Dining Plan question

We are going with anywhere from 5-9 people in our group when we go to Disney. For convenience sake, we will likely just use the Dining plan, unless I price it out, and the difference is enough to warrant the hassle of divvying up what each person owes. We are planning on going from Sep 9- Sep 15 of 2012. If Disney offers the free dining plan, and we are staying in a value resort, can we upgrade to the regular Dining plan (paying the difference)? My boys are fairly solid eaters, and the older is always open to trying a new food (and won't eat chicken nuggets and grilled cheese for every meal), so I don't want to get stuck with quick service.

Yes, you can upgrade at a cost. However, I found that during free dining, the cost difference in upgrading dining while staying at value vs. just staying at a moderate resort was small enough that it makes more sense to just stay at a mod. HTH!

Thank you! That does help!
(I just looked into it, and if Disney does offer the dining plan for free, it actually will work out MUCH better, so thank you very much for the suggestion!)

Totally agree. We upgraded one time from value free quick service to regular dining. The next year went up to POFQ with a group of 10. Worked out great because it was such a small resort, that it was easy to keep everyone together, and it was about the same price as upgrading at value.
