or something.

Cosmic Rays- I decided to go with the double cheeseburger, no cheese, extra bun. The extra bun a trick I learned here. I did this because my 9 year old really wanted another burger, not the kid meal. Then I just ordered the corn dog nuggets for my daughter to eat. (and other DS got the corn dogs too). This is what the CM told me- 'you can order whatever you want off the menu for you son- you don't have to get him a kid's meal, he can have his own burger if you like.' I said, "Really? Well, I keep my order the way it is this time, since my 2 year old would like the corn dog nuggets, but I will remember that, thank you.' I think my DH also got a burger, and my parents got the rotisserie chicken. I like the fixings bar here a lot. This is one of our favorite counter service restaurants. :thumbsup2 The kids just get 4 mini-corn dogs with their meal, which really wasn't quite enough- they liked the grapes though, and ate a few carrots. They got sick of the sugar free jello on day 2.

Pizza Planet- this is a GREAT deal if you have kids in your party. My boys each got the pepperoni meal deal, I got the veggie meal deal, each a drink and a rice krispy mickey for dessert. The pizza here is much better than I remembered- quite tasty actually! We all enjoyed it.

Teppanyaki- We are huge Benihana fans, so we knew we would enjoy this. DH and I ate here many years ago on our honeymoon. We got a sample appetizer of the seaweed salad- different! For our 'real' appetizers' we had the salad with ginger dressing, I got the shrimp/chicken combo, the kids got the chicken with fresh veggies, and DH got the filet. All very tasty. My only minor complaints is I wished the kid's combo came with noodles and that we could have ordered fried rice- our favorite thing at Benihana. But the service was good, and the food was very tasty. The chef was cordial and entertaining as well. I let Molly have my ice cream as I had my tastebuds set on a pastry from the France bakery.

France bakery- long lines here! But well worth the wait- I got a lemon tart and it was heavenly. FYI- you cannot use the snack credits here on food; the CM said only drinks.

Thanks for your post. It's always nice to hear from somebody that has visited a restaurant lately.

Oops- can a mod move this over to the review boards? I posted in the wrong spot! Thanks!

thanks for the reviews.....I would really like to try Teppanyaki sometime. I do enjoy the cs at Cosmic Rays as does my hubby. His favorite is a burger with the fix in bar.....he loves those sauteed mushrooms and onions.....
Thanks again

Thanks for your reviews. Our last time at WCC wasn't that great either but our problem wasn't food just the waiter. Was there anyting for picky eaters at Teppayanki ? My older DS would love this but little DS barely eats more than hamdurgers and chicken fingers when we are in Disney. Will you post more later? You are off to a good start.

Oops- I just saw your other reviews further down the page!!!

For picky eaters at Teppanyaki, well, kid's choices are pretty much either teriyaki chicken or shrimp. Our kids eat quite a lot of teriyaki chicken at home, or when we go out to eat at Japanese/asian restaurants, so they eat it. 2 of my 3 kids also REALLY like rice, so that's not a problem either. They didn't touch the veggies though, which are sauteed mushrooms, onions and zucchini. My pickiest eater (my oldest) at a lot of my noodles that came with my entree, and the chicken.

So basically, if you know your child will eat grilled chicken breast with some asian flavorings, he will be OK here. but they do not offer burgers, hotdogs or chicken strips. :)

great reviews - we've had the pizza at pizza planet and it's pretty good - and DH loves the rotisserie chicken meal at cosmic rays (nice change from burgers)

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for sharing.

Loved your reviews! And, you're right about Whispering Canyon. Your server can really determine the kind of experience you have. We went there with a huge group in December -- so big, in fact, that we had two big, round tables, side by side. We had such a good time at our table, because our server really got into her role. The folks at the other table -- right next to us -- had just a "so so" time.

We asked for red crayon, and red crayons came from all over the room. My grandson, at the other table, asked for a red crayon, and their waitress went to the back and got him . . . one red crayon. My son-in-law, at my table, asked for a drink refill and got the HUGE Mason jar. Next door, refills were nothing special.

It really is a shame that they don't put more emphasis -- here and at 50s Prime Time -- on the servers having the right personality. It makes all the difference in the world.

Pat

204 days and counting . . . again!

Great reviews!
I'm so sorry WCC was a bad experience. We have recommended it to all our rowdy friends and families. We ate there in Feb. and everyone had a blast!:lmao:
My DH and I have often had this discussion about crucial restaurant service is. He believes it often comes down to a dysfunctional kitchen and some "Russian Roulette" theory. I believe it is the wait staff. You can go to the same full service restaurant four different times, order the exact same food and have it come out in differently - in different time lengths at different temps with different ingredients especially if you are sensitive to spicy food!:scared:
I couldn't agree more with Inky Dinky Doo about the training of the waitstaff. Our waitress at WCC was great! She was entertaining and fast. (She was kind of grumpy but we knew it was her schtick, which just made us laugh even more.:rotfl: ) Our waitress at 50's Prime Time was good, but the waitress across the room was hilarious, she had that whole "Mom" thing down.:rotfl2:
I agree with you on Cosmic Rays and the fixin's.:thumbsup2 good stuff!

Thanks for the info:thumbsup2. We ate at Pizza Planet when we last visited and it was good, simple pizza. I'm glad to here that it continues to be the same.

Great reviews, Robin! I can't wait to get back to WDW!

We are also Benihana fried rice fans - isn't it the greatest. My problem w/the DW restaurant is the fact they don't have it - I am with you and agree 100%. I loved reading what your kids ordered as I am traveling w/my 4 kids - it's always nice to get good meal ideas for the kids. I enjoyed your reviews very much!

I am going to Pop in July and we are on the dining plan....but I don't know now if it is worth it for us. I have a 10yr old and a 7yr old both pretty good eaters but I hate that I am paying $38.99 for 10yr old...anyway I have seen pics of some of the food orders and they dont look very big portions, please someone convince me that it is a good deal!! Last 2 yrs we just ate at POP food court and Counter food meals that was good for us but my hubby likes all the good foods but I refuse to pay for them just going to the restaurant. Sorry enough babbling!:confused3
