Dining Plan for longer stay

Our October trip was originally going to be 6 nights at SSR, we've had to change some summer plans so now we can do 9 nights in October instead.
However we do not want to do the Dining Plan for that many nights -too much food for the 2 of us. We'd like to do it for 6 nights but I know it has to be for the length of stay. Could I divide our stay into 3nights/6nights, would they make us move? I know we'd have to check in/out.

Last summer we did 5 nights on points and 2 on cash and they just linked them together so we did not have to move.

Any ideas around this dilemma would be appreciated. Thanks!

What I have been told is that as long as you have the reservations "linked" (which prevents the moving), you have to get the DDP for the entire stay.

I am sure that you can do it that way as long as you don't link your stays--but then that could involve moving, which is what you are trying to avoid.

Good luck!

You'd have to cancel part of your current reservations then make a new one for the additional days. You'd have to check out then back in again and might have to move. You'd also have to make 90+6 and separate 90+3 dining reservations instead of 90+9. Likely best to skip the DDP than take the risks and hassles involved.

I agree with everyone. Also, if you have a guest staying for part of the trip, that guest has to buy the DDP for the whole stay. For example, last year I stayed at BCV for 8 days. DH visited me for 4 days. There was no way for him to get the dining plan for those 4 days. We would have both needed to take the DDP for the entire 8 days of my stay, even though he was only there for part of the time. An example of the inflexibility of the DDP.
However, if you are moving rooms or moving resorts, you can get the DDP for only one "stay". In October, I'm staying 3 days at AKV, then transferring to BCV for more time. I'm able to get the DDP for just the AKV portion because they're viewed as 2 separate reservations. However, I had to call MS twice to book the 2 resort reservations.

For 9 nights, why not drop the DDP completely and buy a DVC discounted Annual Pass and the TIW card? That way you don't pay for meals you may not use, and assuming you can go to WDW again within 12 months, you'll be $$ ahead.

I agree with Chuck, if this is an option for you.

Myself, DH, DD and my mom visited for 9 days in early May. We did far better using the TiW card than DDP.

I totally agree! We found we saved several hundred dollars when it was just the two of us. We used the TIW card and dined at signatures and all over the world, and it saved us $200 over the cost of what our DDP would have been for the same time period.

Duh, I never thought of that! Starting a new thread on it. Thanks!

Thanks for all the good replies. We already have APs so are now considering the TIW card, as we will be back again in March and October 2010. We'd rather stay put at SSR so this may be a great option for us!

Just wait and get your TIW card when you go in Oct so hopefully you can get the Oct trips on one card 2 years for 2 years.
