Dining Plan for under 3?

I had seen a post on the restaurant board about being able to add the dining plan on kids under 3 if you're DVC members. Is this true?

I hadn't thought about not needing tickets to book the dining plan so it does make sense. But our ressies are already made with the kids ages...one of which will be two. Could I call and make the dining plan for two adults and two kids? Or will member services not allow that?

You don't need the DP for kids under 3. They are considered free and usually eat from you plate, don't they?

I have the same concern you do. I think my DD who will be 2 when we go will eat more than her fair share off of our plates. She has a very healthy appetite and I would love to add the dining plan for her.

We are not DVC member's but I don't see how something like this would be a "member perk." I hope someone can give us a solid answer.

From the dining plan brochure:
The Disney Dining Plan is unavailable for Guests under the age of
3, but they may share from an adult plate at no charge, or a meal
may be purchased from the menu. The price of the meal will be
added to your bill. Guests ages 3-9 must order from a children’s
menu where available.

My son will be 15 months when we go in June but also has a healthy appetite. I figured out the cost of buying him a snack everyday along with a CS meal and the two TS meals we are doing that are NOT buffets. It was cheaper by about $20 to get him the kids DDP. I called DVC and asked what can be done...she said she would change his age on our reservation so he would be able to get the DDP. Easy as pie! :thumbsup2

Thank you! I think we'll be doing this!

I am not a DVC member and am worried that if they change my daughters age for the DDP they will also change her age for park tickets...

Anyone have experience with this and not being a DVC member?

If you are booked with a CRO package, you would have to then buy a ticket for her.

Also see this thread regarding DDP for children under 3 when staying on DVC points reservation -- in particular note the last post by Moderator CarolAnn; so although it isn't required when staying on DVC points to purchase a park ticket in order to do DDP that does not apply to a child under age 3 - if you wish to add a child under 3 in order to do so, that child under 3 must have a ticket purchased for them.

Our experience last December was that our 2 yo ate free @ every restaurant we visited (Cindy's table, Askerhaus and GF buffet).

Any child under the age of three can eat off any buffet or family style service for free. However, if you order the child something from the menu or off the menu, you will have to pay for it.

Hi all
I was just able to purchase the DP for my DD under 3. I was originally told that I couldnt. I explained that she did eat alot and that I would be purchasing snacks and CS meals as well as some TS meals for her. After a while on hold I was told that an exception would be made. I have AP's for the family so they would be separate from the DP credits. It will not be necessary for me to purchase a park ticket for her. For those that are not DVC members you would probably need to purchase a park ticket. At that point it probably wouldnt be worth it to add the plan...

Our 2 yo. also ate free at all the restaurants we when to last year.
We were on the DxDP. We order her Kid's meals at TS restaurants that weren't Buffets.
We had planned on paying for them but were NEVER charged...:confused3
We didn't eat at any signature dining places.
The Plaza, WWC, 50's Prime Time, TTS, Tutto It., all gave her free meals.
Of course, CS meals would need to be bought but we were on the DXDP and mostly did TS.

Also, keep in mind what changing your child's age can do to the occupancy rules...if you change it to get the DDP for them, they would now count toward the overall occupancy, and not as "+ a child under 3 in a crib".

You also may need to buy them a park ticket, as stated in other posts.
