Dining Review May 17-23, 2016 Food is a 4 letter word

Just dh and I, sorry no pictures.

May 17 - Lunch Our original plan was to go to Les Halles for something quick. But it was so crowded and no where to sit so we went to Tangierine Cafe instead
Dh had the Falafel Wrap Platter
Me - Chicken Shawarma Platter and we shared a piece of baklava.
We always like this place and the food is fresh. We ate outside and it was bearable with a breeze.

Dinner - Trattoria al Forno on the Boardwalk.
We got here during a huge rain storm. Everyone was soaked. There were 20 people inside waiting for their tables and one therapy dog too. I felt a little claustrophobic so we just stayed outside. I use a wheelchair more like a walker and always say I am not bringing it inside in most cases we just park it somewhere near the strollers.
The wheelchair was even soaking wet and the manger offered us a towel to wipe it down too. Then dh asked where the bathroom was. The cm replied that the bathroom there is only for cast members and he would have to be escorted to (sorry dont remember where). So dh ended up going down to the espn club and using the bathroom there. What the heck is up with that??? Disney cant even have a bathroom in a place for its customers. gheesh.
Onto the food

Dh had the seasonal soup of the day - red pepper. He said he liked it.
Then he had the Caprese salad. I liked the presentation and he enjoyed it
For his main course he had the short rib bolognese. He described t as bbq meets italian. I had a small bite and it was different.

I had the mixed greens salad which was good.
Eggplant rollatini - which was very good

For dessert we shared The vanilla pana cotta and the pizelle. The pizelle dish was 3 very small oizelles and inside was a delicious pistachio cream in half and the other half was the chocolate cream.

We took our time eating as it was storming like crazy out. Our server was Oscar I think and he was very attentive. Upon leaving we discovered a jam packed waiting area. I think people were just trying to walk up to the closest place. I heard the cm said the wait would be over 1 hour. The boat was closed and we got drenched walking back to the Swan. Glad we had a good meal!

May 18 - Tusker House lunch. We didnt go here for the characters, just the food for dh since he enjoys different flavors. We were seated in the room off to the side of the buffet. I have never been in this room before The table behind us was up against the wall and their one child was crawling on the floor and kicked my chair a few times. It was something I ignored but the tables are really too close in this room. The character action was good for the kids that we saw.

I like the hot dog nuggets and mac and cheese here. I know the salads were really fresh and the desserts were good too. My favorite was the one that was like a magic cookie bar.

Dh said he liked everything he ate.

Dinner - we were so stuffed from lunch that we just decided to get something from Les Halles. Dh had ham and cheese on a croissant and I had ham and cheese on a baguette. He got 4 desserts. I only asked for a fruit tart. He got a napoleon for himself, some chocolate dessert that was like a huge mound and another one which I didnt eat. The food was fresh and good. We actually took it to our room to eat after Illuminations. they gave dh a big bag to go.

May 19 - Garden Grove at the Swan Breakfast Buffet
This is our favorite breakfast buffet without characters. They have a chef that makes huge made to order omelets. I got ham and cheese, a croissant, fresh blueberries and other fruit, raspberry danish. Bacon regular and crispy, and sausage. I only had 1 piece of the regular bacon.

Dh had a denver omelet and oatmeal as well as lots of other things. They used to have mickey waffles but they are not on the buffet now. I dont know if you have to request them but I did see a server bringing them to a table near us.

We have also been here with the characters on the week end and its fun and not so crazy.

We were so full we skipped lunch

Dinner - Cape May Buffet
We go here because dh loves crab legs, I dont like them. He had the new england clam chowder.
I had the salad with cranberries in it. I also tried the ambrosia salad but didnt care for it.
Due to my digestive issues I have to watch what I eat. I had chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables and a roll.
It was thursday and on the buffet they had ribs!!! I had one and dh had 2 I think. they were pretty good. Also I think they had friend clams.
For dessert my favorite is always the flan. They do have way to many mini chocolate cupcakes with various icings. One being peanut butter which I would not enjoy at all.
When we came out the lobby was mobbed!!! So its still a very popular place.

May 20 - Starring Rolls at DHS
This is my favorite counter service at the studios. We got there around 11:15 because I know the seating is limited. I had the turkey sand and dh had a pastrami sand. Both were fresh and good. For dessert I had a fruit tart which was so good and dh had a napoleon which he commented that it was twice as big as Les Halles and twice as good go figure. But that napoleocesearn was huge!

