We are going to disney in October and going with friends on our reservation, they don't want to do the dining plan because they won't be around several days. Can we get the dining plan and they not get it?

Yup! The waitstaff will ask you if you are on the dining plan when you are seated (and most of the time when you check in at the restaurant). You just let them know then, and they'll give you separate checks. Make sure to check if your tip is included (I believe it is a party if 6 or more). There is still an additional line to tip, even if it is included.

You can make all your ADRs as one party. Hope that helps!!

If you are in the same room, you all have to buy it. Separate rooms, you can each make your own choice.

Cool so we won't have any trouble getting them seperate keys and them using our points?

To clarify they wouldn't by accident use our dining points if they wanted to charge the room key for food somewhere

If you are all in the same room, you all have to be on the dining plan if you want it and it will be on all keys. If they are in a separate room, they will have their own keys with no dining plan.

Ugh that stinks. They are going to be out of town part of the trip. Nothing like other people inconveniencing us staying on our points

Maybe I can leave them off the reservation.

Then they won't have KTTW cards. So no charging. No EMH ability. They won't be able to use Magical Express. No using the pool if you are somewhere that requires the room key. Not to mention that it's not right. I would just forego the dining plan to accommodate your guests.

This is correct when talking about dining with others that might not have a dining plan when you do. But it is not the answer to the question about whether people in the same room can have different dining plans. They cannot.

That would be best. Politely explain that Disney won't allow them to stay with you without having the dining plan unless they have a separate reservation. Then it is up to them to make a decision and not you to give up dining.

Leave them off and not allow them to stay would work. Just leaving them off trying to avoid paying for the DDP as structured likely won't and would certainly be dishonest. Get them a separate studio for the time they'll be there.

What I would do... I would tell them that you would appreciate them getting the dining plan, as that is how you structured your vacation, and if they are joining you at no extra room cost this would be a small up-charge to them. Then I would enjoy their meal credits for them if they felt unable to use them as they would be away for a few days. But whatever happens enjoy and have fun, food is not worth a fight.:rotfl2:

Why don't you use your membership to buy a TIW card and use that to save instead of the dining plan. That way no issue.

Thanks for clarifying... I was assuming they were in different rooms if thinking about 2 different dining options. ;)

Ha... That is exactly what I was thinking. LOL I'm like, these people are staying on her points, the least they could do is maybe pay a little for the dining plan, since they'll be using it for part of the time, as a thanks for staying for free.

I like that idea. But also agree about TIW card. If you think you'll spend more than $500 in a year's timeframe, it definitely is a better option, IMO.

Reimburse them for the days they will not be using the dining plan and use the extra credits to do some signature dining for yourselves when they are not there and you'll be able to do 2 counter services those days, breakfast and lunch!

I think the consensus is that we won't be doing DDP. There is always next year. . . It shouldn't be that bad since we are there for food and wine festival. I think we will just spend our money on a signature experience like part for the senses and the like.
