I started looking at all the restaurant menus and they kept saying that a Child was 3-11 and have to order from the childrens menu.

The MYM Dining Plan indicates that a child is 3-9 (its all over their advertisement). My dd is 10 and we were charged the adult rate and I was a little perplexed that we charged at the adult rate if she can't order from the adult menu.

I called WDW and the CM was curious too (she was extremely helpful) and contacted Guest services and they told her that the dining plan is special and our 10yrs dd can in fact order from the adult menu which makes her very happy!

She also gave me another tip - you can dial *88 from any pay phone in Disney to make PS - so if you don't have one and you see a line-up go to the nearest pay phone and you might be able to jump the que! :)

thanks for the tip and phone number. We also have an 11 year old and was charge adult prices. I assumed he would be ordering off the adult menu.
Going 4/14, can't wait!

Kids under age 10 using the MYW Dining plan are the only ones who MUST order from the childrens' menu (if one is available) at table service restaurants. If not using MYW Dining, any person af any age can order any item they want, as long as they pay the price for said item. :goodvibes

Example: A sixteen year old girl who is a picky light eater can order off the childrens' menu at non-buffet restaurants. Or, a boy of eight who likes to have more exotic fare than kids' menu items can order anything off the adult menu at any Disney restaurant.

Not to thread hijack, but does this apply to counter service meals too? If an adult wanted to order off of the children's menu, would that be a problem?

my husband and i were just talking about this today

our dd is 16 and is a very light and picky eater - so we were wondering if we are paying the adult fee for the dining package for her if we are actually losing money on her part of the plan

does she have to be included as an adult? or would we be able to pay for her as a child on the plan

i plan on calling tomorrow in the AM to see if this can be done

Like admission tickets... I'm fairly certain the age is a hard rule, picky eater or not. I am paying adult price for my 10 year old, even though most buffets like Ohana classify kids as 11 and under. I might just pay her meal preice there and save the table service credit for a pricier restaurant. Good luck trying, though!

thanks - i have a feeling your probably right

hopefully my husband and son will be hungry enough to finish your plate after she gets done picking!!!

Debdot-
Hi there! Sorry to say, your DD will be charged $35 per day for the dining plan. It's a hard-and-fast rule. Pricing is by age. Now, that being said, she could still order from the kids' menu at restaurants if she really wants to- but that would not be a good value for you. Why not pay out of pocket for her meals (if she decides not to eat adult entrees) and save the Table Service credits? You could get an extra meal out of it, or you could go to a Signature restaurant for a meal instead.

Always on the lookout to help you use those meal credits wisely! :teeth:

I have booked a fantasmic dinner package at hollywood and vine and my son will be 10 when we go. Will he be charged as an adult or a child. We have booked and paid for chef Mickey and paid a child price as was told a child was up to 11.

Not to make this anymore complicated, but we inquired about the MYW plan for our 10 year old as well.

We were told (by an agent when making hotel reservations) that the buffets charge after 12, not 10.

Of course counter service is counter service.

I have a 10 yr old son and an 11 yr old son. We have the dining package for our upcoming trip. So, if I understand this correctly, they are the correct age to order from the child's menu if they wanted to, right? So, they could each order from the child's menu, we could pay for it out of pocket, and then save the MYW dining credits for an extra meal?

Well that's great news! My daughter is 13, and I think she may occasionally prefer to order at least one item from the children's menu. We may not always get our money's worth doing that, but I know she'll always be thrilled to be able to order any dessert she wants!

A lot of people get hung up with that one kid who 'won't be worth it' on the plan. The way to look at it is to figure out what your family *as a whole* will spend on the plan and what you plan to eat. If your overall food value is more than the plan cost, it's worth it, even if one kid eats nothing but $3.99 kids meals! :flower:

The CM at WDW told us that on the MYM dining plan that they (10yrs) CAN order from the Adult menu as it special offer for which you are being charged the adult rate. All the material clearly indicates that at the participating restaurants that 3-9 is the requirement not 10.

Correct. Notice I said UNDER 10, not 10 and under.
