I did a quick search and didn't really find what I am looking for.

Is the 48 hours from the start of the day you check in? or is it 48 hours from the check in time?

for example... we are checking in on Sunday and I would like to add the dining plan on friday morning. Is that enough time... or would it have to be thursday?

I'm planning on using a bonus to pay for the dining so we don't charge it and I am just wondering if this will work out.

Thanks!

It's 48 hours prior to your arrival check-in date. From the member website:
Take advantage of Disney Dining Plan options for an easy and affordable way to enjoy meals and snacks at over 100 select restaurants throughout Walt Disney World® Resort. Choose from a variety of dining experiences for the length of your stay at Walt Disney World Disney Vacation Club Resorts or Walt Disney World Disney Collection hotels. Simply add a Disney Dining Plan selection to your reservation at least 48 hours prior to your arrival check-in date. Payment in full is due at the time of adding the Disney Dining Plan to your reservation. Please contact Member Services for assistance...

The wording is just so odd... why would they mixes hours and dates. I mean I can't call at 11:59PM on Thursday because they aren't open.

I'm still not 100% sure that we won't be able to add it on the Friday. Maybe I'll email them since I can't call right now.

Can't you just charge it now and then use the money you get Friday to apply to the credit card?

I really prefer not to use the credit card if I don't have to. We have a credit card with a high limit on it but don't use it ~ I just keep it for emergencies.

Most credit cards will not apply interest if you pay off the balance in full, so if that is the reason you are hesitant, I wouldn't be.

My parents got screwed because they waited to add the DP. They added it and when they arrived it wasn't there. I would add as soon as possible. Charge it to the card and make an online payment to the credit card immediatly. No fees.

Oh I know... I just don't like to use it at all. Even my little every day one with a $400 limit rarely gets used. I just prefer to pay for everything in cash. I'd probably just move some money around if I needed to.

It just seemed more like I was using the bonus money to pay the dining if I actually USED the bonus money to pay the dining.

Weird I know. I also much preferred when we could pay at check-in.

MAYBE TIW IS the better way to go for us now. Hmmmm I keep going back and forth on this...

This happened to us when we booked last minute last year in July. They just added it at the desk since we had the name of the member services rep we had talked to.

It happened one other time too when we rented points in Dec 2009. It was no big deal really ~ they just added it. :confused3 I'm not sure why your parents didn't just pay at the time. Was it before or after they started requiring prepay?

This is our second trip since the prepay requirement and we had no problems last time... though I believe we added a week or so before.

Just called member services and they state it can be added any time during business hours on the Friday.

Yeah! Don't have to think about that!

Thanks everyone!

This happened to us too, last June. Luckily at that time the CM at BWV check-in was able to add it for us and we were able to pay for it then.
IMHO not sure that all of the new rules are to our benefit.