Dinner - Coral Reef
We were seated on the top row. The view was not all that great but they did have 7 divers in the tank at once waving to everyone. That was fun! I have never seen that before.
Dh had the heirloom tomato salad, mahi mahi and chocolate wave.
I had the caesar salad. This salad really looked unappetizing and had yellow lettuce in it. I ate it because I was hungry but really didnt enjoy it at all. I had the seafood scampi which was really good. I got it based on another review here on the dis and the poster also posted a picture. For dessert I got the coconut mango chiffon cake which I really didnt like. I gave it to dh and he enjoyed it.

I asked dh what he thought of the meal and we both agreed that it would be a while before we would come back again.

May 21 - Be Our Guest lunch. I actually got this less than a month before we came since we never know what dh work schedule will be we sometimes plan a trip about a month or less out. This time we did the pre order of food since we didnt want to wait in such a long line like last time.

This was around 12 noon and I posted in a few other threads about people planning a trip etc. Well I counted at least 20 people who just walked up and asked about eating lunch and they were all turned away. One couple went over to read the menu and then went over. One family brought their little ones up to see. I honestly would never bring my kids up as I just feel that would disappoint them even more. I would have one person in the group go and see. I did see the sadness on the 2 little girls faces. Why do people do this? Oh well.

Dh - roast beef sand and eclair. He enjoyed both.
Me - potato leek soup. I know its almost 90 degrees out and I am having soup for lunch, crazy right but I love the soup here. I had the turkey sand. for lunch. I wish it was served cold in the summer instead of hot. I had my favorite cupcake - the strawberry cream cheese cupcake.

Dinner
Yachtsman Steakhouse
This was for our anniv. We have eaten here before. The service is outstanding.
Dh and I both had the lobster bisque. So good as usual.
dh - had the ribeye. I dont know why he always gets this. Its fatty and a lot of meat wasted and he got sauteed onion and the potato gratin.
I had the New York Strip and subbed in mashed potatoes. Dh ate about half my steak.
Dessert - Dh had the sorbet trio. I think the flavors were apple,grape and I cant remember. the apple tasted like it had ginger in it, I am not sure.
I had the creme brule which was great as always.
This meal was so, so expensive. I think we will maybe do something else next time.

May 22
Dh wanted a turkey leg so we went to Rosies at DHS. I told him I wanted a turkey sand. (from Starring Rolls). Well he says he cant find the turkey leg. He brings me back a chicken ceasar salad and he gets a pepperoni pizza and side salad. What??? Where is the turkey sand??? Where is the turkey leg??? I told him I wanted a strawberry shortcake like I see other people having. I see another table having a turkey leg. They opoint him where to get one. He then comes back with a turkey leg and a kids turkey sand. fr me, wht??? I hae a sald. Umm, this is a big lack of communication and way to much food that I told dh to eat. I was not happy about this at all.

Chefs de France
We both like it here and dh asked to eat here
Dh - lobster bisque, short ribs and sorbet trio. He enjoyed everything
I had the salad, it was o.k. I gave half of it to dh. I had the chicken which was very good. It was cooked well, not overdone and for dessert I tried the meringue basket. The fresh fruit was good and the basket was interesting. It was hard to cut however.

May 23
Captains Grille breakfast
Since we were checking out we thought this would be a good option.
Our sever was way too chit chatty and he was generally annoying. This was not just me. I saw at the next table the guy kept trying to be on his cellphone when he saw our server coming our way.
I was kind of disappointed in the buffet. They did have someone making omelets at one time, but no more. They did have mickey waffles and the blueberries were not fresh. They were thawed from frozen, Not good at all. The mini blueberry muffin was good.
If I was staying here again (which I doubt for a long time anyway due to the outrageous prices even with an ap discount) I would honestly rather walk back to the Swan for the buffet breakfast there, so much better for sure.

Snacks - We actually didnt eat anything from the Flower and Garden Kiosks but the Smokehouse place smelled really good
We had the usual Kaki Gori in Japan. So refreshing on a hot day. I like rainbow and dh likes tangerine.
MK popcorn - a little salty but oh so good
Sunset Sweets - I had the toffee - yum. Dh had a candy apple

Beaches and Cream takeout - we just had cones, but I asked them to put it in a cup for me so I wouldnt spill it. I had mint chocolate chip and butter pecan with a waffle cone and dh had a sugar cone with butter pecan. It was fresh and good. A big portion.

We didnt buy a TIW card, but if I calculated it I think we might have come out even or a little ahead. We might get one again in Dec. if we go back, we shall see.

May 23
