Cast of characters: me 44, obsessive planner, DH 47, leaves all the planning to me, likes to eat but usually doesn't try new things, DS 14, big eater but very picky, rarely tries new foods, DD 9, big eater, will at least try something new.
Most of our breakfasts were eaten in our room. Lunch was mostly counter service, and dinners were all buffets or all you can eat meals.
Counter Service: First stop after we got to our room at the Swan and unpacked was lunch at Tubbi's in the Dolphin. This is a cafeteria like place with typical cafeteria foods. I had a Chef's Salad, DH and DD had hamburgers and fries, and DD had a hot dog. Nothing special but we were in a rush to hit the parks and it fit the bill.
Day 2 lunch was at Disney MGM Studios at the ABC Comissary. The men had their hamburgers again and DD had chicken nuggets. I had the tabouleh wrap. Once again, nothing to rave about but we were hungry and it left us satisfied. I don't find any of the food options, esp. for counter service, too appealing in this park. SInce it is basically a one day park for us we deal with it.
Day 3 we went to EPCOT and had lunch at Tangierine Cafe in Morocco. I wasn't sure how well this would go over with the fussy eaters, but everyone enjoyed their lunches and we almost returned a second time.
DH had the Tabouleh wrap and is still taliking about it almost a week after we have returned. DS had the meatball platter and loved it so much that he said he would consider having dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh. I had the vegetarian platter which was as good as any I have had in Middle Eastern restaurants in New York. DD was rather unadventurous and had the kid's pizza, which she proclaimed delicious.
Day 4 and we were off to Animal Kingdom. Given the heat and humidity of late August there was no way I would consider eating anywhere but Tusker House for the air conditioning. In cooler weather I may have opted to try Flame Tree Barbeque and the ribs that everyone says are so great. But Tusker House provided both relief from the heat and a good meal. I had the vegetable wrap while the rest of the family feasted on the fried chicken sandwiches. These were quite huge even for my 14 year old power eater. His only complaint is that there was nothing on the menu that he liked other than the chicken sandwich and he has been avoiding fried foods lately in a, thus far, sucessful weight loss attempt. Not that there weren't helthy options available, such as the salad with grilled chicken that I had or a vegetable sandwich, just that there was nothing that he would care to eat.
Day 5 and we finally made it to Magic Kingdom. We ate lunch at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe after finding our way to it in the pouring rain. The fixin's bar was a big hit with me and my husband. The kids wouldn't eat any of it though. I particularly loved the mushrooms and onions. I could eat those all day. DH and I had vegetable wraps while the kids had cheeseburgers, fries and chicken soup. Actually, DS had 2 orders of chicken soup as DD didn't really care for it. This is her typical soup eating behavior though, take one spoonful of a soup that she has begged for and then declare she doesn't like it. DS loves just about any kind of soup and has no problem finishing his sister's. In fact, I think he probably expects to get her soup by now.
Day 6 was a table service meal which will be covered in part II.
Day 7 and it was back to Magic Kingdom and Cosmic Ray's. Everyone ordered the same things again except I switched to a veggie burger and while DD skipped her soup, DS ordered 2 soups to begin with.
That's it for Counter service meals. Next part coming soon will be table service/buffets.
