We just got back last night from WDW. We had the free dining plan and it was great. The only problem we had using it was at San Angel Inn. I also have the DDE card and had been using it without a problem to get alcoholic beverages (as well as nonalcoholic beverages when we decided to share a meal). At the San Angel Inn I explained to the waiter that my D-I-L and I wanted to split our meal and then I wanted to order two margaritas and an order of queso fundido on a seperate check using my DDE card. He almost went into a panic telling me I couldn't do that. When I told him we had been doing it for several days, he left and came back with a manager who said it was not possible to use two different discounts. I said fine, then my D-I-L and son would both order using their dining credits while I wanted just an order of the fundido and a margarita using my DDE card. The manager again said that wasn't possible and that a table could not use two different plans. When I asked her what if I had simply met someone I knew outside and we decided to eat together, but only one of us was on the dining plan what would they do. She got flustered for a moment and then just repeated that everyone at a table had to use the same plan. She did say I could order the fundido and margarita, paying full price, but I just couldn't use my DDE card to do so.
We ate at Le Cellier that night. My D-I-L and I split a meal and then ordered an extra cheese soup and drinks on the side using my DDE card with no problem. When I mentioned to the waiter the problem we had had at San Angel Inn at lunch, he said he didn't understand why, as alot of people on the dining plan also had the DDE card and were using it for alcoholic drinks since they're not included on the dining plan.
