Dining Plan Mechanics

We are DVC members and never do the dining plan. We do not see the value in it and being members, we usually use our DVC or in the past TiW discounts.

Due to some issues with a previous trip, we were given the QS dining plan at no charge for our entire stay.

Do I understand correctly that the way it works is your order your entree and drink (or snack if that is the case) and they scan your MB at the register, it removes the correct number of credits and you just move on?

It sounds so easy, too easy, so I want to be sure I know how that works.

Also, DVC Member Services called and told me it is added to my reservation, but I cannot see it in MDE. Is that normal for DVC reservations?

Yes it's that simple. You will have a pool of credits based upon the number of nights on your reservation and the number of people on your reservation. They will be separated by QS meal credits and Snack credits. You can you use them in any order you like and the credits will be deducted from your total when you scan your magic band. All you need to do is let your cashier know you are using Dining Plan credits to pay. Your credits will be good from check in until midnight on your check out day.

I'm not sure about the DVC/MDE part of your question as I've never stayed DVC.

All discussions of cost/value aside, the various dining plans are really dirt simple to actually USE in terms of payment. And you'll get a receipt showing you the prices of what was covered as $0.00 and a note at the bottom indicating how many credits of that type still remain, so it's even easy to keep track of and to verify you aren't being charged cash for something you thought you were paying credits with.
